One of Willows' least favorite parts of experiences, though it gave her great sorrow, she told herself to think of it more as a; see you soon until you come again. "Do you have in mind anyone or anything you'd like to say goodbye to?" Shark knelt down, so he was eye level with Willow. She bobbed her head up and down. "Well then- off you go!" Shark rubbed the back of his head. But Willow didn't need to go anywhere, he looked deeply into sharks eyes, and though she could be mistaken, noticed a tiny tear trickle down Shark's cheek. Throwing her arms around him, she burst into tears herself. Startled Shark took a moment to comprehend he was being hugged. It was a nice feeling, a feeling he hadn't had for some time. "I'll miss ya kid..." He smiled "I'll really miss ya..." He tightened his grasp, suffocating her, but she didn't care, Shark had become like a second father to her, she never wanted this moment to end. "I'll miss you too," She sobbed. Finally letting go of one another, Willow whipped away her last teardrop. "Promise you'll come back to Kalokairi again!" Shark ordered. Willow laughed, Shark was getting back to his normal self. "Make sure you don't stuff that boat up again!"

"I ᴛʜɪɴᴋ ɪᴛ ᴍɪɢʜᴛ ʙᴇ ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴛᴏ sᴀʏ ɢᴏᴏᴅʙʏᴇ sᴏᴏɴ..."

Twig's feet dangle down from the dock once more, the ocean water just out of reach of his tiny legs. They've soaked up plenty now, and his tan lines were certainly going to last a long, long time. The sun hovered out over the sea, still descending slowly, for now. He was going to miss the sunsets. They were so fast, but so beautiful. No wonder his mom liked to travel so much, and his dad liked exploring new places. There was so much here, so much more he could've done, and now he was going to have to say goodbye.

Salty tears started to mix with the water below him. He was crying. All this time had been so much fun, and now... He couldn't hold back. All the smiling faces and bright new adventures, all the fun he'd had and puzzles he'd had to solve. The wildlife, the scenery, the candies... all of it was going away.

Alone, shaking now, he let it all out. He thought he was older than this, more mature than this, but he couldn't help it. The tears were welling up in his heart and if he didn't let them out, he was sure he'd explode.

Over his sniffling and sobbing, he didn't hear footsteps.

Shark stood over him now, and eventually, the reflection in the water caught Twig's eye.

"S-sorry," he mumbled, breaths still coming in jagged bursts. "I-I-I--"

"Hey," Shark nodded, "it's not a bad thing to cry." The tough guy's little hint of a smile was enough, and Twig smiled back, through another sob and sniffle.

"I'm going to miss all of them. But I think..." Twig considered, kicking his feet nervously. "I think I'll miss you most. I think we're really a good team," he grinned. He wiped the sniffles from his nose, wishing he could just rinse off in the water but trying to reach now would definitely topple him in.

Shark nodded. "You did good, kid."

Twig's goofy grin and a resurgence of tears made it a little hard to respond, but he knew that was a really good thing. Shark had trusted him right from the start, and even with the other passengers helping out too, he never felt quite so accomplished as when he could bring something and see the affirmation in Shark's eyes.

"Do you think I'll see you again?" Twig asked finally, pulling himself together and to his feet as their shadows stretched back over the dock.

"I didn't fix this ship just to send it back to harbor," Shark huffed. "She should be in fine shape for a long time, with my handiwork."

Twig giggled. "Okay. I'll come visit," he promised. Shark nodded.

The two of them stood side by side as the sun slowly plummeted. First, slowly. And then, as it approached the horizon, the magical moment happened. Twig had watched every night. The instant it touched the horizon, it was like a race to the finish. He could count the seconds from that moment until darkness. It sunk into the sea as the cool breeze of the ocean cleared the tears from his cheeks. This was a really, really wonderful place, wasn't it?
Have a good day y'all.

Is there anyone your kalon wants to say goodbye to?

Someone she wanted to say good-bye to, huh? Sycamore's heart fluttered and skipped a little beat at the idea of finally being free of this island, back in her city with her beloved plants with plenty of internet and things to do that didn't include running errands for this mechanic in front of her. She couldn't help the grin that spread across her face, her feelings betraying her neutral expression. Just to ensure that he wasn't upset and could work his hardest, Sycamore shook Shark's hand and wished him well, hoping the boat would be ready to set sail next time that she saw him - if she saw him again before they took off!

With that in mind, there was something she needed to do before she could happily prance up that gangplank and head on home.

Her steps slow and steady, Sycamore made her way across the sun-warmed sand and over to the edge of the island where the wilderness began to take over and the sand and stone turned into pure greenery. The beautiful splendor you could truly only find in a place like this, untouched by anything but the breeze, the ocean, the sky above.

Leaning down, she gently stroked one of the larger fern's smooth leaves like someone might pet a precious puppy. A single tear rolled down her face as she realized it would be a long time before she saw anything this wonderful around again. The samples she had taken at the beginning of this trip would take a lot of time and care before they sprouted, let alone got this large or impressive if they even managed to make it that far. It truly was something to be envious of.

"I'm sorry I have to go, lovelies. I hope we meet again."

Her voice carried through the peaceful silence of the jungle, only a few birds babbling softly overhead. Maybe she'd have to look into getting some rain forest noises to play inside of her greenhouse. The plants might like to listen.

"I'll take good care of your babies."

Sycamore smiled proudly as she remembered the samples she was going to ferry back home and plant with the utmost love. They'd win competitions, make her acquaintances green with envy as they wondered how she'd obtained such things. She'd do whatever she had to do to keep them healthy and strong.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Syrilli had dropped his phone when what Shark told him began to set in.

The ship was almost finished. It was about time to be back on the boat.
The boat headed home, towards his bed. Towards Lucien and home.

How long had he been away now? It was nearing the month
mark wasn't it? God, Lucien had sent him on this cruise as a "Please stop messing
with my company" timeout of sorts, but he bet even his stony partner wouldn't
have expected it to last so long.

As Syrilli continued to reminisce about his vacation on the island, Shark's words
began to slither through his brain once more.

"Ya prolly should start saying yer' goodbyes. The cruise'll likely be sailing
out in a day's time."

A day, huh.
Bending over to pick up his phone, Syrilli began to mull over the time he had
spent on island.

I guess it'd prolly be wise to get going, then. There were alot of residents he
had interacted with who at least deserved a "see ya".
As Syrilli slowly made his way back down the path from the ship, the reality
of the situation sank in. A goodbye sounded very.... final, didn't it?

Like he wasn't going to ever see these people again.
He really hated to thought of that.

Pausing on the path and glancing upwards at the sky, Syrilli shielded his eyes
from the sun's oppressive rays.

So what if it felt like the time for good-byes ?

Only Syrilli could describe when that actually would be. This wouldn't be the
last he saw of the island, and it wouldn't be the last the islanders saw of him.

Prompt 14: Is there anyone your kalon wants to say goodbye to?
Goodbyes were common for her, living in the wild where death was a frequent occurrence, and she herself had to kill to eat. But the farewells she had to say now felt different, like the words were reluctant to emerge from her throat because it would be the arrow that severed any connection she has to the people here. And it was indeed an arrow that brought death, a death to her friendships: she would likely never see them again, for the chances of another cruise like this was quite low. She had little concept of money - how would she be able to earn enough for another trip here? Plus it was a small island they ran into when the ship broke. Cruises would not want to come here, so a personal boat had to be hired. Even more costly. Even more impossible. So she should say her goodbyes and close this chapter of her life with no regrets. But she couldn't do it. She didn't want to do it. In all her years, she had never had more than a brief conversation with others of her kind, and didn't want any other bonds besides those with the flora and fauna. Yet now having experienced this, she didn't want to let it go.
But she must. And who knows, maybe one day she'll be able to come back. The events in a person's life are strange and unpredictable...

A soft frown passed over Aderyn’s face, realizing.. she’d have to leave soon? She’d made so many friends here, met so many.. unique(to put it nicely) kalons. She was supposed to be good at leaving everything behind- whenever she’d been in one place too long, when her parents were getting closer to finding her. This time was different though, this time.. she’d made friends- perhaps he first she’d had in a very long time. Feeling a tear trickle down her face, Aderyn attempted to wipe it away, sniffling a bit. What was wrong with her? She didn’t normally get so torn up about leaving people!
Aderyn quickly sprinted over to where Shark was working, throwing her arms around him. “Shark- I’m gonna miss you so much you big grump.” He scowled at her for a moment, before returning the hug, his face softening a bit. Finally deciding it was too much, he grunted, “Okay. That’s enough,” heaving her off of him. “I’ll miss you too,” he said with a frown, although Aderyn couldn’t tell if it was just his neutral expression or if he was sad. “You’re one of.. the first friends I’ve had in a while. Thank you,” Aderyn said, tears falling down her face. “I- I’ll miss you so much.. I’ll.. I’ll come visit whenever I can.” She said, through sniffles. Shark nodded, a soft smile on his face, “Id like that very much. And, er, thank you- for all the help.”
“I- I need to go say bye to more people but, but I’ll be back!” Carter was next on her list. Although she’d been the one giving him advice, it had made her realize things, helped her change her persona, be a better kalon. Perhaps.. perhaps she’d even give her parents another chance.
Finally finding Carter, she ran up to him and hugged him, earning herself a look or surprise. “Er.. hello?” He said, but wrapped his arms around her in return, a confused look on his face. “S-sorry! I uh, well.. I have to leave soon.. and.. you were such a good friend. Even though I was giving you advice, you- you taught he so much. You helped me realize a lot, about who I am and what I need to do.” She smiled softly, looking up at him with tears in her eyes. “Aw Aderyn.. I’ll miss you too. You have to come visit, okay? Your advice is the best.” He said with a chuckle, “But.. really, you’re such a kind kalon and you’re so, so good. You helped me realize that I need to get out there, and follow my dream. For that, I am eternally greatful.” With a sniffle, they hugged again, and Aderyn frowned, looking at her feet. “I.. I guess I have to go now.” Tears began to roll down her face, and she held in a cry, her lip wobbling. “Carter nodded sadly, “Yeah.. uh.. you probably don’t want to miss that cruise..”
It took everything in Aderyn to turn away, and she did, trudging back to the shore. She would miss those two forever. Surely, they would never leave her mind.

Was there anyone to say goodbye to? What a question. Of course there was anybody to say goodbye to. There was absolutely everyone to say goodbye to!

No, she thought firmly to herself. No goodbyes. Only see you laters. Because of course she'd be back. How could she not come back to this beautiful place, full of wonderful memories and lovely people?

The beach cleaners, Captain and Egg. The casino brothers, Spider and Rook. Mako, who tried to teach her to surf. Aukai, who helped her learn to snorkel. Her whale watching buddy, Monty, with his thick glasses and passion for books. Timothy, the gorgeous kit down by the tide pools. She wouldn't forget that smile in a hurry. How much would he have grown, she wondered, when she saw him next? And Carter, dear Carter...how she loved him as a friend. She couldn't wait to see his friendly face when she returned. Or perhaps he could begin his adventures, and come and visit her. Now that would be nice.

She spent the day visiting each of her newfound friends, spending time with them and sharing fond moments. Moving around between them all was good; it kept her moving, kept her focus away from the fact that she might not see them for awhile. Some of them kept a strong composure, while some returned her emotional words and tight hugs.

And to think, she wouldn't have met any of them if it hadn't of been for the boat breaking down.

At the end of the day, as the sun was going down and setting the sky ablaze with rich oranges and golds, she wandered back down to the dock to find the man who had sent her on this mission. He looked up from tinkering as she approached, and stood up fully to greet her.

"Hey, kid. Did you-oof!"

His words were cut off as she rushed at him, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. He seemed frozen for a moment, before awkwardly patting her on the back. "Um-"

"Thanks for fixing the boat," she choked out, baby tears forming in the corners of her eyes. "Thanks for keeping me busy, and for letting me help. Thanks for being so welcoming to me. All of you were. I know you can be a bit of a grump-"

"Hey!"

"-but I really appreciate you letting me come down here, and letting me be your friend. That's what we are now, whether you like it or not."

He let out an awkward chuckle, although eventually his arms moved to return the hug. "Uh, thanks kid, I think. Not really a hugger, but uh…this is nice. I guess."

"You'll have to get used to it with Monty," she murmured quietly.

"Huh?"

"Nothing," she replied innocently, pulling away and wiping at her eyes. He regarded her with the same stoic expression as always, but she thought the corners of his mouth might be twitching up in a smile. "You gonna come back and visit us, then?" he asked.

"Oh yeah," she said, nodding her head firmly. "This isn't goodbye. Just a see you later." A proper smile flickered across his face, and she returned one twice as big. "I'll be back. You can count on it."

The boat isn't fully fixed yet, but you'll probably be heading home soon. Hopefully you've made some good memories on the island so far. Is there anyone your kalon wants to say goodbye to?
