Prompt # 13 "Jᴜsᴛ ɢᴏ ᴀsᴋ ʜɪᴍ ɪꜰ ᴡᴇ ᴄᴀɴ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ɪᴛ!"
Professor Richards will give you his fan, but the sun on the island has been unbearable, and he's gonna need another way to cool off.
How does your kalon beat the heat?
"Why don't you ask your boyfriend if we can have it?"
"Kid, one more smart mouthed comment out of you-"
"No! Seriously dude, the logical conclusion here is for you to go and use those charming manners and ask him yourself. You'll have a better time of it than I will!" Radford argued. He swore he could hear Shark's teeth grinding.
"Listen, I'm busy and can't afford to wander around the island looking for Mon-,uh, I mean the Professor and I don't have anything to offer him in return. You're smart, kid, you'll figure something out."
"But!-"
"I've seen you whale watching together it's not like you're strangers." Shark added grouchily.
Radford sighed. He could either stand here arguing with the mechanic for the next hour, or find Monty and convince him to give up his hand-held fan. Since he possessed a healthy dose of self-preservation, he chose the latter.
"Hey! Professor!"
"Why, hello there Radford, how are you today?" Monty asked. He was lounging under a palm tree with his fan and a copy of Master and Commander.
"Fine, dude, cheers for asking. Umm. The mechanic thinks your fan would come in handy for repairs."
Monty almost dropped his book and looked around in a panic.
"Oh. He's back at the ship, is he?" he said dejectedly while pushing up his glasses.
Radford wondered whether thoughts of harm could be projected over long distances.
"He's too shy to ask you himself." he responded treacherously.
Monty brightened. "Oh, he doesn't appear to be the shy type. Well of course he can have my fan. Happy to be of service! I will miss the little gizmo though," he sighed sadly as he passed the fan over.
"About that, Professor, I was wondering if you were interested in trying an experiment?"
Radford returned to Monty after dropping the fan off to Shark. After making sure they both had plenty of water, had slathered themselves in sunscreen, found a quiet nook under the shade of some palms and made themselves comfortable he explained what they were about to attempt.
"I'm intrigued! Mind over matter, yes? We won't know until we try so let us begin!" the Professor said enthusiastically.
They spent the rest of the afternoon practising meditation, attempting the cooling sitali and sitkari breath.
