What are they hunting?:
Casey looked up to the sky for the first time in hours. He was running out of daylight and a strain started to form in his neck. He let a frustrated noise escape him. He then stood from his position in the crook between a tree trunk and it's branch where he had been crouching, motionless all afternoon. His knees popped loudly in the unusually quiet stretch of woods. Casey grumbled something about his age, then, without taking his hands off of his bow, he carefully leaped down from his perch. Normally they would have walked their trail by now, but nothing but a few deer showed. Casey shivered at the thought that they could be getting smarter.
Before he left this portion of trail, he once again studied the tracks that they had left. The footfalls seemed unnervingly human-like, but this wasn't the job of humans. Wherever their feet fell, they left a trail of decay in their path. Dead grass and blackened flowers stood out like a stamp of ownership on the ground in the shape of disfigured feet. However, already, the tracks that lay before him were starting to regain a green color. Casey couldn't help but feel a shiver crawl up his spine. He gritted his teeth and muttered, "I need a new job." After his younger self started to lose the thrill of the hunt, the idea of being a ranger had lost it's appeal.
Suddenly, the rustle of fallen leaves interrupted his train of thought. "I guess you are getting smarter, that's not good," Casey tensed himself and gripped his bow tighter. A hollow feeling that could only be described as a paranormal lack of sound creeped into his head. He had never been ambushed before. Casey spun and turned until he caught sight of his prey. It stood at roughly 6'5 (198cm), towering above Casey's shorter stature, and was similarly shaped to a human. Except with elongated limbs that bent in awkward places, a nearly pure white complexion, and nail-less, needle-like fingers that stretched far longer than that of the average person's. One such finger was currently pointing at Casey's chest, nearly bridging the gap between the two of them. Casey made sure he was safely out of reach before readying an arrow and aiming it a bit north of the center of the creature's chest. The creature tried to keep up with him, but was far to slow. Casey grimaced, "There you are."
