When they first became stranded on the island, Casimir resented everyone on the island, the boat, the water, wherever. He hated the world and he wanted no part in this repair. It hadn't been his job! He didn't want to find keys, or parts or whatever else. But it all began to shift. Cas began to see it as a competition, a game.

He wasn't even really phased by the mermaids. He had always believed they had existed, had sworn to seeing them before when he'd been out sailing. But no one wanted to believe his tales, thought them only as flashy stories for parties. Oh but what a party this was. A broken ship, a cute mechanic (not that Cas was looking, ofc, he's married!), casino games, beach combing. It was a party, or at least it would be a nice story for a party.

Casimir played around with the keyring in his hand. It was large, several shined skeleton keys attached. A few silver, another couple brass, and one gorgeous golden key with a ruby inlaid. It was something he'd kept for a long time now, a special set. But the merfolk would surely love it, if not for the gems but for the jingle of bright keys against one another. There had to be some type of instinct from infancy that never truly went away when it came to the rattle of keys. Or maybe it was just Cas, he'd always found himself drawn to keys of all shapes and sizes. (his favorite set was actually just standard iron, and the keys actually went to working locks used to keep up his shop)

Casimir twiddled the keys for a second longer, fingers lingering over the ruby, before handing it over with a soft sigh. He had plenty of keys, this was just another set in a pile of keys. Besides, trading meant getting the boat back running so he could return home to his loving mate (and his other keys!)

What does your kalon trade the mermaids to get the spare parts?

"Something shiny?" Willow tilted her head. "Hmm..." She reaches into her bum bag and rummages through it, only to find a few quarters and a bit of old lint. "Heh... heh... uh..." She trails her voice, in high hope of spotting something glistening in the sand. The mermaids concave on her, getting suspicious, and in-demand of what they require. Without thinking, Willow cries out "Here you are!" And shoves the cleanest quarter she had in their faces. The mermaids' faces change from paranoid to disgusted. " A quarter?" One spits. "Yes- but- this is- not any quarter!" Willow speaks, attempting to sound mysterious. "This is a very RARE coin!" She protests. The mermaids roll their eyes. "Were not that dumb." Ellie moans as the other nod. "But I have proof!" Willow snapped, suddenly regretting what she had said. All the mermaids' ears prick up and their eyes widen. "Oh really?" Charmed Torii. Willow nods slowly as she inspects the coin, it suddenly hit her that that coin was from Australia, from her latest holiday. "Take a look for yourselves, see the swimming creature? That's a platypus, and there are only 5 of these coins in the world!" Ellys took it off Willow, nodding, slightly convinced. "Wow... I've never seen one like THIS before!" She finally confirms. "Yep, very rare," Willow adds, hoping shes sealed the deal. The other mermaids gather around to take a closer look. "Deal!" Shouts Ares "No take backs!" She flings the parts into Willow's arms and the four of them bolt off into the ocean. "Yep, no take-backs..." Willow repeats, skipping off to Shark, he'll be pleased.

Something shiny? What were they, birds? Sycamore rolled her eyes. It seemed way too patronizing to try and pry away the parts the boat needed by toying with them and offering the mermaids shiny bits and bobs like they were children or some sort of animal. They were kalons too, right? Weird ones, sure, but still made of the same basic things that she was. And she knew she'd be pretty upset if someone tried to bargain with her with some shiny trash.

So instead she returned to the edge of the forest and found a few fruit trees. It took a moment or two, but she tossed rocks up at the trees until she'd claimed a few ripe-looking pineapples, coconuts, and even bananas. Sycamore loved fruit, and to her, the scent was just heavenly.

Surely they'd like these, right? She couldn't imagine the torture of seeing such pretty fruit so close, and smelling it, but being able to do nothing about it because they were trapped to their little pool of water.

With a sharp rock she'd scooped out of the sand, Sycamore cracked open the coconuts to reveal the liquid inside, and scraped off the outside from the pineapple. She carefully balanced it all on a large green leaf she'd gently plucked from a fern and carried her offerings over to the sea-born kalons. "Try this!" She insisted, offering each one some of the fruit to eat. The mermaids seemed cautious and even annoyed at first, rolling their eyes and flicking their tails at her, but eventually they gave in and Sycamore smirked. Food was a universal language. They all needed it, they all loved it.

Soon enough the mermaids were munching away, tittering happily about their new bounty. Parts forgotten by them, Sycamore crept around the pool and snatched them up into her arms before returning to the safety of the forest with her wet, metallic bounty. "This better be the last mission," She muttered.

What does your kalon trade the mermaids to get the spare parts?

I purse my lips and close my eyes before I explode (once again) of frustration. They always need to get something out of us tourists. I mean, lets think back to Spider and Rook who insisted we gotta play a game to earn Shark's key. But.... now I'm stuck at Mermaid Cove, which means I don't have the time or materials to add a heavier Jenga piece to the tower. I have to confront mermaids. I didn't believe they even had a face on earth but here I am now, in front of them.

"So.... got anything, tourist? We are not just gonna lie here and look at you pout," Torii snickers.
"Can't give you a thing if all you offer is air, because we have gills, hon," Ares grins.

"What do you want, fishies? I'm sure I've got something more valuable than that garbage," I point at the spare parts I desperately need, hoping they'll just give it to me for a lower price.

Torii hisses, "We know these parts are made of real good metal. I want something... shiny!"
The other mermaids eyes glitter at the thought of something shiny and they began to clap. Gee sea creatures, is there anything you want other than shiny?

I desperately take a look in my tiny bag. There's a plastic squirt water bottle that says "Whale Watching with Monty." Uhh... I'm sure they won't want that (plus I kind of want to keep it.) I've got my super wrecked notebook that's been drowned about a dozen times since ive docked here. And lastly, shoved at the bottom of my bag is a pen. Not just any pen though. It's a pen that's got more features than I do. From the multiple pen colours, to the ruler on its side, to even a screwdriver. I even let Shark borrow it once and now he keeps asking for it (I just say I lost it.)

Worst of all though, it's shiny. Like way shiny. So glittery it hurts. Yet I love it.

I try to make the pen sound interesting. "How about this magical, majestic, shiny pen? It has many features all in one. How about you see it."

"Ooooo" Torii gives a toothy grin. He starts to fidget around with it. I hold my breath, hoping she'll accept the offer.

"Hey Torii!" Mind passing it around?" bickers Ares.

They pass it around. Many are in awe, some snicker, and some sit in silence like a baby trying to figure out what all of the features do.

Finally Torii makes a decision. "Yesssss I will take this magical pen you speak of, dear." He hands over the spare parts to me. "Now take this rubbish! I don't want to see you running back demanding a refund."

I feel a tiny bit in my stomach, remembering the times where I twirled the pen around my fingers like ribbon, and how I could smoothly dance the pen through them. But I know this cruise is more important.

"You want something?" Azrail questions, then gives a small smile. "I can give you anything you want. Just name it!"

The mermaids all clamor and call out their requests, exciting at the prospect of getting anything they want. He picks out the key information that they give. Ares wants a necklace, Ellie wants a ring, Ellys wants a bracelet, and Torii wants earrings.

After talking to them for a while, Azrail gets a pretty good judgment on their likes and what type of color would suit them. Unfolding his invisible wings, he disappears from the cove and makes a mental note of where it is so he doesn't have to make the trek again. Azrail ends up right where he wants to be -- in a closed jewelry shop across the world.

He doesn't mind stealing since he's not a very good angel anyways, so he starts rummaging through random cases and pulling out jewelry with different gems. An opal necklace for Ares, a diamond ring for Ellie, a sapphire bracelet for Ellys, and aquamarine earrings for Torii. Satisfied, Azrail unfolds his wings and disappears from the shop.

The mermaids gasp when he appears in front of them, but then they squeal in excitement and swim over to him when they see what goodies he brought. Azrail gives each of them their requested item, and they all try it on.

"Thank you so much! Please, take anything you want," one of them chirps and points to the inside of their cove.
