Cat Name;; Chattering Rook (Rook)
Gender;; Female
Age;; 27 moons
Clan;; Cats of the Tides (for now)
Rank;; Second
Prompt;;500/500 ;w; wrote:Rook huffed softly, breath billowing out in front of her in a light cloud as she gazed at the territory and took notes. Despite the light snow currently settling over her shoulders and spine, the cold of the harsh winter was finally losing its grip in the land above and making way for the brief summer, which was her reason for being above ground after all. She devoted a day or so of her time every warm season to checking the land above for any new dangers that may have sprung up in the six moons Maun Gonakru had been hidden away from the world as well as relaying any important news to the forest dwellers of their clan. It was a solo tradition created by Chattering Rook herself and one she enjoyed greatly, as it gave her time to connect with herself and the world above, thoughts drifting slightly as she moved.
It was those same thoughts that got interrupted when a glimpse of something large and white caught her eyes, making her paise as her head swiveled sharply to scan the horizon. Nothing seemed to exist besides her as she searched and the thick furred she-cat almost thought she imagined the instance before she caught it again, closer and now audibly making soft huffing sounds. Recognition of the sound made her hiss out a low curse and flatten herself as close to the ground as she could. Her light brown fur was good for camouflage amongst the dirt and plant growth of the summer, but not so much in the snow and certainly not around predators with sharp eyesight. A moment more of waiting revealed the grunting shape to be a massive polar bear and two cubs stumbling right behind, most likely making its way to the ocean after its long nap. Rook's claws dug into the earth below her, fur prickling slightly as every muscle in her body tensed, prepared to spring into action at any moment. Whether that action was to attack or flee was unknown at the current moment, but she was primed for either.
She waited for what felt like an entire day but in truth, the sun had barely moved from its spot in the sky, until the family had
slowly made its way across the tundra and disappeared over a hill, having stopped a few times to brush against the trees or sniff at the barren bushes poking through the latest snowfall. "Hofli light kom spirits ai raun odon yumi,"* she breathed in prayer as she sat up, after another moment of stillness to ensure she was safe and made a mental note to let Nyx know that the giant predators where awake and on the move so the Heda could warn everyone to be on the lookout.
With a few quick swipes of her tongue to calm ruffled fur and a steadying breath, Rook continued her task of patrolling the territory but was careful to keep watch for the returning predator.
*May the light of the Spirits watch over us

it was moon-high, and lynxstar had picked up the evening patrol on his own, wanting a bit of head-space & the chance to let his warriors sleep. the borders had been quiet lately anyway, and all had been going well the last few days. it was times like these that caused the poor tom to overthink, and to expect the worst, as he was quite the chronic worrier.
he had made it to the abandoned twoleg cabins when he started to feel a sense of unease creeping up his spine. as he continued further, it felt less like a warning tingle, and more like something icy was grabbing him by the nape of his neck. Pulse quickening, he stopped in his tracks, concerned that something terrible might happen if he continued onward.
shaking himself of the fear, he turned to leave, deciding that this part of the territory could wait until morning. as he turned, a bolt of lightning struck the ground dangerously close to him, sending him flying in fear. Residual electricity crackled over his fur and his whiskers twitched fearfully, as he hustled back to camp. As he burst through the hole in the wall surrounding his camp, the thunder caught up to him, a deafening crack that awoke the whole clan in an instant.
Was that feeling he had truly just from the lightning, or was something more sinister at play?

Cat Name;; PetrelBreeze
Gender;; male
Age;; 27 moons
Clan;; BeachClan
Rank;; wave runner
Prompt;;
Petrel let out a long sigh, ears flicking back as the gentle breeze that pushed from the coast faded out. The sounds of dusk were a blanket in the air, the odd cricket, the waves and the creaking of the tree branches against each other. It was a calming evening, the summer swaying in and out of the mind. He gently let himself lay on the ground, the pine cone mulch that made up the forest floor wasn't the softest bed but after running the length of the beach numerous times he found that the mulch was the most comfortable thing he'd laid on.
Eyes flicking closed he was content to let the world slow and spin away as sleep caught up to him. This land was a haven, nothing bad had happened here in all the years he and his mother had lived here. It didn't matter where you laid your head down here, the shroud of safety was a gift to all creatures.
As the darkness reclaimed the land something flickering over the land caught his attention. A light in the air that wouldn't leave that flickered across his eyelids. Dancing, trying to grab his attention.
Curiosity peaked and he resigned himself to take a glance as to the something that was keeping him from rest.
It was a little drop of starlight, a firefly.
He sat up, eyes blazing at the sight. It had been so long since he had last seen the little star drops. His mind ground it's gears pulling up dusty old memories that he had long since forgotten. As the insect roamed closer, tail signalling restlessly his mind stalled.
Ah yes, he remembered now, the last time he'd seen these insects. The memory hit him like a wave from the ocean, an image that he couldn't get out of his mind. A trickle of tears welling up as a perfect day played out in his mind. He missed his mother so much. [329/500]

vanilla bean.! i loved how this was written, and love how you put some element of mystery to it - there was something more to the flash than it seemed. i'm very intrigued as to what his feeling is really. and welcome to rise!
i'd love to give an HM to
dewly_noted; your form was excellently written as well, and i love the feeling it gave.
