Write your coral a goodbye letter!
"A good-bye letter?" Callie said, her voice catching. She hugged Marina's tank close to her and looked silently at the coral inside, beautiful and healthy. "I-I can't! I don't want her to go!" She cried out.
"She's healthy now. It's only fair to return her to where she belongs." Enke said gently, reaching out to put a comforting hoof on Callie's shoulder. "How about this. You can write her a good-bye letter. Before I take her down to her new home, I'll read it to her. I know she'll appreciate that."
"I... ok." Callie said dejectedly. She put the tank down slowly, hesitating, before reaching over to grab a sheet of wrinkled brown paper and a calligraphy pen. She faced Enke. "Could I do this without you here?" She asked. Enke nodded before walking away through the door of Callie's beach house.
Shedding a tear and holding in sobs, she wrote:
Dear Marina,
You have no idea how much I've loved hanging out with you every day, seeing you grow into the beautiful young coral you are. I am so happy seeing what you've become! My hate saying goodbye, but it seems I don't have a choice in the matter. Stay safe in your new home! You are so lucky to be able to have a fresh start in a better home! I hope you continue to grow and thrive in the waters of this beautiful area! I am excited to see you continue to grow, and I wish you well!
Until we meet again, my dear Marina,
Callie
Wiping her nose and eyes, she gently folds up the letter and slips it into a thick, cream envelope. Heading to the door, she sees Enke sitting on the log bench outside her house. She is surprised to see him quickly wiping a tear. "Hey, you ready?" He asks, standing up quickly when he sees Callie standing in the doorway, Marina in hand.
"I am." She says strongly. "It's for the best. I just want the best for her..." She trails off, looking down, before handing Enke the letter. She kisses the tank before handing it over as well. Get her there safely. And promise me you'll read the letter.
"I promise." Enke says, giving a slight smile. Enke begins to walk off to the beach, the tank and envelope in hand. Callie watches them go, tears falling freely down her cheeks. She smiles.

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
When Enke knocked on the door to Piscesโ hut, there was no answer, only the slightest hint of light coming from inside and the realization the door itself had been left slightly ajar. Upon opening the door, he was graced by the sight of the healthy, curiously colored coral in the center of her table. Closer inspection revealed an unsealed envelope, โSayลnaraโ written in careful handwriting. Enke opened the folder paper inside, his eyes scanning over itโs contents.
โMy dearest Sayลnara,
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. I knew that this day would come, and even incorporated that fact into naming you. I have watched you grow, flourish even, and have had the absolute joy of caring for you and getting to play a part in protecting something that means so much to me. I had steeled myself for this day, reminding myself to not become too attached, to care but remember the bigger picture.
Unfortunately, my preparations proved to be not enough, because you stole a piece of my heart, and you will carry it with you for the rest of your life. I wouldnโt have it any other way. Before I send you off, I want to give you some advice. Use it as you wish, I know that no matter what youโll grow to be an exceptional part of the ocean.
Be a protector. Care for those you meet, guard them and give them a place to feel safe. Never turn a friendly face (or fish) away, make room and keep your heart open. Continue to grow and encourage others around you to do the same. Watch those around you grow and begin families of their own, and watch their children grow. The circle of life is a beautiful, yet bittersweet event, and it will open your eyes to the wonders of the world around you.
Most of all, though: Learn to say goodbye. Learn it in the many languages and forms it comes in. Itโs hard to say it, hard to see those around you leave or move on. But know that itโs okay to say goodbye, and that saying goodbye is necessary. You cannot grow if you continue to remain still, seeing the same things over and over again with no new experiences. I know as a coral you cannot move far, but the creatures around you can, and will. Itโs okay to say goodbye to them, itโs okay to hurt and to feel lost. But you are never alone.
You are loved. You are important. Not just to the ocean life around you but to those who walk on land, to those who marvel at the wonders of your world and to those who rely on you. Never feel like you are useless, because you are far from that.
And lastly, know that you carry a fragment of my heart with you, and will do so until the end of time. Carry my heart with you.
I carry you in mine.
- Pisces
P.S. I found out why you kept beating me in smash. I had the CPU at level 6 and I was at level 1. You sneaky coral, you.โ

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
"I have to say goodbye? But.."
The blonde cow swallows hard and presses her head gently against the tank containing the coral she'd been caring for.
My darling Cadenza. How am I ever supposed to let you go now that you've come to mean so much to me? I've watched you grow from a tiny little grey nub to this glorious golden branching beauty! I feel so strange knowing that you've grown so much under my care, I don't feel as if you're my child or anything like it. More like someone who has become so very dear to my heart in a strangely quick manner.
When we first met, you were of little importance just something to watch over and sort of entertain every now and then. It wasn't until you began to grow that I realized how much fun it was fun to have you near and to take you round the resort. I wonder if when I sang? Maybe you sang too but in your own coraly way rather than how I could I understand. It's funny, I didn't really care and now I care too much. Maybe it's better this way, for me to let you go instead of keeping you in a tank so I can sing to you and drag you to places I think you might enjoy.
Cadenza please never forget me, even if years pass between us seeing one another. Never forget how much I love you and just how much you mean to me. You'll forever have a place in my heart.
Goodbye my sweet golden dream
Sabrina sobs quietly to herself, big blue eyes shut as she forces herself to stand.
"Goodbye Cadenza, I love you very much" she whispers to the coral then turns tail and flees
Unless I post somewhere, I'm not selling/trading closed species critters.

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
dear sea,
i can't believe you're already all grown up! this vacation really seemed to by in an instant because of you. i remember all the fun things we did: hanging out in the library reading books was so fun! it was kind of weird when i dreamed of you as a buttermilk, but i guess it just shows how much i care about you. you meant a lot to me these past few days, and i'll be thinking of you for a long time. this vacation was so special! i would put this message in a bottle and send it with you, but that's littering, and besides, you can't read, so i'm just reading this letter for you. you're going to do so much for the ocean and all the creatures in it! go do great things.

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
Bishop,
While this is a goodbye, this is not an end -- only a beginning. Where this period of growth and bonding has ended its chapter, the next one will bring adventure, and hard work, but ultimately purpose and hopefully success. There is so much work to be done out there, so much
good to be done, and I only hope that I have prepared you, and that you are able to adapt in areas that I could not foresee need. I have every faith in you, my little friend.
While you are here, filtering the ocean, my brothers and I will be rooting for you as we support other efforts to clean your home up, and work to help save vulnerable species. There are so many fronts to this fight to save the oceans... but you're ready to take up this one.
You will be amazing. Just remember that for me. Never, ever forget that.

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
Tears rolled down Rosaline's cheeks as she waved the boat goodbye, right at the edge of the dock, her family waiting behind her. They were impatient, but understanding of the close bond she had built with this little coral. Before sending him off, Rosaline tucked a small folded letter next to Geraldine's tank, which read
"Wow Geraldine, you're grown now. I'm beyond proud of you.
You won't be able to read this, but I'll read it to you tomorrow
morning before sending you off to start your new life helping
marine life for generations. You've taught me so much about
caring and helping the environment, and having hope and
giving good energy to things I believe in. I'll miss you truly,
have a good time little buddy."
There were now a few tear stains on the letter, but nobody minded, as it was such a happy day for not only Rosaline, but the other buttermilk coral parents who were feeling just what she was on this bittersweet day.
"Goodbye, Geraldine. Do big things out there."

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
Mia, Sorrel
Mia lay on her stomach, head propped up on her elbows, just staring at Maui. He had gotten so big, so gorgeous, and she couldn't have been more proud. Her heart ached, though, knowing that today was her last day at the resort, the day that she'd have to give Mia back to Enke to release. 'Or do you plant coral?'' she thought, letting out a sigh.
A knock on the door.
"Mia, come on, we have to go soon - it's time to take Maui back to Enke."
And, just like that, Mia's heart sank, and her stomach started to knot. "No,' she thought, stubbornly, 'I don't have to give Maui back to Enke. I can just take him with me."
Another knock.
"Mia, seriously! Are you in there worrying about your hair again? I told you, it always looks good. And we don't have time for this!"
Sorrel's voice was a little muffled through the door, but Mia could definitely still understand her - she was just choosing to ignore her friend. When another knock came, Mia rolled her eyes. At the fourth knock, she let out an audible huff and glared at the door.
"Mia! We have to go give Maui b-"
The girl jumped up, and swung the door open wide, "I'm not giving him back!"
Sorrel furrowed her brow in response. The two stood there in silence for a few moments before Sorrel finally spoke up, "You have to, Mia. He deserves to be in the ocean, helping all of the other sea creatures that are gonna depend on him."
"No."
The other girl let out a light 'tsk' as she continued, "You have to, Mia, and you're only making it harder trying to ignore it."
Mia shot her a glare.
"We have to give Maui back to Enke so that he can go into the ocean. But, I'll tell you what: before we go, why don't you write Maui a letter to tell him how you feel?" Without another word, Sorrel was leaving the room, off to finish packing her things.
'What a dumb idea,' Mia thought, kicking the bed frame lightly 'But maybe I should...' She went over to the desk in the corner of the room and sat down at it. She pulled off a small piece of paper - it was a dirty, kind of golden color, made to look like an old piece of paper. Mia scoffed at that, 'Why on earth is that the paper they're going with?'
Still, though, she grabbed the fountain pen next to her and scrawled out in small, neat cursive:
When she was done writing, her throat was tight, and she felt a bit queasy. Somehow, though, she knew it was the right thing to let Maui go, that he would be happier in the ocean than she would be with her. And, even though it hurt, Mia was a little bit happy at the idea of Maui living amongst other corals, little schools of fish swimming all around him.
She nodded and curled the letter up as she stood up and left her suite.
Once she got down to the gift shop, she plucked a "glass" bottle from the shelf of the gift shop. In reality, it was completely biodegradable - she wasn't sure what it was made of, but the sign on the shelf said that it would dissolve in salt water in about a month's time.
"Perfect for sending your very own message in a bottle - without damaging the ocean!" she thought, handing the man at the counter some cash.
As soon as she left the shop, she went back to her suite and sat in front of Maui. She read her letter to him out loud before curling it back up and popping it into the special biodegradable bottle.
Now, it was time to take him back to Enke - with strict instructions to release the message in a bottle at the same time he put Maui and the other grown corals into the wild.
o and here's the dissolvable thing i was talking about, but in water bottle form: xxx

Write your coral a goodbye letter!
Lucky,
Hey, it's Nalu, your surrogate maman! You're all grown up kid, and you're going places! Specifically: the ocean. I know it's scary and huge and you'll be far from anyone or anything you've ever known. But YOU will be amazing! You'll blossom!
Enke's gonna tell me where I can put you so that you'll grow to be the biggest, most beautiful coral in the entire reef! And you really won't be all alone! Other little corals may go where you going, and you'll finally have friends with your own species. Maybe some fish will even make their homes by you!
Anyway, it's been a blast little dude! You've taught me a ton about the ocean and I'm sure i've taught you a thing or two about land! Two things you gotta remember: don't eat the yellow snow and live life to the fullest. Now, you go out there and make the ocean more beautiful, and I'll work on making it better for you and all the sea critters, okay?
This isn't goodbye, this is just the beginning of a new adventure. Make friends and be free and enjoy the salt and waves, little bud. I'll be surfin the waves and cheering you on.
Always,
Your pal Nalu

write your coral a goodbye letter!
My dearest Melusine,
Thank you.
Thank you for showing me the importance of the ocean, how wondrous it is, and how beautiful the creatures are, great and small. Thank you for reminding me that coral and sea plants are just as important as their fauna counterparts. You all hold the ecosystem together and your dependence on each other to thrive is inspiring. Thank you for showing me the ropes on how to care for sea life, your help will allow me to take more action against the increasing devastation of the ocean. Thank you for keeping me company on this trip, despite your inability to communicate with me, it was comforting all the same.
And finally, thank you for being you. Your very existence is a vital step to the recovery of the ocean. Youโre the most special coral on this Earth, and one of the most special friends Iโve ever had.
I know that one day youโll have spawns of your own, and youโll grow with a colony of thriving colourful corals. Youโll have turtles to keep you company now, and be sure to tell them that your very first friend was a little spotted bull - thatโll be a story to behold.
Goodbye, Melusine.
Iโll see you later, my precious little sea spirit.
May you live a long and wonderful life under the surface.
- Avalon
P.S, Sorry for the tear stains on the page.
