"You're doing it wrong," the stranger hissed from opposite him, the shine of blood showing from his maw.

It matched the ebbing pain from his ear. He felt queasy and a little bit disorientated as he tried to get a footing. He wasn't a fighter- not even a good hunter and right now he felt like prey. For a brief moment he felt like he had regained his footing, he moved to run only to end up splayed across the ground as the stranger tackled him.

"You're still doing it wrong," the stranger said, voice laughing as he moved his weight to keep Simba pinned. There was a long moment of silence.

"You go running around these parts, all bushy tailed and bright eyed and your gonna loose 'em."

Simba squirmed, trying to throw the stranger off, he finally gathered enough wit to say something in reply.

"Yeah thanks for the concern."

His words were dripping in sarcasm as he tried to find an out from this cats grip.

"Remmy, what are you doing?" Another voice called out, gentle, feminine. Simba looked upwards, as a tortoiseshell approached. "Leave him be at once!"

"Sorry Marquess!" The stranger, Remmy, replied immediately getting off of Simba shoulders.

"My deepest apologises roamer," she looked from him to his ear, "perhaps we should get that patched up, I assure you no more harm will come your way."

He really should have paid attention to the way Remmy's voice had tensed when the she-cat approached, the way his tone reflected fear for the curt and gentle Marquess. She was playing charades with her words and cards with his life. [273]
