Take your coral to your favorite spot in the resort!:
Pippin β’
Eirwen β’
CatherineβEirwen lugged the heavy tank in her arms, huffing and puffing as she following behind Pippin who ran ahead with excitement. Having lost a bet, the girl had offered to give her younger friend a special trip to wherever she wanted to go within the resort, and unsurprisingly, Pippin chose the gift shop. However, Eirwen wasn't expecting to bring a heavy, ten gallon tank full of water with them on this trip.
β"Please, let's bring Cni with us! Let's get it something special and make happy memories for it to remember us by before it goes home!" Pippin had pleaded, giving her friend the biggest puppy eyes imaginable. Eirwen, knowing full well that this was a terrible idea, couldn't help but give in. She'd soon come to regret saying that it was alright.
βPippin pushed open the door to the shop, holding it open for Eirwen as she approached, who had to turn sideways and slowly scoot in to enter. All the while, the tank water was sloshing around within the glass container.
βBoth sets of their eyes lit up at the sight of all of the nick nacks lining the shelves and hanging from those round, spinning stands set out on the floor. There were objects of all colors of the rainbow β various plushies of sea life, those plastic grabbing tools that had shark heads on their ends, t-shirts with jellyfish and manatees, mugs for mom, and your typical mini license plates with people's names on them. Pippin, after a short moment of awe, ran amongst the shelves to look for a gift for her little coral friend.
βMeanwhile, Eirwen struggled to support the weight of the tank. It felt like her arms were going to fall off.
Why had she ever agreed to this?
βAnything with a name on it was immediately out since Cni wasn't a common name, and the plushies β as cute as they were β just weren't suitable for a tank. That seemed to be the case with most of the items. Either they were too soft for water or the plastic might leak chemicals into it and kill Cni. Pippin frowned. She'd have to search harder for something suitable for her small friend.
βEventually, Pippin found some cute stickers that she could use to decorate the outside of the tank and grabbed the biggest shark plushie that she could find for herself. She returned to Eirwen, who at this point had given up holding the tank and set it down while she waited for Pippin.
β"You ready to check out?" she asked, and Pippin nodded in return, handing her items over to the elder girl. Eirwen had agreed to pay and she could feel her bank account nearly draining dry from the sixty dollar plushie. But...it was worth it.
βOnce they had returned home, Pippin immediately got to work decorating Cni's tank. There were stickers of coral that she thought might help Cni feel less lonely, as well as stickers of various fish and even some cute bubbles and hearts. She smiled contently, satisfied with her work. It was then that Eirwen poked her head around the corner of the doorframe.
β"Hey, Pippin?" she asked hesitantly with a smile. Pippin turned around to face her, looking at the girl expectantly. "I β uh β I got you something." She stepped in and sat down beside Pippin, holding a wrapped gift in her hands. Pippin looked at her in a mix of surprise and wonder before taking the gift and unwrapping it carefully.
β"Oh my, Eirwen...it's so pretty! Thank you!" Inside the box was a blue coral plushie, exactly like Cni.
β"Look underneath," Eirwen responded, on the edge of her seat. When Pippin held the plushie up, there was a beautiful glass sculpture beneath. It was a pink, branching coral. Pippin looked back at Eirwen, her mouth gaping in awe. "I thought Cni might get lonely so I got you a glass coral to put in the tank with it. And I had a plushie custom made to look like Cni, so even when we have to give Cni back to the ocean, you'll have something to remember it by." Pippin's eyes began to tear up. It was incredibly thoughtful of Eirwen to do all of this for her and she hugged the coral plushie tightly against her chest.
"T-Thank you so much, Eirwen! You're the best!" Eirwen hugged her tightly, smiling even harder which she didn't think was possible. "But now I wish that I had gotten you something," Pippin continued, laughing.
β"Don't worry about it, today was your day after all. You deserve it!" Pulling away from the hug, Pippin went to wash her hands as a safety measure for Cni's wellbeing before grabbing the fake coral and setting it in the tank beside Cni. Stepping back, she held her hands to her hips with pride, nodding at her job well done.
βEirwen thought that Cni couldn't look any happier in that moment.
