Juniper
flowers:
On a warm but windy morning, young Juniper walked beside his mother. The sunlight shined between the tree trunks in the freshly awaken forest that Juniper and his mother were walking in. A few tall shrubs seemed to be hiding a clearing up ahead. One of the shrubs was leaning just enough to give a space that he or his mother could go through. “Go on,” she smiled and gestured for him to through the gap. He looked at her with a confused look before reaching out and pushing aside a few branches to get through. Once on the other side, he looked up and saw a huge field full of a bunch of different flowers. Butterflies were gliding in the wind or clinging to petals as small gusts of wind blew around pollen and loose petals. The air smelled so fresh and beautiful, and the sun shined ahead of him above the horizon. He gazed at the marvelous view for a second before covering one hand over his eyes to shield them from the sun’s rays. His mother walked over beside him.
“Beautiful isn’t it, my son?”
He looked up at her with a smile and his eyes luminous. She took him by his hand and led him to a small patch of vibrate red flowers that looked almost like roses. She knelt down beside the flowers and he sat down beside her. She held out her hand to one of the flowers and gently touched one of its petals.
“These are my favorite flowers,” she told him, “their color represents passion, motivation, strength and courage. Those are traits that you must never lose, because they make up who you are. You are a nice boy; you always have been. You stand up to your friends and are motivated to always become a better version of yourself. Life will challenge those traits, but you must preserver, always.”
She then stood up, took him by the hand, and led him back the way they came.
…
He stood by the door; his belt bag full of his mother’s favorite flowers.
“I’ll never forget your words mom, and I’ll always love you!”
He smiled before walking away. Only turning back once to see her waving. A tear ran down her face while she gave off a faint smile beneath the tears.
“I’ll always love you too,” she answered. (397/400)
