Cloudcatcher believes that when a cat sleeps their soul enters a 'dream realm' that acts similar to Starclan but is temporary and is only able to be entered through sleep. Both living and dead cats can enter the realm and she believes that is how med-cats and leaders speak to their ancestors; by talking soul to soul. Cloud believes remembering a bad dream means a cat's soul wandered into the Dark Forest's side of the dream realm and having a good dream means the soul has wandered onto Starclan's side. Not remembering a dream means the soul stayed in between the two.

Prompt:

Eclipse is convinced that she becomes other animals while she sleeps. The nocturnal ones that awake as all the cats go to bed; this is the whole reason their sleep and wake cycles are different. She thinks that maybe there's a reason the clan cats are typically active in the daytime, and creatures like owls and bats are active at night.

Dreams are simply a window into this other life they are living; and Eclipse often dreams of flying, letting herself drift in the breeze through the darkened forest. She has always felt a connection to the creatures that hunt at night, and knows there must be something more to her dreams.

After all, what other reason could there be for why she's still so tired after she wakes up from a deep sleep?

When Hollyfrost goes to sleep, she believes that the ghosts of CreekClan - all the kits and apprentices who died without being given their names to enter StarClan - gather around and watch the sleeping bodies. The spirits don't do anything, they just watch and talk about a cats future. The spirits are able to see into the future, unlike StarClan, even if they are to wander alone. Once they join StarClan they lose this power and all memories of the futures they have seen. However, Hollyfrost believes that sometimes these spirits will possess the body of another cat to live another life and try to make it as a warrior. If they do this transformation, however, the kitten will be lost forever, until the name of the kitten is chanted three times in a cat's sleep.

So, Hollyfrost believes the world changes when cats are asleep, both in their dreams and in the real world.

"When we dream, our souls drift in the clouds.

"There's this lingering 'fluffiness' and 'softness' in the background of good dreams. A foggy sense of a soft, white puff. I can really only describe it as a cloud, so that's what I believe it is.

"When things in your dream suddenly make illogical changes, but you don't realize how strange it is until you wake up, that's the cloud at work. It touches your dream, shifting it as a cloud is shifted by the wind.

"Dark, terrible nightmares occur when your soul floats inside a thundercloud. The hideous creatures that suddenly leap up from behind are the lightning, and the perpetual sense of darkness is caused by the.. well, the darkness of the thundercloud.

"When a dream starts peacefully, but later transforms into a nightmare, the area of sky you were dreaming began clear or filled only with white clouds, but was eventually turned dark by a storm cloud.

"What other explanation could their be for the strangeness of dreams? Truly, dreams can only happen in the clouds."

For the longest time, Fenris didn't think anything happened when he went to sleep, sure he had dreams but they never made any sense. So all that time he just thought it was his mind coming up with random things and stringing them together. He had no reason to think otherwise until right before he joined Ridgeclan.

"Well this isn't somewhere I've been before," Fenris commented as he looked around the forest surrounding him, the dream so clear and his words so calm for what he was sure was a dream. He learned quickly that it was much more than a dream and while no one came to explain it to him Fenris got the feeling that he wasn't the only one there.

That one dream made him question everything after that. Did his mind, his soul go somewhere when he slept? If so where did it go? When he joined Ridgeclan they told him that the dream must have been sent by the gods for him to talk with the ancestors. That the place his soul had gone was the home of them and he was very lucky to have been invited. So maybe that's what it was, Fenris honestly can't say. All he knows is that sometimes his mind stays in his body and sometimes his soul leaves it to go with those that have done the same.

"What happens when we dream?" The small voice of the black and white tom's daughter asked curiously.

"What do you mean, Ebonykit?" Skylight asked in return, looking at his child fondly. "We close our eyes and drift off. And then when we wake up, we're right where we were when we fell asleep."

The kit laughed and shook her head. "No, papa. What happens to our souls when we go to sleep?"

"Let me think for a moment, little one," the warrior said, taken aback by such a sophisticated question asked by such a young child. "Well, I've always thought that our souls take a little bit of a break from our bodies when we sleep."

"What do you mean?" Ebonykit asked, her bright eyes looking up at her father in wonder. "Like, our souls just..... go somewhere else?"

"Precisely," Skylight replied, wondering whether he should be this honest with a kit of 3 moons or not. He sighed, as it was too late to backtrack, so he kept going with his explanation. "I've always thought that our soul leaves our body and goes off on an adventure elsewhere. So, when you dream about climbing a mountain or swimming in the river, your soul is actually out in the world doing those things."

"But what if I have a bad dream, papa? Does something bad happen to my soul then?" Her voice caught in her throat slightly as she got a little choked up at the thought.

"No, princess. Nothing bad happens to your soul, okay?" Skylight said in his most comforting voice as he patted the kit's back gently.

"Why is she crying?" The sharp voice of his mate cut through the air like a knife, looking at their young daughter defensively. "I ask you to watch her for five minutes, I swear..."

"It's okay!" Skylight started, his words going unnoticed by his mate as she whisked their clearly traumatized child away with her. "Why did I even bother being honest...?"

Where do we go when we sleep? The answer is simple of course! To judgement. Our soul drifts towards Starclan or The Dark Forest depending on out deeds for the day...

Starclan is the pleasant dreams like me talking to the love of my life and being able to tell her how much I care for her. The dreams that transform me into a brave strong warrior that she admires. One that everyone looks up to. The dreams that leave a wondrous tingle in your heart when you wake up with a purr. That is Starclan's way of telling you that you are one step closer to your goal and that you are on the right path.

The Dark Forest are the dreams that cause night terrors! The horrible monsters chasing your, reminding you of how you failed, how weak you are... The night terrors that cause you to quake and shake in your sleep, that cause you to cry out for help, to jerk away in the middle of the night or the early mornings. It is the Dark Forest calling you and telling you that you are one inch into the depths of no return and you need to change your ways before you end up to far gone.

That is my opinion of where we go when we sleep, what our dreams represent and how our souls react to where we have gone... Judgement.
