at first, she was standing upright. then, the world shook several times
before everything crashed down in front of calliope. she yelled, but to
no avail, as her body merely flickered and glitched. what happened?
what was going on?

"apologies, user. we have experienced a temporary inconvenience and
had to force some programs to shut down. some information may not
be saved."

"what?" whipping around indignantly, calliope forced her body to re-
materialize and made her way towards the origin of the voice. a box
was floating in the empty space, transmitting the words to her, and
she gritted her teeth. "system, are you really so incompetent that
you'd have to resort to shutting everything down?"

the system displayed a shrugging face across the screen in response.

"you...!" cursing loudly, calliope dropped to the ground and held her
face in her hands. the system error had come out of nowhere; she
hadn't saved her work in some time, and much to her horror, she
had lost everything that hadn't been saved.

the last time she saved was almost twelve hours ago - who knows how
much work she had done since then?

"this system dearly apologizes! we know that we have caused a great
disturbance in your progress."

"your apologies are meaningless unless you can somehow fix this," she
snapped irritably, as a pop-up window appeared in front of calliope.

"we'll do our best to make amends! please accept our apology gift of
200 coins!"

"... i can't even use them."

"... oh."
