Cat Name;; Remus (Warrior Name: Redsand)
Gender;; Male
Age;; 22 moons
Clan;; FloodclanRank;; Warrior/Liasion (Former Rogue)
Prompt;;"None of us can stand this human city a second longer, especially with dad. Mom's finally found a lead for something better for us, Remus!"
Remus’ brother was always the one who knew how to confront their father. Or, well.
Maybe it was just because his father liked Roman more.
Tulane’s voice was grating. “It’s about time you suggested something worthwhile. Guess you’re not as much of a failure as your mother thought you were. Though I feel like Roman would have come up with something more… direct.”
His fat leader sat on top of the human trash can like it was his personal throne. Remus blandly gazed up at him, careful not to let any of his underlying irritation show. Roman was always the more direct of the two siblings. Just like Tulane. Roman’s quick mind was the top thing that always saved them in their dual childhood schemes, but Remus was always the one to employ the indirect, but sometimes even more effective routes to their games. The impressions of all-encompassing joy and long-forgotten love were really all he had left of his brother. Roman and Remus were an unstoppable force, before.
"Why can't I come with you guys?"
"Mom's scared you won't be able to make the journey since you're ill. As soon as we get in contact with mom's birth clan, we're coming back for you. Please trust us, Remus. I couldn't stand to lose you.
And if she won't, I will."
Well. No matter.
A shame Tulane never liked Remus’ “coward” methods.
The urge to grit his teeth was palpable, but his mama always told Remus not to do that. He’d accidentally scar up the insides of his cheeks otherwise.
“You’re really suggesting infiltrating that clan’s camp? What could you possibly do that any other cat in my circle couldn’t? They all have more experience than you do, and I’ve never seen you suggest a battle tactic strategy before, not like they have, and definitely not like Roman could.”
You mean those same strategies I fed to your loyalists just because I knew they’d end up telling you and claiming the credit? Remus thought but didn’t say, but he did mew something else.
“Tulane, I’m an unknown entity. It’s likely they’ve seen the faces or smelled many of the cats in your circle. Plus, since I’m young, they would have less reason to suspect me of anything.”
Tulane looked mildly impressed at the statement, which almost made Remus bristle, but— keep it cool, Remus. “Hmph, fair point.” Tulane paused to lick his pudgy, almost grimy shoulder.
“Well then, I’ll allow this little excursion. Maybe you’ll actually learn something worthwhile, even if it would be effortless for your brother,” Tulane simpered as he hopped down from the trash can, “Might have to take out that striped deputy, he seems to be the one running the show. The smaller male doesn’t seem like much of a leader anyway, so hopefully this isn’t too hard for you.”
Remus’ lip curled, but he kept his voice level. “The leader is actually—”
“But don’t think this is just going to be an easy retreat,” Tulane steamrolled over Remus’ comment, leaving the younger tom’s eyes to blaze in the anger that seeped through. “I don’t want to hear word of you actually chumming it up with these clan cats. Religious zealots, the lot of them.”
Remus’ tail lashed at the obvious dig against his allegiances. He stepped closer to Tulane in challenge. “Excuse me? Do you honestly think I’d side with those dirty low-lifes?”
Tulane snorted, like he couldn’t expect anything else. “Be grateful I’m not sending someone with you to kitten-sit you. You can be as shifty as a weasel at the worst possible times. Your loyalty stays with us. You play nice, you get rid of who you need to, and then get out.”
“I only suggested this plan for the good of the—”
“How do I know you’re not just scurrying off to leave your responsibilities like your mother did? If she’s not dead from the elements already, you know she’s not going to welcome back a cat who flaked from what he was supposed to do if you go to try and find her. And neither is your brother. There’s a reason why they didn’t take you.”
“Remus and Mother left because of you and you know it.”
Tulane pushed up into his son’s face. Remus didn’t even flinch. “Watch your mouth and know your place, kit,” He sneered, “I’ve been gracious enough to let you stay here since your mother left with your brother. She might’ve thought you were a lost cause, but I’ve invested too much time into you to see you fail because you were too much of a coward to follow through. Don’t push your luck.”
Remus had to stop his jaw from locking. His father’s words didn’t matter to him anymore.
...How many times did he have to convince himself of that before it sunk in?
Tulane turned to walk out of the alley, but not before getting in his final, final say in. Disgustingly enough, Remus saw Tulane’s entire figure sag with exhaustion, like he was actually sacrificing something by admitting his next long-suffering words. “Please convince me that your ideas aren’t always going to end in destruction. You might not pick up on these things as fast as your brother, but you know I’m always rooting for you.”
Remus tasted copper bloom in his mouth.
Guess he bit through his cheek anyway.

Gender;; Male
Age;; 18 Moons
Clan;; CreekClanRank;; Warrior
Prompt;;Redstorm doesn't remember too much about his lost sibling, all he remembers if sound and the scent. His sibling had a sweet milky scent from their mother but also a sweeter scent, similar to mint or rosemary. It calmed the tom whenever they were together, and Redstorm would always nuzzle closer to it. The scent alone is in his dreams and memory and it fills Redstorm with the belief that maybe he will see his sibling again someday.

Cat Name;; Skipperstrike
Gender;; tom
Age;; 24 moons
Clan;; Zephyrclan
Rank;; Warrior
Prompt;;
His brother had always been the golden child, the one their parents expected great things from. Even at their youngest, Skipperstrike was the bad one - getting into trouble because he was out adventuring, always being tattled on by his brother. Skipperstrike would only see the disapproving frown of his parents, the disapproving looks the other cats gave him. But his brother received a showering of attention, always perfect, expected to be a great leader one day, despite them still being kits. Skipperstrike will always remember being in his brother's shadow, constantly overlooked because his brother was so much better than he was; never getting into trouble, never sneaking out of camp, and always lending a helping paw in the nursery with the younger kits or in the elder's den, even though he wasn't an apprentice yet.
Living with the realization that he would never be as good as his brother turned Skipperstrike into a bitter cat. He still feels like he has to live up to the expectation of his brother, despite having not been around him since they were very young kits. Whenever he does something wrong, he can still see the reproaching looks of the older cats, cats he hasn't seen since he ran away from his home. Skipperstrike comes off as surly and intimidating, snapping at other cats because he is afraid of doing something wrong in their eyes. The best solution is to not allow himself to get close to cats at all, to make them realize that he is truly a bad cat before they can formulate their own opinions, before they can say he should act more like a different cat.
Skipperstrike will never be good. He has assured himself that. But what's so wrong with being bad?
