name: Allure (meaning “the quality of being powerfully or mysteriously attractive or fascinating”)
what does she see in the mirror?:Allure is a beautiful young heifer; a very mature and level headed individual. Though she is young, she speaks with the wisdom of an elder. Her friends always come to her for advice, especially about their relationships and crushes. Somehow, Allure always knows how to fix the problem or to get two Buttermilks together, like magic. This has earned her the nickname “the Goddess of Love”.
But no one ever considered that the Goddess of Love might need a little love herself. On the outside, she was a happy and personable girl. On the inside, it was an entirely different story. Allure was always able to help her friends out with their romantic needs, but she never needed to help herself in the same way. She found there was a stunning lack of interest in her from the opposite sex, if you would consider lack of interest as no interest at all. She started to doubt herself, but soon, this doubt began manifesting itself as self hatred.
She was constantly questioning herself.
”What’s wrong with me?” she whispers softly to herself so no one else would hear as she combs over every feature of her body as she faced the demons in the mirror. Each time she did this, it ended the same, with tears and even more self doubt than before. Yet she kept returning to the mirror for more.
She winced as her hooves clutched onto her stomach, hot tears rolling down her cheeks. Her sorrow mixed with anger and she gritted her teeth, disgusted by her figure and the weight she had put on. The mirror showed an overweight, out of shape cow. Reality revealed a healthy and glowing individual who’s body would be envied by other cows.
Allure moved her hooves up to her face. She hated her pale eyes. They were dull compared to the other Buttermilks she knew. They looked so stupid with tears flowing out of them in the mirror. But outside of the mirror was a set of bright and beautiful eyes that shined with pure beauty. Her gaze captured hearts and melted them right on the spot.
Next was the nose. Allure moved her nostrils around a bit, worried that her nose looked crooked. It was not crooked, but her markings were asymmetrical. The mirror tricked her into thinking this was another imperfection of her body, but others admired the heifer’s striking pattern and the details within it.
Moving on to the ears and tail. The heifer adorns herself with such beautiful flowers in these places in an attempt to mask her perceived ugliness. A symbol of beauty to distract those who view upon her from her supposedly horrid looks. She fears that the switch on her tail doesn’t look quite right, as this is what the mirror has revealed to her. Same with her ears; the mirror planted the thought in her mind that one was bigger than the other. She felt the need to hide these insecurities, so she placed flowers over the “larger” ear to conceal it, as well as vine on her tail. The vines she dons on her front legs are a distraction, so that when asked, she doesn’t have to reveal the true purpose of her accessories. No one must know what the mirror tells her.
But the mirror feeds her lies. While the mirror whispered lies into Allure’s ear, the truth said otherwise. The other Buttermilks would stand back, in awe of her beauty. Everyone was too nervous to confess their romantic interests in her because of this. No one felt worthy of her heart and devotion. Allure had misconstrued the situation within her own mind, wrecking her soul in a quest to become perfect, when in fact she already was.
