"How did you say you got those scars again?" Denali, the guardian of the clan asked as he looked up from the root he had been chewing on.
Silverblossom sighed and shook her head, not wishing to relive her tale of foolish youthful recklessness. "You should know, I don't like talking about this very much, Denali."
"How come? Cat got 'yer tongue?" The husky laughed, booping the female cat gently with a paw. "It can't be that bad, can it?"
"It's embarrassing is what it is," she hissed in response, ignoring his joke. "But if you MUST know, I suppose I'll tell you;
I was younger then, maybe 10 or 11 moons old, and a couple of apprentices had taken their day off together with me. We had decided to go exploring in the woods, pushing ourselves farther and farther out of the territory without realizing it. We were laughing and talking among ourselves, everyone having a great time.
It wasn't long until we came across a steep hill and the other apprentices were trying to get one of us to roll down it- some sort of act of bravery at the time, even though it was quite stupid looking back on it. No one wanted to do it because they were scared, so I- being cocky and dumb in my youth- decided to do it and show all of them how superior I was.
So I took the plunge; tumbling down this huge hill, head over heels. Everything spun faster and faster, soon getting out of control as I crashed down the steep hillside. I felt sick- everything blurred together and I prayed to make it stop. Finally, the spinning and tumbling stopped, even though it took my head a long time to catch on. I heard a loud crashing sound and pain all over my body; I didn't know what was going on.
The other apprentices rushed to my aid and when they caught up to me I had been sick a few times, still suffering from the tumbling sensation. They asked if I was alright and I said I was just dizzy, but they said I'd crashed into a rose bush and had cuts all over my body from the thorns."
Denali chewed on his root contentedly as he listened to the female's tale, every now and then pausing his chewing to listen better. When she had finished he picked his head up and asked, "Is that also how you got the second half of your name? Blossom?"
The female cat nodded, ashamed of the constant reminder of that as well. "Yes. As if my suffering with the scars as a permanent reminder wasn't enough, the leader decided to give the second half of my name to the rose blossoms that hadn't quite bloomed at the time of the injury. I'm just happy that he didn't decide to stick me with the suffix of thorn for the rest of my life. Or fall, or tumble..." She sighed.
