@SnowRunners, here are a few horses I could throw into the hat. Sorry if any are repeats.
Bucephalus the horse owned and ridden by Alexander the Great.
Traveller the horse rode by Gen. Lee during Civil War (US).
Native Dancer the first Thoroughbred made a star through television.
Marengo was Napoleon Banaparte's mount.
Copenhagen was on the opposite side of the war as Marengo, and was rode by Duke of Wellington for 17 consecutive hours in the Battle of Waterloo.
