ok, i'm so sorry guys but i have a quick clarification. by story i do not mean book. i mean a story you were told like a fairytale or a story about when your parents were kids. i'm sorry i wasn't very clear. feel free to make yours a book if you don't have any other ideas but please don't just write the name of the book, summarize it.
thank you i'm so sorry

story: an old russian folktale my mom used to tell me, kolobok.

there was an old man and old woman, who were very poor. they had no money, and nothing to eat. the old man insisted the old woman bake a round bun.
"if you scrape the flour box and sweep the bin, you'll have enough flour for a bun!" he told her.
so she scraped the flour box and swept the bin, and made a little round bun. she lit the oven and baked the dough. after it had finished, the old woman set it on the window sill to cool. but the little bun hopped out the window and onto a bench outside, and from the bench onto the ground. and on he rolled and rolled, until he came upon a rabbit.

"i'm going to eat you, kolobok!" the rabbit called.
"oh, please don't do that! i'll sing you a song instead," the little round bun said.
      and he sung,

"i was scraped from the flour-box
      and swept from the bin
      and baked in the oven
      and cooled on the sill.
      i ran away from grandpa,
      i ran away from grandma,
and I'll run away from you, i will!"

and off he went. he rolled and rolled, until he came upon a wolf.
"i'm going to eat you, kolobok!" the wolf called.
"oh, please don't do that! i'll sing you a song instead," the little round bun said.
      and he sung,

"i was scraped from the flour-box
      and swept from the bin
      and baked in the oven
      and cooled on the sill.
      i ran away from grandpa,
      i ran away from grandma,
and I'll run away from you, i will!"

and off he went. he rolled and rolled, until he came upon a bear.
"i'm going to eat you, kolobok!" the bear called.
"oh, please don't do that! i'll sing you a song instead," the little round bun said.
      and he sung,

"i was scraped from the flour-box
      and swept from the bin
      and baked in the oven
      and cooled on the sill.
      i ran away from grandpa,
      i ran away from grandma,
and I'll run away from you, i will!"

and off he went. he rolled and rolled, until he came upon a fox.
"i'm going to eat you, kolobok!" the fox called.
"oh, please don't do that! i'll sing you a song instead," the little round bun said.
      and he sung,

"i was scraped from the flour-box
      and swept from the bin
      and baked in the oven
      and cooled on the sill.
      i ran away from grandpa,
      i ran away from grandma,
and I'll run away from you, i will!"

"sing more, sing more! and jump onto my tongue so i could hear your lovely song better!" the fox exclaimed.
kolobok hopped onto the fox's tongue and began to sing again,

"i was scraped from the flour-box
      and swept from the bin
      and baked in the ov-"

but before the little bun could finish the song, snap! the fox closed her jaw and ate up the bun.

story:

" the story of the baku is one passed down by many a grandparent to many a grandchild.
while we all sleep, a shy, friendly yokai, with the trunk of an elephant, tiger's paws, and
an ox's tail, will be wandering around hungry. if one happens to wake from a terrible dream,
and is afraid of falling asleep again, they might ask this creature "Mr. Baku, please come
eat my dream." The baku will come to their bedsides after they fall asleep again, and eat
any nightmares that wander into the caller's unconscious. "

story: When I was younger my dad always used to tell me this story and I hadn't heard it in a while until this reminded me of it, very nostalgic c:
My dad was born in Chennai (India) into a family of four; his dad, his mum and his younger brother. I very recently visited Chennai and I can tell you, it gets extremely hot there. He used to tell me of times when it was torrid like, and his care taker would climb all the way to the top of a coconut tree and cut down coconuts, and how his care taker would swiftly sever the husk. They would climb to the roof of the house and sit there drinking their coconuts and sit in the shade, enjoying the tropical weather.

I never got bedtime stories much as a kid, just wasnt my thing. This is a poem my dad used to recite a lot though, i dont know the origin of it and even googling it brings a lot of mystery about where its from (and the exact wording for that matter) but i always found it super interesting.

Extra; art based on 'goodnight moon' which was also a story j l o v e d

story: "All-Kinds-of-fur"
There was a king with a sickly wife who promised never to marry another woman unless she was as beautiful as his first. The only one he could find was his own daughter. Horrified, the daughter tried to make a wedding impossible by asking for a dress as gold as the sun, one as silver as the moon, another that sparkled like the stars, and a coat made from the fur of every kind of animal in the kingdom before she would agree. When he managed to provide them, the daughter took them and three golden rings and ran away the night before the wedding.

The woman slept only once she reached the wood of another kingdom, wrapped in the fur coat, but was found by a young king hunting there. She asked the king for pity and he gave her work in his kitchen, where she was called "All-Kinds-of-Fur" because she gave no name. The king held a ball one day and she snuck out to it in her golden dress. The next morning, the cook set her to make soup for the king, and she put the first ring in it. The king found it and questioned the cook and then All-Kinds-of-Fur, but he learned nothing. At the next ball, she dressed in her silver dress and put another ring in the king's soup, and the king again could discover nothing.

When another ball was held, she went in the star dress, and the king slipped a golden ring on her finger without her noticing it and ordered that the last dance go longer than usual. She couldn't get away in time to change and threw her fur coat over her dress before she had to cook the soup. When the king questioned her, he caught her hand, seeing the ring, and when she tried to pull it away, her coat slipped, revealing the dress of stars. The king pulled off the coat, revealing her, and they married.

(I loved this story growing up for the images of the dresses conjured in my mind and the silliness of putting jewelry into soup to get noticed, of all things.)
