Your vote for Frith's Emissary:
Prompt piece:
Igetis-rah called for another warren meeting in order to discuss the issue of the new Emissary of the white lop rabbit versus the chipmunk. The black and white broken patterned buck sat on his rock as his warren members gathered around him. While Bittersweet and Siopi sat next to each other as usual, Mamaro and their sister Dynami next to them. To their right sat Lupin and Myrtia, and the three newcomers- Lucky, Erasti and Sallow- sat at the back of the burrow nearest to the door.
"As many of you may know," Igetis-rah started, his voice staying as calm as he could even though he felt a bit angry inside. "I have called this meeting today to discuss who you all think is the true Emissary of Frith; the chipmunk who has been living with us for some time now, or the newcomer, the white lop rabbit. For those who have recently joined the warren, your opinions do not need to be shared if you do not wish."
With that, the rabbits took turns going around and sharing their opinions, starting with Bittersweet and Siopi. "Well, in my opinion," the fawn colored doe began, projecting her voice to be loud enough for all nine other rabbits to hear her. "It makes sense that the Emissary is a rabbit. In all of the legends and stories we have been told as children, it has always been a rabbit that has been portrayed. I have never heard of a chipmunk claiming to be an Emissary before."
Next who spoke was the black appaloosa rabbit to Bittersweet's right. Mamaro cleared their throat before they voiced their opinion, "While I agree that Bittersweet has made some good points about the legend in the past, I feel that the chipmunk is the true Emissary of Frith." The rabbit took a breath as they let the rest of the rabbits take in what was being said. "I believe that despite the legends foretelling the arrival of a rabbit Emissary, Frith has chosen to test our faith in him by choosing an Emissary of another species. If we choose to stay truthful to this Emissary, then and only then will Frith bestow upon us the bounties of spring."
"The bounties of spring? But what about all of the bad things we've been through so far that the chipmunk has brought to our warren?" Came the sharp words of the newcomer Sallow from the back. "From what I've heard, he's been nothing but trouble."
"Well, I believe that's the point of why the chipmunk has been chosen. To test our faith in Frith," Mamaro continued, looking for support from their sister Dynami. "Do you really think that after all these generations Frith would allow such an impostor to go around claiming to be His Emissary if he truly wasn't? He brings goods and gifts to test our endurance so He can see if we are worthy or not of a true gift of the bounties of spring."
With the final week of warming before the feast to celebrate the coming of spring, the rabbits of Deerbarrow Warren decided to spend the day gathering delicious silflay for the coming feast. It was decided that their leader, Igetis-rah would stay behind to organize the food brought back by the groups while the rest of the rabbits were divided into three groups of three; the first group would be made up of Bittersweet, Lupin, and Sallow, the second would be made up of Siopi, Myrtia, and Lucky, and the third would be made up of Dynami, Mamaro, and Erasti.
The rabbits decided to leave out the two-leg territory to the south as it was far too dangerous to gather food from their garden, but decided to send the first group to the western rabbit hills, the second group to the oak forest of the north, and the third to the pine forest of the east. All would gather food items worthy enough of the feast before bringing them back to their burrow to show their waiting leader.
Bittersweet, Lupin and Sallow set out along the path to the rolling rabbit hills of the western part of the territory in silence. None of them really wanting much to do with one another it seemed. They were content to gather up long sweetgrass and other bits of food while one of them kept an eye out for danger. Bittersweet knew all too well of the dangers that lurked in this part of the territory and she was not looking forward to having to deal with that any time soon. After a little while, the rabbits came across a patch of dandelion flowers and stopped to pick them.
Siopi, Myrtia and Lucky set out for the oak forest of the north. There, grew a variety of wild carrots, herbs and berries that were delicious enough to serve at a feast. With Siopi leading the way, the three rabbits hopped along with Myrtia singing them songs and every once in a while Lucky would join in the tune when he heard one he was familiar with. The pair of them seemed to get along well which Siopi would take over a pair of fighting groupmates, although if he was being honest with them he'd have to admit he would rather have peace and quiet. Once they finally reached the forest, the black and tan buck showed the newcomer where to dig up the carrots and had him start to work on that while he took Myrtia with him to collect berries.
Dynami, Mamaro and Erasti on the other hand, set off for the eastern part of the territory while they hunted down some types of food to eat. The warren had not been in this part of the territory before since it was the place where their leader had warned them to stay away from. He hadn't told them the reasoning behind it, however, which was rather odd. Regardless, the three rabbits were on the hunt for any types of food items they could find in the pine forest.
