Maia used to travel, all of the time, but her last trip ended with her human dying in a car accident. Maia would have preferred for herself to have passed away than her kid. She used to help her kid, with their epileptic disorder, and she did her damn good best to help her. They were on a trip to another state, to a land of joy for her kid, and then the inevitable happened; her kid was having a seizure, and Maia was right by her side, pressing her body against her and whining frantically. Her kid had gone so long without having an episode, and now her kid was due to have one. The kid's father was driving, and he turned himself around, a hand on the wheel as he tried to help his daughter, but he was in the wrong. Their car crashed into another, the father hit his head against glass, the airbag only worsening his injuries, and the kid? The kid was in the direct path of the other car, and she suffered more than anyone could ever imagine. She didn't die from the impact, but she did lose her life to blood loss, Maia could confirm that with her blood soaked fur. Maia could never forget that day, especially since she herself was a painful reminder; her leg, it was mangled in the crash, and she had to have it amputated. Maia sees herself as the flaw, she didn't help her kid enough, she didn't see the oncoming vehicle when she should have. Maia's one job was to protect and care for her kid, but she had failed.

Maia can't stand road trips, she can't fathom ever going on one again. Road trips scare her, they remind her of her failure to save her kid. Even her leg reminds her of that fateful day, and she can't stand it. She still helps people, her current owner and their son, but she'll never let herself attach to either of them, because what if she lost them like she did with her last kid and kid's father? Maybe one day she'll come around, but for now, she won't even think about going on a road trip, not after she lost everything that day.

Prompt: Arlette, for the most part, is absolutely terrified of the thought of being crammed into a car for hours. Arlette has been known to be a fairly claustrophobic dog, and the cars she's stuffed in often don't manage to comply with her need of space. While her owner may roll down the window for Arlette to poke her head out from, dirt and debris have been known to prick Arlette's face here and there. Not to mention the uncomfortable flaps and slaps of her ears against her face -- no thank you. While, yes, the wind can be nice once in a while, road trips are a solid no from Arlette.

Wade loves road trips I mean loves all the new sights and smells and dogs its great! What Wade doesn't understand is why people find him a "frustrating passenger" what does that even mean. Sure Wade sings along with the radio full volume and maybe he has hours of pre-prepared puns for his animal's companions but it clearly makes him the best passenger. They don't even let him stick his head out the window anymore. Something about "you tried to take a flying leap out of a car window Wade" "you don't have any sense of self-preservation Wade". Silly right? Other than the minor inconveniences caused by the fun police around him Wade finds road trips a blast. Plus driving is only half the fun you have to open that car door eventually and when you do have fun stopping him.
