It’s been...at least a dozen years since the last of the drinkable water was gone...
The only thing left was the ocean and that water is expensive beyond belief to filter.
Bay is intrigued about the pictures of rivers and lakes, because now there are only empty trenches and bare strips of land. He’s amazed that water -NATURAL water- supported so much life. In a world where the only water makes you thirstier and has beads of waste and plastic, this is impossible to imagine. Trees, animals, the sound of the lake are only stories now...
the fact that there are no bodies of cheap drinkable water only make the love and curiosity of said things greater. It’s impossible to imagine
Desert Superior, part of the Great Plains, as one of the largest lakes on earth- are they mad?!? Don’t be ridiculous!
His mother named him.
“What’s a Bay,” he’d ask.
She’d reply, “why it’s...it’s a- it’s when the land would curve inward in a shape and be full of beautiful water...”
Bay couldn’t picture it. Besides, you can’t even go to the only water left. The oceans are full of pollution. The rusty beaches are closed off to the public.
He was born the year they started rationing the water, and the first year every single river and lake were dry and dead. His mother hopes he will see a stream again one day...the salmon...wouldn’t that be nice? He daydreams of camping on a lake with the shore and the sounds of insects and fishing with his mom. It’s hard for Bay to imagine such a place, but could you blame him? Imagine a world like his.
His father died when he was young during the World’s War for Water. Countries would hoard their water and ration it poorly. Water was more expensive than gas- than gold! Toilets weren’t allowed to have water, showers were timed along with sinks. That’s when it was still okay. Now things are worse. We just can’t do that anymore. It’s like the olden days hygene wise. You dump your waste our the window. This of course spreads disease so sickness is very common.
Oh what Bay would do for even a lovely drop of dew in this world...what anyone would do....Counting (395/400) some important ideas are underlined. Also ;~; sorry if I wasn’t supposed to write about the Kalon
Art:
Bay: mommy....what’s a Bay....all of the moms seem sad when I ask..
Mom: one day...I pray you’ll see one. This war can’t go on forever...

Optional vintage style:

Just added a filter- it’s the same image.
(This was a long shot....I went for a very very unique style because this is APOCALYPTIC. Hope it’s okay and you understand this was intended...sorry about such a different take on things..)
