Cat Name: goosescreech
Clan: crownclan
Rank: warrior

Gender: male
Age: 96 moons

Prompt:
many a task set forth for goosescreech during his apprenticeship included scouting out various areas or solving simple issues on his own, he preformed these well and always returned with another success to him. with these tasks being given to him, it isn't any question he has seen several areas that would otherwise be unknown entirely. one of which, he has managed to call his own for a very long time thus far. the locating of it had been a difficult one, tracking up the icey side of the mountain his clan calls home by himself with a cruel wind all the while attempting to blow him back down the several hundred feet of foot sized ledges until hitting the clan area's ridge below. his path was determined entirely by the flow of their water down the mountainside, and he stuck as close to that as he could. his ideal task was to locate the source, and there lay no obstructions along the way, as the water had lessened a significant amount in the matter of a single day.
immeditaly upon arriving to a level area atop his conquered wall of rick below, goosescreech noted the lack of winds being cast in the area, several feet of rock to one side blocking them from cutting around at their current direction. but his focus zeroed in not long after onto the pool of water warped into the rock ground, still as could be in its closed off state. the apprentice did what he did best and examined the issue, loated the main point of trouble, and solved it. he shouldered a fair sized amount of rock rubble off to the side where it would not again find itself dropped into the water, and triumphantly watched the familiar stream begin to trickle down the mountain once more. what he did not acknowledge was the silent approach of an ambush from behind, until it was too late. a rush of wings flapping and a terrible honk from his back as - of all things - a gander launched himself onto him and prodded viciously with his toes. goosescreech panicked, and bolted, fending off the actual goose long enough to begin making leaping bounds down the size of the mountain he had just ascended, beating out the water that had been granted a headstart. young as he was, the incident terrified him to the point the only thing he could manage to yell was "GOOSE!!', effectively earning himself the very distict name he carries today.
months passed by in which the very independent gosescreech refused to travel any higher along the mountain that the clan area, frightened the gander might recognize him from below and issue another attack without prompt. it became much of a joke among the clan. but the taunts did some good, as eventually goosescreech again ascended the wall of rock to examine the area with the greatest of caution on his side. the place was abandoned, the only things remaining of the geese that had claimed home there being some feathers and a large nest. what began as an attempt to prove himself greater than his fears, became the surprising finding of a place all his own. perhaps the fact that he had been so unsettled by the place for so long had added to the allure of it, but goosescreech would never tell. he spends his free days lounging in the abandoned nest, or snagging the fish that managed to climb their way upstream from the water, entirely on his own in a place he almost couldn't stand to return to, at peace. Cat Name: Shatteredraven [gains the nickname "Stargazer" later in life]
Clan: Fadedclan
Rank: Warrior

Gender: Female
Age: 26 moons

Prompt:
Shatteredraven lifted her head from her moss bed, searching for any signs of consciousness from her den mates. She sat there, silent, for a few moments before deciding they were all asleep. She lifted herself to her paws and quickly and quietly moved her way around her sleeping clanmates, passing Dawnlight and Silentglade curled next to each other, some sort of sibling protection, the thought. She pushed past the emergency exit in the back of the den that led to a very tight tunnel and there, to the outside of camp.
Shatteredraven had recently discovered she could climb up certain flat rocks on the mountainside in the very northern end of Fadedclan's territory, she climbed a little higher every night and maybe one day she could reach the top, touch the stars, see what was over the mountains. Maybe one day she could be the first living cat to set paws in starclan.
The dark tabby ran through the sparse forest, ducking under bushes and leaping over fallen branches and trees. She had been taking this path every other night for about half a moon now and she was excited to get back to her little spot. A place she called The Star Steps. Shatteredraven grinned as she saw them approaching and took a running leap at the first rock and landed almost perfectly, taking her next few steps more slow to ensure she wouldn't fall. Even though she had done this many times before she still needed to be careful, sure, she was having fun but she couldn't be reckless.
Once she had gotten to the place she had gotten last time she paused, gauging how much of her strength was needed to make the jump. Her eyes narrowed as she lowered herself to the rock and pushed up with her hind legs, extending her front paws forward to catch herself since she hadn't put in enough spring. Shatteredraven cursed as she landed awkwardly and pulled herself up, claws scraping desperately at the rock but she managed to stand. She was higher than she had ever been before, and she felt like she was on top of the world, that she was one with the stars, she felt like by sitting up here she was watching and protecting the clan that so generously cared for her. A soft purr rumbled in her throat as she thought of this, she felt important up here and that maybe one day she would stop an invasion, that she could repay Riverstar for everything she's done for her.

    ███████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████

    Username: Diamondshine101
    Cat Name: Nightstream
    Clan: Cascadeclan
    Rank: Warrior

    Gender: Female
    Age: 32 Moons

    Prompt:

      Splash....

Nightstream shivered momentarily as the frigid waters seeped through her short fur. Bitterly cold winds whipped at her from all angles. "The prey has more sense than myself," she thought aloud. Not a bird graced the oak trees that loomed above her head, nor did any mice or wild rabbits graze for the shriveled berries that laid in the leaf litter. She continued wading further into the river. Once it started wetting her belly fur, she kicked off the substrate and swam across the rest of the way.

She quickly clambered out of the Great River, shaking out her drenched fur. Her callused paw pads and unsheathed claws steadied her on the slick stones of the bank. Carefully, she crept further into the forest, squinting through the harsh glare of the sun. Cascadeclan cats were, by nature, nocturnal. It was simply safer that way. But she had something important to attend to. And she had a feeling her clanmates wouldn't approve of it. She'd thought her eyes would've done a better job adjusting by now, but she still had a hard time bearing the brightness. At the very least, it no longer gave her a migraine. A slight tension headache, sure, but nowhere near as crippling as the first few days had been.

As she finished climbing up Rain Mountain, the forest opened up into a small copse. At its middle, under the canopy of thick conifers and a thin layer of last night's snow, was an abandoned bear's den. She cringed thinking of what it had been used for in the past. After a quick glance around for other cats, she hopped down into the den. The long dried up pine needles, the broken up shards of spruce bark, snapped and rattled under her weight. A shadow shifted in the depths, a faint cry emitted from it.

      ----------

      "CAMPIONSTAR!!!"

Mallowwhisker groaned groggily and rolled over. Lightningfoot bolted into the leader's den, nothing more than a pale blur. She stumbled in after him. "What in the name of Starclan is going on?"

The frail tom broke into a fit of coughing and wheezing, mouthing "I'm fine" to Campionstar when she shot a concerned look his way. "I heard inside the camp a bunch of rustling," he explained, "and I saw Nightstream slipping out through a tunnel between two of the dens. I didn't even know it was there to begin with. I followed her. She's been hanging around in....the death den. I don't know how long she's been sneaking out of camp for."

Mallowwhisker felt a flutter in her stomach that made her very queasy. "Wasn't it around this time a couple dozen moons ago that we started having trouble with," she lowered her voice into a whisper, "Maplestream?"

      "Indeed, Mallow."

"Isn't she around the same age that...she was at the time of conviction?" Sleetstorm remarked, striding cautiously into the leader's den.

      "Yes."

"And ain't it odd that her name's a mix of the loony she-cat and the bear?"

Everyone turned to stare at Mottlenose. When did she overhear them? And, more pressing than that, since when did she curse? She shrugged. "Just an observation folks. Think Starclan's telling us something. Something vital."

They sat in complete and total silence for more than a few moments. It was the leader that broke it. "How in Starclan did she find one of the secret exits? I thought only me and Mottlenose knew about those," she said, still a little shocked someone had found it. "Well, I guess we should check it out. Owletfur, watch the clan for me."

The cinnamon tom straightened his shoulders and took his post on Highledge.

"Mallowwhisker, Shadowfang, and Spiderstrike, meet me at the junction where the warriors' den and the apprentices' dens lead to each other. There should be a very narrow tunnel covered by a scratched stone ; secret exit one. Unpleasant, but it'll get us where we're going quicker."

      "We're heading out."

      ----------

They made a long arduous trek up Rain Mountain, their paws aching from the sheer coldness of the stone and still lingering snowdrifts. A copse of conifers signaled the location of long deceased Nightfang's den. One by one, they jumped down into the hollow. Nightstream yelped in surprised. All the way down at the end of the den was her shadow, which loomed over an unmoving figure, apparently dead.

But as they walked toward her, they gasped. It wasn't a cat and it wasn't dead.

It was a tiny peregrine falcon with a crooked wing wrapped in cobwebs and sticks. Still breathing, still alive.

"Oh," was all Mallowwhisker could muster saying. She felt sick ; the adrenaline crash hit her hard.

Campionstar sat next to the young warrior and licked her behind the ears in a gesture of comfort. "So, this is why you've been sneaking out of camp."

"I'm so sorry Campionstar," the dark molly mewed quietly, looking very ashamed of herself.

      "Why?"

Nightstream took a deep breath and tried to explain with as little shakiness in her voice as possible. "I found Rainflight, yes I named him, about a moon ago and I just couldn't leave him to die. I. Just. Couldn't." She paused. "I thought you'd deem me a raving lunatic." Her voice was still shaky. "Maybe I am." She steadied her breathes, stroking the injured raptor with her tongue.

"Oh, Nightstream," the leader began. "You're not mad, I assure you that. Your capacity for compassion makes me think of all those old nursery stories about the clan founder. I commend you for that. Why don't you bring little Rain back to camp? I bet Mottlenose knows a couple tricks that'll heal his wing faster."

Her dual colored eyes lit up. "Really?"

"Really, my child. Now let's head back."

As they trotted back toward the moonlight, Shadowfang piped in. "So, no dead bodies?"

Nightstream had almost forgotten that Maplestream had once used this den to hide the fourteen unfortunate souls that she'd killed. She chuckled. "Nope! Just a falcon."

Cat Name: Shadecloud
Clan: Voyagerclan
Rank: warrior

Gender: female
Age: 25 moons

Prompt:
Shadecloud was always one to keep to herself, but could never find a place to isolate herself when she needed it. On a particularly horrible night when she was more nerve-wrecked than usual, she left the camp to clear her head. Her paws had carried her to the edge of the lake that Voyagerclan resided by. She had stared at the lake's horizon for awhile absentmindedly until she began to notice a shape in the distance. The lake was frozen over at the time, so she cautiously wandered closer until she could see an island. The island was not very large, but the island had a high, cliff-like rock formation that rose above the pine trees. When Shadecloud reached the island, she climbed her way up the steep rocks until she was at the top. At the top, there were no trees. She could see Voyagerclan's camp, and even farther past the mountain range that enclosed their territory. Something in her urged her to look to the sky, and she did. The sight was astounding- Usually, there were too many trees to see the sky, save for a few stars and the moon. Up here on this high cliff, however, not only could she see everything in the camp and further, but she could see countless stars. Seeing all of the stars brought her a certain peace. She named it Voyager's Peak, in honor of Voyagerstar, the clan's original founder.

Everytime Shadecloud became overwhelmed at all, she would swim across the lake until she reached the island, climb up onto the rock formation, and she would stay there until her mind was clear, day or night. In the day, she would watch the clan below. At night, she would look to the stars in all of their light. It continues to bring her great joy everytime she steps on that high cliff.

Cat Name: Blackfoot
Clan: Cats of the Whispering Wood
Rank: Deputy

Gender: Male
Age: 36 moons

Prompt:

xxxxxBlackfoot looked around the camp. Swiftstar was still in her den, and Stormface was asleep on the object they called a “Couch”. The sun’s rays began to fade, slowly disappearing behind the trees that formed the forest. Coming up with an excuse incase he was caught, he slid out the flap which led to another strange flap, which then led outside. The sky was purple and orange, the blue darkening so it could allow the stars to shine. Blackfoot began to pad towards the swamp but stopped for a moment. He turned his head right to look at the forest on the west border, north of the camp. Of course, the trees were very thick in that direction, however through the silhouette of the countless branches light poured through the gaps. Blackfoot took a deep breath in and fixed his gaze ahead of him, back towards the swamp. He began to walk again, dragging himself closer to his destination. The previously bright green grass, shining under the sun’s light, was now a darker, less lively shade of green. It felt nice under Blackfoot’s paws, each blade flattening comfortably under his pads. As the sky continued to darken, he drew closer to an old twoleg fence, marking the end of the soft dirt and the start of the muddy swamp.
Image
xxxxxBlackfoot did not rush as he walked. In fact, he dreaded each moment closer to the time he would arrive. But he had to do it, he had to keep walking, to protect this place that was now his home. Blackfoot eventually came to the fence, the wood rotting and falling apart while the wire was on the edge of breaking, its grip on the wood loosening. He paused, staring at the still water and mud that lay past the fence. He then sighed, ducking down to crawl under the fence. Once past the fence, Blackfoot began to trot. The sun was nearly completely swallowed by the land and trees, meaning that he would have to hurry now. The water, unable to catch much light in its reflections, was dull and mixed with mud and half-drowned grass. It was a shade of gray under the nearly night sky, no stars out just yet to give the water any light. The mud was a dark brown, covering Blackfoot’s paws to the point where they were nearly invisible. The last of the signs of day were now gone, replaced by a pitch-black hanging above his head. New, gray clouds lay a dark sheet across the sky, blocking out any light the stars may try to use to reveal themselves. The air hung heavy, the heat from the day still trapped even after the hours of cool temperatures that have passed.
xxxxxBlackfoot knew he had arrived once the mud dried out to dirt, despite being in the swamp. The area was littered with rocks, a few small streams of water flowing through the tiny space. The oak trees rose far above his head, the branches allowing moonlight through should the clouds move away. The blanket of darkness, however, did not move but remained in its spot with clearly no intention of lifting. Not a single bird sung a last song, nor a single cricket chirp in effort to break the silence, which was cast ominously over the whole area. Blackfoot walked to the center of the area, sniffing the air for a few moments while looking around. It appeared that the other cat was late, as there were no fresh scents in the area. He sat down in a dry spot, beginning to wash the mud of his paws in nervous wait. The only sound that could be heard was his own tongue, swiping away the brown to reveal the white of his toes. Blackfoot continued to wait, grooming each one of his paws carefully until there was no sign of the mud left. A shiver went down his spine, a light yet cold breeze passing by. He jumped when a new set of paws made its way through the area. It was a heavy cat, one built more for head-on attacks rather than sneak attacks, something that the Cats of the Whispering Wood specialized in. Blackfoot stood up and turned to face the cat who had entered the clearing.

“Shadow,” The tom began, approaching Blackfoot. “I hope you’re willing to speak today?”
“I do not refuse to speak. I warn you, however, that using my loner name will bring up suspicion within my clan.” Blackfoot answered solemnly.
“I do not reside within your clan,” The tom replied. “And if you will speak, I’m sure you have information this time around. Do you have such a thing?”
Blackfoot met the brown tabby’s eyes. “Today I do not have such a thing, nor will I for a while. The clan is not having any difficulties other than lack of cats, which I’m positive you and your group are already very aware of.”
“Of course,” The tom said. “We shall wait, then, for when you are ready to speak.” He turned around and began to walk off but stopped. “And next moon, please ensure you arrive on time.” He finished before leaving.

xxxxxBlackfoot’s way back was miserable. The woods were silent and uncomfortable to him, despite living his recent life under these very same trees. He no longer found the grass nice, but instead he found it irritating and painful. Before returning to camp, Blackfoot found and captured an unlucky mouse, one that was searching for food late at night. Carrying the mouse with him, he brought it back to the camp to work with his original excuse. The camp was silent, every cat but Blackfoot asleep. Placing the mouse on the kill pile, he made his way to his nest, curling up. It was only one moon until the next time he would have to repeat this whole day and continue doing so as long as he was forced to work with the rogues.
