Edge's Family

For as long as Edge can remember, he was always alone and never alone. He was found on the borders of a tribe's territory without a clue as to who he was or where he had come from. All any of the local viscets knew was that a tiny viscling was abandoned and in need of help. The tribe took him in and raised him as their own, but they never hid his past from him. Edge knew that none of the adults around him were his parents, and it did bother him from time to time. He wondered who his parents might have been, and why they had left him behind. The lack of answers was impossible to ignore, but with time, he grew to accept it. By chance or by choice, Edge's parents were not part of the picture, but he had something even better. All along, Edge was surrounded by viscets who cared about him when they had no incentive to do so. Everyone who had ever been kind to him was kind because they wanted to be, not because it was what one must do for their son. The older Edge grew, the more he came appreciate his friends. In fact, he now refers to them as brothers, sisters, and siblings whenever they come up in conversation, which is frequent, given how much he prioritizes them in his life.
Better yet, Edge has also realized that he does not need to go without biological ties. Upon reaching adulthood, he began to dream of of falling in love with a charming viscet and having visclings of his very own. Edge hopes to become a father one day, and is even quite open to adopting if he ends up with a male partner. For him, passing on the love and acceptance he received when he was young is more important than mere genetics.

The Nature of Edge

The first thing anyone would say about Edge is that he loves his family. Almost everything he does, he does with his family in mind. He always considers their needs and desires when making decisions, and has made personal sacrifices on several occasions when his own desires conflict with a family member's. However, all of his thought and care is not so easily appreciated.
Edge is also terribly stubborn and controlling. He is the sort of viscet who tends to decide what is best for others without actually listening to what they think is best for themselves. Worries for loved ones' safety turn into over-protection, and a preference for traditions makes him slow to accept novel ideas. As much as Edge wants to be supportive, he struggles with a rigid attitude that makes it difficult to do so.
All of this concern for others and fixation on trying to force situations to be more like how he thinks they should be makes for a very stressful lifestyle. Edge is easily overwhelmed by conflict. It does not take very much pushing to transform him from a confident authority to a frustrated pushover. Fortunately for those around him, Edge is not prone to fits of rage, but he does still react. Instead, his chosen method of dealing with conflict is to grow exasperated, complain about the situation, and walk away to sulk, leaving whoever he was arguing with to go about their business without him.

Edge, the Actor

Family might come first for Edge, but his second love is acting. The change to break free from a mundane, routine life and become someone else was what first inspired him. Perhaps it was an indirect way to break free from his heavily self-sacrificial tendencies. As a young viscling, Edge's favorite games were always ones of pretend. At times, he was a famous explorer or a legendary hero. On other occasions, he played at domestic roles, like father- or siblinghood. The more Edge played pretend, the more he loved it, and the more he realized he loved it for very different reasons than he initially thought. The smiles on his friends' faces when he transformed in an instant into the perfect character for an adventure were infectious. Watching them have fun was even better than having fun himself.
As Edge grew older, he continued playing pretend. He started writing his skits and getting his friends to join him in humble performances for their families. They were clumsy at first, but each attempt got better and better, until Edge started to realize just how popular he was becoming. More and more viscets arrived to watch his performances, and he even started receiving requests. Eventually, the local tribesviscets started offering Edge food, tools, and other goods in exchange for a special birthday skit or evening play. Now, this is how Edge makes a living. He has started to consider travelling to other tribes to perform as well, but hesitates to incorporate overnight travel into his likelihood, seeing as it would take away from his time to spend with loved ones.
