happy holidays everyone!! it's taken me many days to finally be able to finish these kiddos, and I'm actually quite proud of how they've turned out! no I didn't actually spend 9 hours on these, I just left it open a lot

these all have individual competitions! please, please ask me if you need help or clarification. I want everyone to be able to do their best. these will all end on January 18th at 11pm EST. hopefully that's plenty of time to work. you may pretty up as you please on all of these.

you may enter for a maximum of two, and you have the potential to win both.

reinbear [#1] - curly fur, mantle/mane, stubby tail, special antlers, heart pupils

This cutie looks a little moonstruck. When they're feeling under the weather, what's their one true love (or loves) that keep them together? You have 300 words to answer the original prompt, but there are also two available extras! You can either write an additional 500 words for each extra, make two art pieces, or make any combo with the two available bonuses. Or, ask me if you want to do something different.

tell us an adventure they've had in the place they live!:
Norman meets his cat-adopted-brother-thing in Manhattan.

e

for snowy owl [#2]- "the fated encounter"

Manhattan, NY, year 1931

It was on the dispassionately stone-cold concrete hidden under the eerie shade of a Manhattan alleyway, where the smokey and pungent cigars left behind by man were littered atop the grunged concrete, that Norman lay, feeling seldom but the forlorness and dampness of the hoary, senescent dull grey cement beneath him.

Scattered about in the alley were rotting wooden boxes, and the meek feathered dinoken crouched behind one stack, as to shield himself from the cold autumn wind.

The poor creature was physically callow, and thus unable to sustain himself since he'd been cast aside not long before. But in spite of danger and hardship, Norman was still alive, his heartbeat ringing in his ear through a feathery coat while he rested in a curl, the little warmth he possessed coursing throughout his body.

Norman was flightless, but his small wings still provided him with cover and heat. It was under this fragile and temporary blanket of shelter that he began to fall asleep, shutting his bright amber eyes that, in the lacklustre urban setting, seemed to glow almost as vibrantly as the mysterious orange halo shadowing his head every move.

But in the dicey and treacherous city, his slumber wouldn't last; hidden, or so he believed, in the dark and eldritch alleyway, Norman had not rested for half a dozen minutes when a series of mildly loud noises took him by surprise. The dinoken jumped awake, presuming a defensive position and listening cannily.

The shuffling and scratching sounds grew louder and louder. However, Norman became quite plainly more curious than afraid with little time. He traced the noise to one of the wooden boxes sitting in the damp and cold alley. On one side, it read in mottled green ink, 'ONE POUND, YANKEE BRAND, GLOUCESTER MASS FISH.' He surveyed the printed text, and with the tip of his sturdy beak, Norman raised the top side open.

Just as he peered into the shady interior of the old box, a sleek, svelte figure popped its black, fuzzy head from the opening, ears upright and pointed straight upwards to the clouded, grey skies above lower Manhattan. Its twisted white whiskers strayed from a small mouth, gripping the remains of a boney and thin fish.

The stranger dropped the fish and jumped out of the box, landing immaculately on the cement before Norman. He stood still; though Norman was disconcerted, he did his best not to show it as the slender tuxedo cat circled him, its green eyes flourishing mischief.

The cat licked its lips, shortly revealing a mouth full of sharp white teeth, and when it leaned in forward, Norman closed his eyes and shuddered. Now he was convinced, he was going to die.

But instead of lashing a bite to the tender, exposed neck of a petrified Norman, the cat only projected in a loud voice,
"Hey, Wheat! What's your story?"
Timidly, Norman faced his confronter, but he did not respond.

The cat glanced up and down at Norman again and cackled.
"Well, what business does a crumb like you have in the back of a speakeasy?"
The cat took a seat beside Norman, purring and intertwining its tail with his. Still Norman wouldn't talk, astonished by how the situation had escalated so fast.

"So you're a shy face, I get it."
The strange feline huffed and turned to face Norman again.
"My name is William. William Boursaw is what they call me."
William extended a paw, offering a shake of hands.
"Slip me five, and tell me your name."
With ruffled feathers, Norman stood straight and reached for William's white paw with his wing, but retracted it embarrassingly.
"Well, I'm Norman."
He uttered, and William opened his mouth to speak again.
"Norman? I'm still gonna call you Wheat. It fits you better."
William teased, and Norman continued.
"Afraid this pitiable wing won't do you a very good handshake at all."
He sighed, but William still took his wing and gave it a firm shake.

"Sure, your wings must be fantastic for gliding! I always wished I could see New York from the skies." He reassured Norman, motioning his arm across the vast city sky, growing darker with every minute and unveiling a vast banquet of nighttime lights.

"Oh please, I don't even fly." Norman admitted with mortification.

The cat sat down again at the side of his new acquaintance, whom was in heavy ignominy with himself. The two of them stared ahead silently for a moment.
"By god, it's going to be dark!"
William exclaimed, rupturing the brief quietness when only the low hum of passing cars was present. He urged Norman up and gave him another nudge to the exit of the alleyway.
"You should hurry on home to your folks now, before trouble finds you."
Norman hesitated to leave the side of William and instead pondered, twisting his head in confusion.
"Folks?"
He queried at once, puzzled with unfamilar word.

William gave a frown at this; he was reminded how busy and cruel living life alone in the city was for him, and of how he fended for himself as a kitten, because his own mother hadn't cared enough to hunt for and tend to the basic needs of he and his siblings. It was with a heavy heart he enunciated,
"You don't have a family, do you?"
Norman shook his head no, slowly with sorrow. William nuzzled him gently in solacing.
"See, neither do I."
He admitted in a low whisper. Manhattan was now consumed by dark, except for the glow exhibited from cars and windows.

"But you know what?"
William perked himself up.
"You can stay with me, even if it's just for now."
He grinned softly, and Norman returned his gaze with gratitude.
"You'd do that for me?"
He inquired with a sparkle in his eyes.
"Of course, anything for my new man Wheat."
William replied before bounding enthusiastically to the rooftop.
"Come with me and we'll fetch you some supper!"
Excitedly, Norman followed his new found friend's lead, the unlikely pair striding off into the restless cityscape, racing throughout the distinctive and magnificent sights of nighttime New York.

(End.)

note: so I fell a bit (a LOT) short due to my ever-growing word count! this story will have to be carried out in two parts if I am to win the snowy owl. My idea was that flightless ol Norman never had a home until he met William. The two feed from the back of a pseudo-bavarian diner for a while until a dog threatens their lives, and Norman finally learns to fly/glide (with William on his back, too) when they are being pursued on a high rooftop and Norman is forced to jump. Then they settle on the side of a tall Cathedral where they lived safely together from then on.

floss is a "loose thread" type of ken. they're very chill, laid-back and doesn't really make much of a deal out of anything. they spend most of their time sleeping somewhere warm.

floss rarely is affected by trivial things. but when they're falling apart and unraveling, they turn to their friends to lean on. when floss's friends are by their side, in all corny-ness, they feel truly invincible. they love hanging out with winter, even though he's a bit narcissistic, he's honest and genuinely loyal. he also enjoys the company of lamp, they're more energetic then floss, going around causing mischief. but they always encourage floss to interact with people rather then staying home all day..

This cutie looks a little moonstruck. When they're
feeling under the weather, what's their one true love
(or loves) that keep them together? You have 300 words
to answer the original prompt, but there are also two
available extras! You can either write an additional 500
words for each extra, make two art pieces, or make
any combo with the two available bonuses. Or, ask me
if you want to do something different.

What keeps them together? wrote:Her one true love is a small, sweet little ken named
Car', who they live with and love with all their heart.
When she's feeling down, she'll snuggle into their small,
simple nest, stuffed as tight as possible with fluff, curl
up to Car', and wrap her wings around him before just
spilling all her woes, relaxing as they listened and nod-
ded along softly. After what felt like hours (and, honestly,
probably was), she'd softly peck them on the cheek,
squeeze them one last time, and head off to get them a
nice batch of fish to eat and enjoy while they rested.
[104/300 Words (MAX)]

Extras wrote:Up to 500 words each one art piece (two total).

What kinds of outfits does this fluffy friend wear?
Create at least one accessory for them that they can be
seen with all the time. You can draw it or describe it in
300 words. You also have 150 words to explain why
it's special to them.

Draw or Describe their favorite accessory/ies wrote:They've always enjoyed wearing a simple, black little
fedora, with a blood red ribbon wrapped around the part
that rested around the top of their head, just to keep it
tight enough not to fly off in the cold, wintery air that
always seemed to blow where they lived.
[49/300 words (MAX) or a drawing]

Why is it so significant? wrote:To them, it's an homage to their mother, a bright, smart
ken that, when they were little, got lost and froze out in
the forest while she was hunting for food. The hat was one
she had given them that use to cover their head entirely,
which she'd put on to block their eyes from the freezing
cold. And the ribbon is the same color her old jacket was,
the one she ended up losing to the winds on her hunt.
[81/150 words (MAX)]

She jumped up and shocked the snow off of herself. “S-Soo cold..” hedwig said as she snuggle closer to the wood. I think i’ll Go in the forest today, she thought as she ate a dead mouse. She stretched her wings and flew among the tree tops, seeing all the almost perfect snowflakes and the winter wonderland. She swooped I the forest As she saw the children playing in the beautiful snow. She swooped down and perched on a branch, she glanced around then ate a honey filled pine cone. She gave a quick sneeze and continued in the woods. She was flying and something got her eye. It was something glowing bright blue. She swooped down as looked at it, it was a bright shining gem. She stared at it then picked it up. She was going to bring it back to her tree hollow but something told her not to. She swooped back, but before leaving she fell to the ground. She looked at the glowing gem, it was gone. The ground pulled her in as the trees seemed to disappear. She was pulled to the ground, but when she got their it was like a secret lair. She loves it! She looked around and grabbed all the food she could! She got out a small whole and traced her way back home.

for yeti [#5]
username: Nedbit
name: Cole
gender: Male

Extra information:
Sexuality: Demisexual
Disorders if any?: Social Anxiety Disorder
Due to Cole’s lack of good treatment and being bullied and disliked by others around him, he has major social anxiety. He fears being embarrassed in front of a crowd, and just fears crowds in general. Interacting is not a strong suit either.
Hobbies: Writing and film making/script making.
Pet peeves: Know-it-alls, being compared to people.
Likes: Writing, food, films/movies, books, tea, drama, his beanie.
Dislikes: Sharing food, interacting, social things, big crowds.
Image

Cole was born in the southern part of England, in a small tree off the village side. His mother and father both had their own mates and dinoken children, and they both hated each other's guts, so Cole was, most unfortunately, born by mistake. Because of this, Cole obviously had a tough childhood. He was teased a lot by other dinokens, hated by humans (which he honestly didn’t mind..) but worst of all, Cole was constantly disregarded by his parents. They could care less about where he slept, what he ate, or what he was doing. The only days they actually paid attention to him were his birthdays, but even then they constantly fought over his attention. Cole didn’t really mind it, as he always repeated the same thing in his head second of everyday..”They love me, just don’t know how to show it.”
Typically as you’d expect, Cole had a big family. His dad’s side, which consisted of a different female mate and 1 child, and his mom’s side who consisted of a female mate and 2 children. His dad’s side all loved him (besides his father), especially the single child they had. His mom’s side on the other hand, didn’t really care for him besides his mother’s mate. She hated when he was neglected, and usually would sneak some food out to him, and teach him about things a mother should. As for a father figure, Cole didn’t have one sadly, but he knew he didn’t need one. Friends were limited, as he only talked to his step sibling on his father’s side of the family, and everyone else thought he was a freak. Cole usually nested on the northside of the small human town, as it was near to always deserted. Everyone knew he lived on that side, so they tended to stray away of there, which he didn’t mind. Cole inspired to be a writer as soon as he discovered a typewriter. It distracts him and gives him freedom to make up a fantasy world for him and only him. One day, a mysterious dinoken walked towards him and told Cole to come with him. Cole hesitated and knew that this was the guy that took young dinokens to a station where they could get help. Cole thought to himself I don’t need help and ran away from the dinoken. The mysterious man eventually caught up to Cole and brought him in by force, taking in the bites from Cole that he was using to try and get loose from the dinoken’s winged grasp. Cole was put into a small grey room, with a different dinoken…
Here’s what happened.

READER X COLE
Y/L/N = Your Last Name
Y/N = Your Name

Image

“Cole, right?” You said to the dinoken on the other side of the table. Cole was hunched over and obviously upset that he was brought in. “Yeah.” he mumbled bitterly. Weird you thought, most kids want to be brought in, to get help. You hummed lightly to fill the silence then continued. “Ahem.. Hi Cole. My name is agent Y/L/N.” You said gently. Cole merely nodded. Tough kid. “I’m sure you don’t know why your here, as I hear you tried to run away, so let me-”
Cole interrupted you.
“I know why I’m here. You’re the people that give dinokens that were “Born on the wrong side of the tracks” help. Well, for your information, I don’t need your help, I’ve been doing just fine on my own.” Cole huffed angrily. You sighed. “Cole, I’m afraid that’s not how it works. Your parents obviously don’t have the time to care for you,” Cole looked like he was going to interrupt, so you hurried your small explanation “And we are here to help with that. We can get you your own guardians, that can care for you!” You exclaimed happily. Cole grumbled.
“No thanks. It's a tough pass on my part. I get it's your job and everything, but I’ve gotten this far without anyone, so I think I’ll be good.”
At this, you lost a small bit of your patients. “Alright kid, I don’t think you get how much that CAN’T happen. Most of the humans here don’t seem to like us, meaning you could get in a dangerous situation, and not be able to get out.” you rambled on. Cole sighed and you quickly changed the subject. “Uh… where did you get that beanie?” You asked curiously.
Cole flinched slightly, but quickly recovered and started to mumble something. “Pardon?” You asked, trying to be ever so polite. Cole huffed and tried again.
“It was a present from my dad on my birthday, you know, the only day they actually pay attention to me, as their son?” Your mouth gaped slightly, but Cole ignored it and continued. “They were both trying to “win” my attention when my dad gave me this beanie, and deemed it lucky. Its stupid that it means so much to me, but-” Cole paused when he saw the look on your face. “I dunno..” he mumbled.
You both sat there for a few moments, when finally Cole asked “Can I go now or…?” You were shocked. Most dinokens his age that you have interacted with didn’t know why their parents neglected them, or “went away”, but this kid seemed to know his stuff. You hastily shut your mouth and nodded, eyes still wide open with aftershock. Cole got up from the chair he was seated in, and went for the door. He opened it, but glanced back at you. In his gaze, very deeply in his gaze, you could see the slightest bit of sadness.
Then, he walked out.
~~
Image

Ever since that meeting, Cole made sure not to cross paths with anyone he didn’t know, and made sure to practice his running. Currently, Cole is a writer for a newspaper in his town, and the relationship with his father has gotten better. His mother and her family on the other hand, left town and never got in contact. Cole’s father is proud of him and where he is in life, which makes Cole very happy. Cole currently has no mate but has made many acquaintances with dinokens across the town. He has come to the realization that he is demisexual, since unfortunately, he has major trust issues. Cole lives with his family on the northside, and couldn’t be happier.
