Cherryfangs' most cherished memory is one she despised for a long time. She felt her mother was a liar, and that her father would never abandon them. She was blinded by her love; as she was for many years. It wasn't until her own heartbreak she realized what the promise she made had meant. Cherrypaw became Cherryfang - and now? it was her turn to hurt.
Prompt:
"Where's papa?" Cherrypaw murmured with curiosity, following her mother like a lost puppy.
"I told you Cher, he's gone on a patrol mission" Her mother reiterated, annoyance clear in her voice to anyone besides the child.
"But --" She whined, sprinting in front of her and stopping the older molly in her tracks. "He's been gone for two days! Something is wrong, I can feel it and no one cares -- "
"He's gone Cherry! He's gone and he's not coming back!" She had broken now, screaming in the face of her youngest child.
"What do you mean?" Cherrypaw squeaked, eyes becoming misty with emotion.
"Are you that oblivious?" Her mother slumped to her knees, head hanging low as her body trembled.
"Momma? Momma please, just tell me what's going on" The apprenticed begged, crawling next to the shaking lump and nudging it softly with her muzzle.
"You are too innocent, darling" Mom coo'd, finally raising her head to look at her only daughter. "Your father wasn't the man you thought he was; none of them are. They can't be trusted, the lot of them" her words were poison that only clouded the young mollies mind. "Promise me my cherry, promise me you won't be like me. Don't let them hurt you" it was her time to plead now, staring wildly into her daughters' eyes.
Cherry was crying alongside her mother now, their tears mixing in a puddle at their paws. "Okay momma, I promise" she whispered to her with a hesitant nod.

Cat Name: bloomscatter
Clan: prairieclan
Rank: medicine cat
Gender: Female
Age: 37 moons
Prompt: 744 words
“Warm little ears,
Now go to sleep
Don’t worry now,
My little, little -uh- sheep -“
The malnourished she-cat paused in her song, trying to think of something that rhymed with sleep. She had snuggled her two kits closer to her as the winter storm raged around them. Her mate, Crio, had gone out in search of food and then the storm had come along. Petal wrapped her tail tighter around her kits as the barn door slammed open then shut in the wind, a thick draft of cold air whirling through the barn like an angry creature, searching for its next wintery victim.
A voice murmured underneath her tail, it was scratchy with sleep, and dreary with tiredness, “Keep goin’ mama.” It was Bloom, one of her last two kits who had survived the winter so far. Bloom was a tough molly, who had been able to hide successfully from winter’s wrath.
Bloom snuggled closer into her mother’s belly as Petal started singing again, her purring melting into the sound of her mother’s crooning. She wiggled her feet again, snuggling tighter into her mother’s fur, trying to latch onto as much heat as possible. Petal would willingly give away all of her strength, and warmth, and comfort, just so her two kittens could survive the harsh winter.
Petal felt herself trying not to laugh at her ridiculous song she was making up, in an effort to try and distract the kits from the outside world. She was singing about sheep and bleating and baaing and all sorts of things that only would comfort a kit who would be barely old enough to remember anything.
Bloom cuddled in closer and closer as the barn door opened and Crio walked in. In his jaws was the scrawniest mouse Petal had ever seen. Bloom looked up at her mother who had tried to wipe the look of disappointment off her face. The small kit sat up when Crio got closer, “Hey dada.” She said, as he smiled at her.
He dropped the mouse in front of the small nest, “Hello pretty Bloom. Your sister Flower sleeping?” He asked, his thick winter coat dripping with snow. He tried to keep a step away so none of the cold water would drip onto his mate and kits. His dull blue eyes glanced at his second surviving kit, Flower, who he honestly believed wouldn’t last the winter. Crio tried his best not to think such thoughts, but she was getting smaller and smaller and was struggling to even walk.
Petal lifted her head up and took the mouse from Crio, “Thank you. Split it?” Crio just shook his head.
“No. No. You and Bloom split it,” He said, while Petal worriedly glanced him over, wishing she could see how skinny he actually was. She honestly couldn’t remember a time when he’d actually eaten in the past couple of months. Bloom glanced between her mother and father before purring loudly.
“Thanks dada!” She took a big bite, filling her belly with all that was there. She, in her kitten innocence loved her life. Where it was spent with just the four of them inside the barn waiting out the winter. She never fully understood what was going on, or how dire the food situation was with her parents.
When looking back in time, Bloomscatter realized, with age, how much her mother and her father must have been suffering to keep her and Flower alive. And then just her when Flower passed away. They had hunted all the mice in the barn making Crio go out and find mice on. Petal wanted to come with him, but the kits would freeze without her body heat. It was a horrendous situation all together.
But Bloomscatter looked back on it fondly, despite everything. Every night her father would tell her a story about the outside world because she wasn’t allowed to go out yet. Then her mother would sing songs about everything and anything and she’d fall asleep warm, cuddled right between her mother and father.
Even though she understood the tragedy of the situation, Bloomscatter knew herself enough to love the simple moments that came together when the family was curled in the barn late at night. Her fondest memory being the conversations and the great laughter that the simple family time brought to her childhood, and especially when she finally understood how hard her parents worked to make sure she never suffered.

I love the fact that she's older in the memory, showing that you can make fond ones even as you grow up. And the otter! What a fun relationship. Go ahead and give me any changes to the info and I'll update the main post.
