What do they do to keep warm? [500 words OR 1 art piece]: Autumn loves to curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and a fluffy blanket. Her scarf is a help as well and she sometimes hooks part of it over her head like a hood. There, she surfs the web, reads a good book, or watches Disney movies. Her favorites being Pocahontas and The Fox and the Hound. She is also very much into fashion and making clothing so she might make a cool, cold weather outfit to help her stay warm. Trench coats are in this year! What about a trench coat parka hybrid? With fur hood lining? That would be so warm and cozy! (111/500 words)

What do they do to keep warm?:

Karla spun around the small room with a wooden spoon, humming a tune. She spun and twirled all around her one room hut in the woods. The windows were open and allowed the blissful autumn breeze to brush in her fur. She danced and danced, but now with the wind as her partner.

The air filled with cinnamon. The small pot sitting on the stove had started to whistle a tune that matched Karla's. She bounced away from her windy partner to check on the singing pot. She lifted the lid to the pan and a sweet and spicy aroma filled the air. She took a deep breath of the warm air and just held it there. Cinnamon and apple roamed through her body, filling her entire being with the warmth of 10,00 hugs. As she released her breath back into the room, her body felt colder. She nodded to the pot, as if the pot would tip its lid to her as well.

Karla pulled all the mugs out of her cupboard. Some were tall and skinny while others were short and stout. She loved them all though; they were her babies. She slipped her two red potholders on her small nimble paws. They were lined with fleece from a sweet lamb just down the path. The pot holders wrapped around the sweet and spicy smelling drink. Karla lifted it and poured just the perfect amount into every mug she could find in her small home. The aroma explored the air, filling her nose with the warmth of all those hugs.

In the highest up cabinet there was a small collection of cinnamon sticks and candied orange and apple peels. Karla climbed the counter to reach her collection and pulled them down. They were still in the woven basket that Karla had made the fall before this one. She sifted through her collection and put a single stick in each cup along with a few candied peels. The plop of each peel was a cute noise and Karla couldn't help but giggle every time. She set the basket down and made sure every cup was blessed with a stick and some peels. She nodded then reached in the low cupboard below her stove to grab a silver platter with handles. The cups were moved onto the platter.

She swung her door open and all her friends and neighbors were there to greet her smiling face. She motioned for everyone there to grab a cup. They cheered. The three mice from down the lane sipped on their cups slow while the two lambs had downed their sweet drink in one gulp. Karla had handed out all of the mugs and just felt this great warmth inside of her. Everyone who had come to vist her wore a smile proudly on her face. The drink she made may had warmed her insides, but the happiness of her friends, that warmed her soul. This was better than 10,000 hugs.
