It was peacefully silent in the dark, and cozy warm. A young Kalon was sleeping silently, a smile on her face, lost in a dream. Nothing was could ruin this lovely day. Actually, a phone could. A sharp ringing cut through the silence, waking the Kalon up. Startled, the Kalon rolled off her bed, struggling to sit up. A fuzzy head popped up from the mass of dark blankets, and a paw grabbed the ringing phone.
"H-hello? Bitsy, Teddy, what have I told you!? I'm not going outside, it's too cold!!" She angrily yelled through the phone. "Alright then, Patches, we'll leave you alone," her friends voice echoed through the phone, before hanging up. Patches was surprised. All month, her friends had bugged her to come play outside. She had said no each time, as she hated the cold. The fluffy Kalon's plan was to sleep all through Winter, only getting up to make food, or turn on the TV.
Sighing with happiness, the Kalon got up, went to the kitchen, and made herself a few butter tarts. When the tarts were ready, she put them on a plate and went back to bed, turned on the television, and got cozy. As she was in the middle of watching her favourite show, 'Exotic Kalon Homes' a knocking sound came from the door. She tried to ignore it, but they kept knocking. "Would you stop knocking and leave! I'm not interested in buying cookies today!" Thankfully, the knocking ceased after that. Patches continued to happily watch television, and was almost at the new house reveal part when the signal cut out. She let out a sigh of distress, got up, spilling her leftover tarts on the floor to attract ants. The moody Kalon went to the door, put on her scarf, and stepped into the cold outside. As she took a few steps out, the door suddenly closed behind her. "Whats going on!?!" She yelled in anger and confusion. Suddenly, cold snow was dumped on her head, and someone knocked her to the cold ground. "H-hey!!" She called, although it was muffled by snow. Thinking fast, she rolled over in the snow, flinging her attacker off her. She thought she had won, until another attacker joined the battle! The two attackers approached her, holding something in their paws. Patches shivered, not because of the cold but of fear. She was done for! The attackers threw the ammo, and blam! Snowballs exploded on Patches fur, surprising her. "Snowballs...?" Patches muttered, deciding to make a quick few of her own. The battle was on. The two attackers were overthrown by snowballs, and landed in the snow. Patches gasped as she realized that these were her friends, Bitsy and Teddy!
"What are you two doing here, playing this silly prank?" She asked, confused.
"Having fun in December, of course! Look at you, Patches! You had fun, and you're outside!" Her friends explained.
Patches looked down at herself, as she was knee-deep in snow. Oh. (500 words)

(Note: Bitsy and Teddy are completely made up, because I currently don't own any kalons)

Fajra woke up, magnificent light shining in through the windows. She jumped up excitedly and peeked out the window.

Yes!

A white blanket of snow covered the ground, and more was still falling. It was freezing outside.
The first snow meant Fajra's first blanket fort of the season!

She pranced down to her cozy living room, picking up all the blankets she could along the way.
She tucked the first end of the first blanket under a couch cushion, and closed the other end in a nearby drawer. She layered the blankets up, placing a bunch of ends in different cushions and more ends in different drawers.
She layered 14 blankets total.

She then grabbed 23 other blankets and 7 pillows, and arranged them nicely under the layered blankets. Smiling, Fajra danced her way to the kitchen to make some hot chocolate and to grab a few candy canes.

Fajra sat amongst the pillows and blankets, sipping her hot cocoa and munching her candy.
After taking the time to admire the snow and her wonderful fort, she turned on the tv, and put on her favorite Harry Potter movie. She picked up her book and followed along as best she could with the movie, analyzing which scenes weren't in the movie and which ones had been changed.

She had finished her hot cocoa and candy canes. Wrapped in a cocoon of blankets, warmth fell over Fajra, and she fell asleep.

The snow continued to fall. It rose to the point where it began to cover up Fajra's windows.

How delighted she would be when she woke up tomorrow.

The more snow, the bigger the blanket fort!

What do they do to keep warm?

as aristotle once said, “to appreciate the beauty of a snowflake, it is necessary to stand out in the cold.” naturally, as an artist, i’m in the mood to make some snowy paintings. ‘tis the season, you know! plus, collectors are much more likely to buy seasonal art than my regular old landscapes. so i gather up my art supplies - canvases and all - and march out into my backyard, determined. goodness, it’s cold - but i have to really feel the weather so that it shows through in my art. a little snowflake lands on my canvas. it melts before i can tell what it looks like. i dip the tip of my brush in the smoky-blue paint and make some large strokes to imitate the pale gray sky. i lightly tap some white paint on top to make some small clouds. i use my fine brush to make tiny snowflakes. rather boring snowflakes, to be honest. they’re just little dots. another snowflake lands on my canvas, and this time i see what it looks like- it has 6 arms, and 4 smaller arms branching off of those. i try my best to capture the snowflake, and nod in approval at my work. but of course, i can’t just have one special snowflake. this is going to take a long, long time.

“...and this piece was made by local artist louise romero! this marvelous painting doesn’t seem like anything special at first, but if you look closely, you’ll see that each snowflake is meticulously detailed!” my hands were trembling as i stood next to the announcer, waiting to see what offers my painting brought in. the bidders were all squinting at my painting, some pointing out a particular snowflake that they liked. “louise, do you have anything to say about your painting?” i opened my mouth to speak and was silent for a moment, then took the microphone. “if you look even closer, you’ll see that no two snowflakes are the same,” i said, trying to keep my voice from shaking. “i took my inspiration right from nature. each of these snowflakes are alike to a snowflake that i saw while painting the piece.” i abruptly handed the microphone back to the announcer.

guess what? i got an amazing offer on my painting today! i’m absolutely delighted. it’s almost 3 times the amount that i usually get! maybe i’ll buy a nice scarf...
