"You lost.....you lost the kittens?" Rosestorm questioned calmly, the gravity of the situation slowly processing. "HOW DO YOU LOOSE THREE ENTIRE KITTENS?" she nearly shouted the younger mollies ears off, but instead settled on a half-whisper half-scream as to not alert Dusty, let alone Ash.
"It's easier than you think..." Doveshiver trailed off, head and tail low in shame.
"Alright alright, I don't doubt that - those littles are nightmares. Just tell me exactly what happened" The warrior sat down, wrapping her tail around her paws.
"Well, this morning they asked if we could go to the blossom pool. I know Ash said to stay in camp but it's not that far, I thought it would be fine. So I packed some extra food and we went over. They played for a bit, I kept an eye on them as they swam and played on the rocks. Littleswift did have a small accident, she slipped while playing under the waterfall but it was okay. I jumped in and got her, no injuries." Doveshiver began explaining, rambling on. The many different inflections in her voice amused Rosestorm.
"So, off to a great start. You're a lovely queen, overly helpful and worried - got it." She nodded along, smirking at the blush that rose on the younger mollies cheeks.
"You know Littlehawk, he's desperate to prove himself sense he has that crush on Ash. They came up with this elaborate plan - Littleswift and Littledaisy distracted me with cuteness! Daisy asked me to teach her how to make flowercrowns using the lilies and water reeds. Then Swift was asking all these questions about if I ever wanted kittens and if I had a boyfriend. Hawk must've run off then" She sighed heavily, wiping the sweat from her forehead with the back of her paw.
"You're saying you were outsmarted by littles?" Rosestorm snickered, trying to hide her obvious enjoyment of the entire scenario. "So you lost Hawk, how did you loose two others?" She questioned again.
"Hey! I wasn't outsmarted!" Doveshiver pouted, glancing down to her paws in embarrassment. "I just had too much faith in them, that's all. Well when I was making Daisy a flowercrown, Swift disappeared. Then Daisy and I went to go looking for them, and I turn my back for five seconds and she's gone! I panicked and ran around looking for them and that's when I thought to come to you" She looked up, a hopeful glint in her eyes.
"I don't even like littles, why am I going to be helpful?" Rosestorm tilted her head.
"Well, you're a very strong warrior. I think they followed the river into the chaos woods. I was hoping you would join me in looking for them and slay any danger that pops up" She beamed, brushing her tail against the older she cat. She knew Rosestorm was a bit arrogant, if she could butter her up enough she would have to help.
"You think just me and you can go into the woods alone? We'd need a whole party. We have to go Ash, she'll understand" She scolded, but still nuzzled the scared mollies cheek in comfort.
"Do we have to tell Ash? She's...." Doveshiver whined, closing her eyes tightly and letting out a heavy sigh.
"She's not as scary as she seems, trust me" Rosestorm smirked, a hidden truth behind her flirtatious and snarky words.
"Come on then, if I'm going to be murdered I guess it's alright if it's Ash" Doveshiver stood up bravely, though her steps did falter as the pair trotted back to camp.
"Hey Dustboy, where's Ash?" Rosestorm called to the chief, who rolled his eyes at the young warrior. The grey tom rolled onto his stomach, eyeing the two.
"She's by the blossompools" He responded, resting his head on his paws as they ventured back to where this mess began.
"What's she doing at the pools?" Doveshiver pondered, leading the warrior to the beauty that was the waterfall and lake. The tense silence was broken by laughter, Ashes and someone else's.
The two crouched down, hidden in the reeds surrounding the body of water. There they saw Hawk, Swift, Daisy, and Ash enjoying the beautiful day. Hawk was desperately trying to make a flowercrown for Ash, while Daisy teased him. Swift, being a better sister, was trying to teach her hopeless romantic of a brother.
Doveshiver smiled at the scene, of seeing Ash in a relaxed state and seeing that the littles were safe and sound.
"Heya' Ash" Rosestorm slid from the reeds, a charming smile on her lips as she neared the beautiful second in command. Doveshiver scuttled after her, smiling awkwardly.
"Ah, Good afternoon Rose, Dove" She dipped her head in respects to the other she cats. "I was just asking the littles how they liked Doveshiver as a queen, why don't you tell Dove what you said?" The second in command looked down to the littles, who had now gathered at their feet.
"She's really sweet, and helpful. She even taught us how to make crowns" Daisy smiled innocently.
"I slipped and fell into the water and she dived in and saved me. She's like a hero!" Swift bounced up and down excitedly.
"She's no where near as beautiful as you Ash" Hawk purred, nuzzling into the older she cats leg. "But I wouldn't want anyone else to be our new mother" He admitted sincerely, looking up to Doveshiver who was now holding back tears.
"Oh" Doveshiver squeaked, her chest swelling with happiness. "Oh, my littles, I love you so much" She coo'd as the kittens cuddling up to her.
"Those kittens are going to be a nightmare when they get older" Rosestorm muttered with an eye roll.
"Perhaps, but they'll be my little nightmares" Doveshiver giggled, giving each kitten a kiss on the head before they ran back into the pools to play.
