Day Two Objectives
{Daily - Optional - Tale}

#08 was the first silver I saw.

• Write a Tale (100-1000 Words)
    Morning of the Big Event

Before the sun awoke, there were the birds. Chirping, tweeting, and singing of early birds ring out over the valley. The sweet melody of songbirds was the first sign of a new morning. The second sign was the soft, delicate rays of pink and orange streaming the dawning skyline. As the sun rose from its slumber, it’s light stretched forth to awaken the rest of creation. The beams had finally reached far enough to settle on a rich mahogany stallion. His slumbering figure unknowingly basked in the warmth seeping through the gated window of his stable. A grin formed on his soft muzzle as his conscious slowly stirred from its rest, his eyes fluttering open. Finally seeing the day had begun without him he lifted his head to admire the stunning view of the sunrise.
I’ll never tire of this sight... After another moment he gently shook his head. But it’s about time I get up for the day.
He rocked in a way to get his feet under him then quickly stood up. First, he shook out his silvered mane followed by a soft flick of his equally silvered tail. His strong flank quivered for a second as if waking the muscles beneath. The draft stallion stood at his full height- a sturdy eighteen hands tall. At the sound of boot steps, his ears twitched. A man approached the stall door with a smile on his face.
“Good morning, Drake. You’re up nice and early this morning. Ready for the big competition today?”
The response the worker received was a short snort of disinterest to which he chuckled.
“I don’t blame you. I don’t know how you stand it. Despite your apathy, you always seem to pull through in the end. You’re a natural talent for this sort of thing.”
Another snort followed by the sound of a hoof stomping the floor twice. The man shook his head, his smile only growing. The horse, Drake, watched the man go to the wall with all the tack hanging upon it and grab a few things.
While he wasn’t a fan of being equipped, he couldn’t deny his love of the outdoors. If he was being completely honest, he didn’t mind showing off his strength and endurance. He may not be the fastest runner or the best performer, but he had yet to be beaten at pulling loads. He reminisced about his previous winnings. His first competition was a close call. Being one of the younger drafts to be entered, the other competitors (especially the veterans) didn’t pay him much mind and overlooked him as a potential threat. A massive mistake on their part. Though he was young and wasn’t experienced, it was apparent very early into the run that he had raw talent. This young stallion was to be a strong competitor. After several more entries in contests, he became unbeatable. His winnings became hard to swallow for the previous champions; drafts that had been in this competition for years undefeated were being shown up by this rookie.
The man had grabbed all the gear he needed and returned to the stall. Drake backed up knowing the drill: he’d be cleaned up to look his best then be fitted with his tack before being led to a trailer that would take them to the match grounds. The worker set all the wearable equipment aside. After turning to grab some cleaning tools and things, he then entered the stall.
“Alright, Drake. Let’s get you all polished up.”
The stallion whinnied gleefully as the man pulled a brush out to start brushing his coat. The brush was showing wear from use, but it still got the job done. It’s soft bristles glide over his rich mahogany bay coat. The feeling seemed to leave all to soon, but was quickly refueled when his mane started being brushed. Once the tangles were removed and brushed out, the combing moved on to his tail. With the brushing finished, it was on to his least favorite part of grooming: his hooves. Gentle and precise movement from the worker made it a least palpable to handle.
There’s gotta be something I can think about to distract myself while this goes on. His thoughts quickly raced for something- anything, that could keep his mind off the dull scraping. Let me think, let me think, let’s me- ah ha!
Drake’s eyes closed as his minds eye filled with flashes of his last competition. He was so close to beating the current record of pounds pulled by a draft horse. He’s sure he can do it this time. The possibility of setting a new record was exciting. Regardless of his astounding start in the game, does it mean much off he doesn’t be the best he can’t be? To him that meant setting a new record for everyone to remember. He wanted his name to go down in history. With a little more conditioning and patience, he was bound to reach his goal.
The sound of clinking pulled him from his daydreaming. He turned to see the worker finishing up his polish on a hoof as a second man came in with the tack.
“Right on time, Logan. I was just finishing the grooming. He’s all yours now. Good luck on today so event.”
The other man, a tall and broad fellow gave a warm smile before speaking. “Thank you, Tony. Thanks again for getting Drake here all cleaned up.” He said this as he gave a sturdy pat on the stallions flank.
Drake swished his tail in response. Tony, the worker, smiled and gave a short nod as he collected all the cleaning things. “Sure thing.” He walked off to return everything to its place.
Logan approached Drake’s front to slip the halter on then began stroking his nose with affection. “You ready to get going?” A soft nicker was the response received. “Let’s get going then.” With that, Drake was then led to his trailer that would transport him to the grounds where the competition would take place.

Day Three Objectives

Day Three Objectives
{Daily - Optional - Haiku}

• Link Image of Mare and Foal

• List Full Instructions for a DIY younger children’s activity
Drive-In Movie with a Box-Car
    Things you’ll need:
    — Car (Cardboard Box: preferably large enough to fit your child in as they’ll be sitting in it)
    — Wheels and Steering wheel (Paper or Plastic Plates x5)
    — Headlights and Brakelights (Paper or Plastic Cups x4 OR just some paper cutouts x4)
    — Paint Job (Markers, Paint, Glue and Glitter, and/or Stickers to decorate)
    — Tape (preferably packing or duct variety)
    — Scissors and/or Exacto-knife
    — Glue

Prep Work (depending on how old the kids are, some steps may require adult supervision)
    — If using an exacto-knife: go ahead and tape both sides of the box shut. One one side, cut halfway along the outer edge of the taped flap.
    — If using scissors: tape one side. On the other, go ahead and cut two opposing flaps halfway so when they’re taped together at the “seam” it can be folded back.
    — After cutting the flaps, fold back the taped section to create the windshield.
    — You can either cut out a window in the windshield section or, if the child is tall enough, you can draw them on the box without cutting it.
    — Cutting out doors is optional. If you do, you can either cut an “L” to make a folding flap-like door OR cut in a “U” shape to make a shorter edge to make getting in the box easier.
    — For really young children, probably best to cut out the steering wheel beforehand.

    Directions
    1. After cutting the box, go ahead and set it aside for now.
    2. Using a plate, cut out sections to make a steering wheel. You can also decorate the steering wheel.
    3. Next: the wheels. Using the remaining four plates, color wheels on them. Or decorate them how you wish.
    4. For the lights, color either the cups or paper cutouts them how you wish. If you don’t have cups or don’t want to cutout lights, you can always draw them on the box.
    5. Now that all the parts are made, go ahead and decorate your box! Racing stripes, polka dots, or even crazy scribbles!
    6. After decorating the box: glue the wheels on the sides, glue the steering wheel to the fold under the windshield, and glue the cup/cutout lights on the front and back of the box.
    7. Your car should be complete! All that’s left is to pick a movie and “drive” to the show.

• Write a Haiku

    A sleeping stallion whimpers
    It was just a dream
