Stonetalon was a loyal warrior to his clan, DustClan. He was born and raised there, even earning his warrior name before he left. He had all he could want. Friends, family, cats who would defend each other to the death, and an almost constant abundance of prey. It was also there he met his mate. Palebird- formerly Pale Skies Over Eagle's Nest- and her family had joined their clan, once most of their tribe was destroyed. DustClan welcomed them with open arms, and Stonetalon was among the first to agree they should be helped.
Palebird was around his age, and very beautiful. She had a manner about her that was intelligent, kind and graceful, able to take care of herself, but not one who'd be proud or too independent to want a mate. Stonetalon was quick to fall in love based on these first impressions, and only a few moons had passed before they had become mates. It was only then when he learned more things about her, he didn't quite like.
Her family had settled in well, and were actually many in number. They were useful as warriors, and obeyed DustClan's laws and customs. But slowly they seemed to be gaining, almost, too much trust. Palebird kept quiet on what her family had planned, while carefully weaving Stonetalon and his kin into her plot. The two soon had kits, and Stonetalon was a devoted father to them. Then was when she began to whisper her and her family's ideas; in their old home, it was not as they had told originally. They hadn't been from a destroyed tribe, but had been exiled and labeled as ill luck. Palebird explained to him how they'd always lived, for a few generations even, under his made-up curse, treated like lesser beings due to their ancestry not being pure to their tribe, but containing blood from a former enemy tribe. They shared blood of a tyrannical leader who was practically legend, and all for it were scorned, and so the family secretly craved to, someday, if their numbers grew, rise up and overtake the current leadership.
It had failed, and they were found out, but the family would not allow themselves to be ill used by anyone again. DustClan thus became their next conquest upon finding it- they used DustClan's resources of prey and herbs to heal from the wound their former tribe had given them before being driven out. Eventually, Palebird's kin, or even Palebird herself was to rule DustClan, and even, if they could, would march upon the tribe that so angered them, and take all they had, too.
Despite this all, which Palebird broke to her mate gradually, he still love her. He loved his kits, and he loved what he had thought her to be, and, confused and shocked by her secrets, he acted not against them. She lead him to believe he could lead instead, as he could best please both families. She would be his advisor, and their kits would practically be royalty. It was so simple, and he was prepared to agree.
Until she wanted to plan an accident for the current deputy. He needed to be done away with, her family had agreed upon it. Stonetalon didn't quite realize the plan's final object until they were halfway through with it, and the deputy was already in her father's grasp. They were to stage it as a rogue attack, and Stonetalon was to have been fruitlessly trying to rescue him. Stonetalon led the deputy out that morning at his mate's request, only to find the cats awaiting to assassinate him.
However, they all were caught. Palebird's father had pinned down the deputy, and Stonetalon stood beside the family, and, when Froststar's patrol met up with them, he was seen as a traitorous warrior. Eaglefrost was rescued, and there was a battle. A few of Palebird's kin were killed. Finally, the survivors including Stonetalon and his mate, were exiled. Their kits, who were still barely two moons old, were to be kept by the clan.
Stonetalon and Palebird had to leave them behind. Now, his biggest regret was that he ever loved a cat that be barely knew, and that, is a perhaps misplaced sense of duty, he feels he must follow her to the earth.
