Jared is a nectar bat and a total sweetheart. For the longest time he used to live at the edge of the woods in a small cave, close to where the best flowers grew. He had always been incredibly pleased with his little abode, until one day the realization dawned on him that it was missing something important. Something he'd forgotten to look for in a home. Neighbors! Being nocturnal means that most other creatures head to bed the moment you get up, and several months of being on his own was much too lonely for the little bat. So one evening he set out to find some friends, traveling much deeper into the forest than he ever had before. He flew over ponds and small rivers, glades and glens, trees and bushes, searching well into the night for a suitable home with suitable neighbors. After hours and hours of searching Jared began to think his trip has been for naught, when suddenly a huge sweeping shadow loomed from out of nowhere and flew straight for him! Poor Jared squeaked with alarm and ducked into the nearest available hiding place, an abandoned woodpecker nest, where he curled against the ceiling trembling with fright. He didn't know there were monsters in the forest! For a long pause he hung there quietly, hoping he had safety escaped, when there was abruptly a scratching noise outside the nest, like sharp claws on bark. Jared chittered with trepidation as the malevolent shadow looked into the nest, blocking the exit and blotting out the moonlight. Oh no! I'm done for! He thought, shrinking back into the nest as far as he could and closing his eyes tight. He probably would have screamed for all he was worth, if it hadn't been for an inquiring "Hoo-hoo?" sound from supposed scary beast. What a strange noise for a monster to make. Jared peeled one eye open and found himself face to face with a rather concerned looking barn owl. He fell to the floor with surprise and a rather strangled sounding "oof". Oh. He thought as the two regarded each other curiously. It looks like I'm safe after all.

And that is the story of how Jared found his brand new nest, as well his best friend Max, the amiable Barn Owl!

Dolor has always been a curious fellow. Since he was just a mere babe all the other longnecks have scolded him constantly for all the wandering around he does. Even now, as a much older longneck, he can’t help but to sniff around every little thing he finds. Of course, the best way to do this is by flying around! With one swoop of his none-too-wide but durable and strong wings, he can fly over a long space and take it all in at once! This is why he is often seen flying around and swooping close to the ground even when it is too dark to see.
