Form: Acacia is a very sweet kalon, and her dream job reflects that. She loves baking, and wants to one day open a magical bakery, filled with all sorts of treats with magical qualities. By adding one special ingredient, she can make people fall in love (though she hasn’t managed to get the effects to last longer than one week), ace a test, or even make their tail fall off for around a day. (Don’t worry, it grows back!) Acacia certainly prefers the last choice, though. She’s quite the prankster, and there’s nothing more enjoyable for her than to mix things up in other people’s lives. Acacia can be serious when needed, but it’s easier said than done. She uses pranks as a coping mechanism sometimes, but usually she pranks people just because she has a lot of fun planning and executing them.
Acacia typically views pranks as an expression of affection, and most of her day-to-day pranks are small little ones for her family or friends. Azalea is a victim of many of her harmless pranks, but he’s grown to expect them.
Acacia loves Azalea more than anything. She’ll share her biggest secrets with him, and nobody else. Where Azalea is always happy, Acacia always finds something small to complain about, but she somehow doesn’t seem like a grump. She’s just a little bit of a diva.
Story: I was mad. No. I was beyond mad. How could anyone do this to me? Let alone a friend I had since elementary school.
It was just another Friday at school when I discovered a sweet note in my locker:
Dear Acacia,
I’ve always liked you. There’s something about your sea-green fur and your strong personality that’s drawn me to you.
Would you like to go out with me? We can sort out the details at lunch.

I couldn’t believe my luck! My crush, that I liked for three whole years, just asked me out!
"Helda, look!" I clutched the beloved note in my paw.
She scanned the note and broke into a grin. "That’s great, Acacia! You’ve liked him for so long, you deserve it." She paused. "I bet you’re so excited to talk to him at lunch!!"
"No kidding!!" Before I could elaborate, the bell rang, and we both went our separate ways. I walked through my classes in a daze, my heart feeling all numb and warm and fuzzy. Though I methodically pushed through all my coursework, my mind was really on him. I could hardly believe it! I wondered what he wanted to do for our first date...
Soon enough, all my daydreaming had carried me to lunch. I found Helda in the crowd of people, and ran up to her, squealing excitedly.
"What are you waiting for, girl? Go find him!" She shooed me off, and I wandered away in pursuit of my soon-to-be boyfriend.
"Ah, Calyx! There you are!" I grinned at him. "So... I got your note! When are you free to go on that date?"
A look of confusion settled over his features. "What date? I don’t recall either of us asking the other one out."
"You’re hilarious!" I laughed, and showed him the note. "You know... this date?"
"Um. I didn’t write that."
"Well then. That was awkward." I turned and walked away, wandering into the empty locker hall and pacing around. Suddenly, it occurred to me that I should probably check my locker. I never actually locked it, so it’s possible that whoever put the note in there could have dropped something important while opening it.
I approached the small, nondescript locker and opened the door. Not a book was out of place. But something glinted in the corner and caught my eye. I picked it up. It appeared to be a small heart charm, with one tiny, winking topaz set in the middle. I searched my mind, and then it occurred to me. Helda!
My closest friend. She had been my other half since elementary school. Why did she do this to me? There had to be a reason.
I couldn’t possibly confront her.
The only person I could talk to was Azalea. I sent him quick message, but before I could type more, it was time to go to fifth period. I stashed my phone in my backpack and tried to get through the rest of my classes. Thankfully, I didn’t have any with Helda. Finally, the school bell rang and provided me sweet relief. I ran out of school, trying to get to Azalea as quickly as possible.
"What’d he say?" A voice called out behind me. Helda. I turned around, the gears turning in my mind.
"Well," I stalled, "I couldn’t talk with him. He was talking to someone else and he told me to talk later. But no worries, because I put a note in his locker telling him to meet me by the ice cream shop tomorrow or text me if he couldn’t make it."
"That’s good," she smiled, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
"Hey, would you come along and spy on us? Maybe you can text me advice so I don’t mess up. I’d really appreciate it. Besides, I helped you get your girlfriend, you owe me!" Helda considered the request, and then she nodded.
"Alright, meet me there tomorrow a little before one." I gave her our customary hug, and then trotted off to my house.
I turned the key and swung open the door. "Az! Help me! This is urgent!"
"Coming!" A scuffle was heard from upstairs, but my brother finally trotted down to where I was waiting. "So what’s happening that’s so important?"
"Helda betrayed me and now I’ll never be able to date anyone ever!"
"Tell me the details, Cia."
I explained everything to him, ending with my encounter with her after school.
"Let me guess. You lured her there to prank her and get revenge? And now you want me to help?"
"You guessed it, brother dearest!"
"You know I hate doing this revenge of stuff to people, but she does deserve it. I’m in!"
We sat in my room, eating our snacks and brainstorming.
"Wait, I got it! I can ditch her, and she’ll be out of her house. Then, I’ll sneak into her house and replace her big project for school with a long analysis on the history of refrigerators."
"Won’t her parents be home? Also, how will you get into her house?"
"They both work on Saturdays. And she always leaves the side door open in case she forgets her key."
"I don’t know, Cia. It could really affect her grade. I’m not sure I want to help you."
"Alright, fine. I’ll do this myself," I huffed, stomping away to go print out a refrigerator analysis from the internet, stashing it in my closet.
After a terrible night’s sleep, I woke up around eleven and got ready. I threw on some clothes, grabbed the "project," and paced around my room, halfheartedly looking at memes to occupy myself before I headed out.
I entered her house through the side door, and quickly rooted out her backpack. I opened the English folder and swapped out the two papers. Not knowing what to do with the original project, I put it inside a kitchen cabinet between a couple cereal boxes. Nobody would find it for a while.
Then, I hightailed it out of there before she returned. I finally had my revenge. I was going to be okay.
A Week Later
"Acacia, we need to talk to you," both my parents said in unison, an ominous tone in their voices.
Oh boy. What did I do this time? The only thing that popped into my brain was my most recent prank on Helda, but they couldn’t know about that. Could they?
"We heard from Helda’s parents that someone switched out her final English project with a history of refrigerators. Helda seemed convinced that it was you, but she wouldn’t say anything further. So we combed through your computer’s search history, and sure enough, there’s evidence that you did this."
I started to shake a little with fear.
"Is there anything you’d like to say for yourself, Acacia?"
I broke down in tears. I just couldn’t hold it in anymore.
"Well, I guess I’ll have to start from the beginning." Then, I explained the whole story to my parents, starting with Helda’s betrayal, detail by brutal detail.
"Oh, Acacia. It’s not right for you to do what you did, but that must’ve been tough." I nodded. "But did you ever stop to think about what Helda was going through?"
"Going through?" I questioned in a wobbly voice, through my sniffles.
"Her parents are getting a divorce," my mom said simply. "It’s probably why she acted the way she did, to take it out on you. Maybe there would have been a change of salvaging your friendship if you had talked to her instead of trying to sabotage her English grade."
I said nothing, not sure what to think about all this. Suddenly, it all came crashing down on me. Guilt, anger at myself, and a second wave of tears. I didn’t even care what my punishment would be.
In that moment, I promised myself that I would never, ever prank anyone to hurt them again. From now on, my pranks would only be small, harmless things, little tokens of love.
