Sachiko (幸子) was a mischievous and troublesome child. She was an orphan who lived on the streets, she had to fend for herself and everyday was survival of the fittest, but she was always angry. Angry at the way things were, angry with herself, and angry at the world. She had to steal just to try to eat a bite of food to feed her weak and thin body. For all she did was take her anger out on everyone else, causing trouble and destroying everyone else's hard work and success.
Today, Sachiko was in a worse mood then usual, she was already being chased down by the guards for wrecking the village town sqaure and it was still early morning! She had barely gotten away herself, but was now hiding behind boxes of crates. She didn’t dare make a sound as guards patrolled the streets, her heart thumped in pure fear. She had pickpocketed a tourist but a silly merchant had caught her in the act and started hollering for the guards. She had to knock him out to make him shut up but it was too late. The guards had already arrived and we’re ordered to arrest her. She ended up trashing the place as she was running for her life, knocking over stands and tables which sent civilians screaming and running. She always was bad luck, but at the same time the fact that her name meant good luck child when all she did was bring disaster, seemed like a cruel joke. She laughed dryly at the irony.
She peeked out from her hiding place, coast cleared. Her eyes drifted to a bowl of rice sitting in the open not too far away from her. Someone had left it there for unknown reasons, maybe to use the bathroom or get chopsticks? Her stomach impatiently reminded her how hungry she was, when was the last time she ate? She debated on whether or not it was a good idea and eventually her stomach won. She carefully made her way through the shadows, creeping towards her prize. With a flash, she successfully snatched the bowl and returned back to her safe spot, and suddenly her day brightened with this new meal. Well food always brightened even the worst of her days. She was about to dig in when she heard a meow? She looked up to see two beady eyes in front of her. A black cat had appeared, probably from the smell of food. The idea that a black cat which was supposed to bring bad luck came amused Sachiko. She already was bad luck, it wasn't like any more bad luck would change a thing.
She was about to shoo the dreadful creature away when something in her heart seemed to change. Perhaps it was the dawn of realization that this cat was no different then her. Strange enough, not only were they both bad luck but they had to fight to live everyday. No one would accept them in this cruel world and they bothed knew it. Slowly without thinking, she scooped a handful of rice and extended her paw to the cat. The cat stood there in confusion, it wasn't used to any sort of attention. It cautiously padded up to Sachiko and started to nibble at the rice. That was an important moment for both of them, it was the start of a special bond that only two wrongs could make a right.
