Show Name: Drifting Down
Barn Name: Ashes
Adventure:
The long road up the mountain was not one many had dared to tread upon. Tales of others lost to blazing rivers of fire had deterred most travelers. Black earth crunched under his hooves as he craned his neck to catch a glimpse of the summit. He could only see a dark rim, and beyond that the bright shine of the sun. He had heard those same stories, and yet he felt drawn to the mountain; he had to overcome it. Below him, lush trees gathered around the edges of the mountain. Crumbling, blackened stumps surrounded him, and each leaned toward him, imploring him to turn back. Instead, the stallion trundled on, breathing heavily as the trail became steeper and steeper. A rumble like distant thunder reached his ears. The ground shifted and shook ever so slightly. He knew he had to be close, so he chose to ignore these signs.
Brightness blinded him momentarily as he reached the edge of the volcano's bowl. As his eyes adjusted to the light, he realized that besides the sunlight, there was a warmth radiating from down below. A vermilion and yellow soup roiled at the center of the bowl. This had to be the start of the fiery rivers he had been told about. Heat waves and deep shades of red and orange mesmerized him, until his reverie was broken by a sharp and sudden movement within the mountain. His hooves were swept to the side and he stumbled to right himself. Fear lit up in his bones as he swiveled his body to go back the way he came. His body barreled down the slope, and behind him, a blast of liquid fire split the sky in half. Barely daring to look back, he saw waves of that terribly beautiful red charging down, hot on his heels. Once he cleared the mountain itself, he burst into the forest. Right behind him, the lava engulfed everything in its path. The volcano continued to rumble as the eruptions subsided. Hot lava singed the feathering on his back hooves, causing him to whinny in surprise before picking his gallop up more.
Before long, the destruction of the volcano was complete, and the burning hot rivers cooled and solidified. He blew out a deep sigh as ashes from the newly destroyed trees drifted through the air, coating everything. He was lucky to survive, and that was all he thought of as he turned to make the long journey home.

Meaning; The word calamity means "great misfortune" or "disaster." This would be a cute name for a horse that has lived through a rough time, or for a horse that has a bit of a wild side.

Show Name: Riding Waves
Barn Name: Sailor
Adventure:

It was just sunset and the waves were insane. As the large boat tossed in thirty foot waves, all aboard shook with fear. Fear of death. Another wave rose high, higher than the others, and slammed the boat into the water. Men flew and hooves flailed. Somehow, the boat survived the rage of Poseidon. But not for long. Underneath the deck was a row of stalls. Three horses, two donkeys, and five llamas were stalled there. The llamas felt nothing; they were sedated due to being too unruly to load up. Donkeys could care less. However, two of the horses were terrified. Calamity reared up with every wave and Ashes trembled in fear. Sailor was not afraid, even though water was spewing into his stall from a large gash in the hull. He knew his fate; water, endless water. Swimming for hours on end with no sight of land. Darkness; the stars were his only guide. Then blackness.

Blinking, he woke up on a sandy beach. How he made it there, he did not know. It was sunlight, about noon. Now what to do... He thought as he rose. Another tale for another time.

Show Name: The Blizzard In The Night
Barn Name: Czesaw
Adventure:

'This wasn't supposed to happen,' he thought as the stuttering groans of his herd sprung from around him, barely heard through the raging blizzard. They were strong horses, tough and built to withstand just about anything. The ancestors before him fought in many wars, sometimes fighting for a just cause and sometimes unwillingly for unjust purposes. They'd faced many winter storms before, but none like this. The blizzard had taken them by surprise, winter had yet to truly set in when they had left for Spring pastures. The day was bleak and cold, but no storm was in sight so they continued on their way. Come mid-day the sun was completely blocked out by the thick clouds. Deciding to take a break to catch their breath, they settled into a alcove of caves a mile or so away. They clustered close together for warmth, not daring to lay down on the icy cold floor to rest their weary legs. Three trusted members of the herd stood guard at the mouth of the caves, braving the elements so that the herd could rest easy and no predators could sneak upon them.

However, the weather took a turn for the worse, fate deciding to ruffle their fur and toss them into the frying pan. Although in this case, it instead froze them in a glacier. Thick clumps of snow began to rain down from the sky, The white material coating every surface it could reach. The wind picked up, thrashing and whistling so high it rung their ears. As if Boreas himself blew his breath across the land, they soon could not make out the trees or outcroppings from the snow. The frigid air bit into their bodies like a knife, tearing all the warmth and heat and tossed it into the wind. Snow impeding their path, forcing them to find another path to travel. Ice and frost grew upon their bodies, sucking in the energy of their beating hearts as a parasite takes in nutrients from it's host. The young foals and elders whined high and desperate, they would not be able to survive this storm if they didn't cover the entrance and hunker down to wait out the blizzard that had erupted from this chaos. The three on watch decided that it would be safer to simply cover the hole and Czesaw trotted forward to help them.

Show Name: Away With The Day
Barn Name: Venture
Adventure:
It was a routine cave dive with his rider in which Venture met his best friend. While Venture's rider was wandering through a cavern he had visited before, the gear safely in the saddlebag on his back, he heard the faint sound of snorting and a small, panicked whinny. He was quite shocked, but it was only a few moments before he realised someone was in trouble and he nudged the arm of his rider, giving a little snort and prancing on the spot. "What is it, boy?" Following the sound of the evidently panicked horse, Venture led her rider further into the cave.

Having been here before, he knew the cave back to front, as did his owner, and as he approached, and the whinnies grew louder, he realized that they were getting closer to the crater. In the middle of a big open cavern was a deep pit that had been caved in over many years, and it was quite deep. For those who didn't know it was there, it would be quite easy to fall into, and Venture worried that some damage had been done to whoever was in there.

As he reached the edge of the dip, he ducked his head down and gave a small whinny in return. There was a young horse down there, who had fallen and dislocated something in his shoulder. His rider quickly sprung into action and grabbed out a long, solid rope and a pickaxe. With a combination of carving away into the pit and the strength of the caving horse, they managed to pull the other horse out, able to prevent any further injury.

The younger horses name was Little, and he had wandered into the cave when he was bored and looking for something to do. After he got looked at by a veterinarian, Little joined Venture and his rider, and the two horses have been almost inseparable ever since.

To this day, whenever he and his rider go caving, either by themselves or with Little, training to be a cave horse, they have that same length of rope close at hand, looped around Ventur's neck or body or in his saddlebag, as a constant reminder to that day, and just in case...

After all, you never know when you're going to meet a new friend.
