the sun began to rise,

the dim light spreading slowly over the field

but the buds had not yet bloomed.

Knowing this, I stood up with a bitter feeling

in the pit of my stomach.

Yesterday was a failure,

Maybe today will be a success.

Whilst I’d rather do nothing

I knew there was work to do,

It had to be done.

I was a gift,

a gift from the Gods

My role?

to make everyone in this miserable town happy

so that the flowers bloomed,

and they learned to smile.

I’ve spent hours

and the town finally seems to be at bliss

But the flowers haven’t bloomed,

and so there must be someone I have missed.

A kalon approaches, a citizen I’ve helped.

“Hey Elide!” they cried

“clear your schedule today! I have a surprise!”

I thought for a minute

and then accepted,

Maybe a break would do me good.

They took me to the park and chatted to me

whilst we walked through the lush green woods,

I finally had time to appreciate the world around me

They bought me ice cream

grinning wide,

a feeling of confusion washed over me

so I pulled them to the side,

I asked “Why me? why not one of your friends?”

They stared at me for a moment and then replied

“you work so hard to help others but I keep thinking your suffering won’t end”

I tilted my head

They must have confused me for someone else instead.

I told them that and they frowned and said

“the whole town is happy now, it’s only you that’s sad,

I planned this day to make you feel better,

Have I made you mad?”

Needless to say,

I was surprised

When next morning, I found the whole town at my side

Throwing a party, to say thank you

My heart swelled with pride

Seeing the faces that have improved

A small smile graced my lips too

That small smile grew and grew

And with it, my happiness too.

When the sun finally set,

The flowers bloomed

My job was done

And the darkness was consumed

All I needed to learn

was that

You can make many happy

But one needs to give time to themselves

To find that small blooming flower in their heart

Please don’t steal
I was a young kalon maiden
And I died young amongst the sacred land
I was reborn into the godesss of the land
I control the fertile earth ,the running streams, the growth in the forests and the lakeshore’s sands
I have changed much from my past life

Twas late march; the first of the sunkissed bloom
Peacefulness; born into the golden age
Never nearby did monsters dare to loom
Always fearful of the Silver Beast’s rage.

And beast he is; legends daren’t speak his name
Of all the monsters; he is their leader
He has the most power, the hottest flame
From a creature so foul, came one sweeter.

Their relation was not blood, but bridal
She was of honey and gold; a martyr
I loved her dearly; she was my idol
She was my mother, but he is Father.

But now, before my father she is gone
Never again will I see summer’s dawn

     _____________

I grew with soft clouds and springtime flowers
    Rose-coloured glasses atop my young eyes;
Never aware of the higher powers
Unbeknownst to me, it was a disguise.

They say ignorance is bliss; it is true
When I found out the truth, I almost died
    My life became dull shades of grey and blue;
Never to regain my father’s lost pride.

They called him the silver beast; the Great
A ruler loathed never holds the crown long
They set themselves free as we met our fate
All we have left is a sorrowful song

The commoners speak of us in passing
Well, Dad said we would be everlasting.

     _____________

I wouldn’t wish my demise on any
My body was broken, a lifeless shell
I died at only age one and twenty
Descended into the deepest pits of hell

My demons taunted me; pride became guilt
My father's personal hell proved too strong
I was a flower left alone to wilt
We all know I could not survive for long

Lost and alone, was I even alive?
I searched for peace for years on my own
Looking for places that may never arrive
Anything to make me no longer alone

Believing all hope to be ignorance
I was burdened with grim indifference

     _____________

"The Goddess have mercy!" I beg, weeping.
"It was not I, but my scoundrel father."
Everyone knows the Goddess is sleeping
Usually, none would ever disturb her

Without a breath, she spoke: "Rise, my daughter"
Her voice honey, shock ran through my striped fur
She came from the mist, from walls of water
"You shall be reborn." my vision, a blur.

Flowers of the sun bloomed across my skin
My agonies solved with dainty green stems
Crystals of the sky erupted from within
Past wounds remedied with pale blue gems

Chosen to see the world from a new light
I had escaped the almost endless night

Ming aer Lyallan is likely one of the sweetest, most innocent kalons you’ll ever meet. She delights in the small pleasures in life, scenting flowers on long walks through the palace gardens and helping the chef’s bake bread. But where there’s innocence, there’s also naivety. Her father was the king of the land, known colloquially as the Silver King as he was the second brother and her mother died when she was young.

As she grew older, Ming heard rumours about her father who had now been dubbed the
‘Silver Beast’ due to his abuse of power of the commonfolk. Ever the child, Ming managed to turn a blind eye to his crimes, always accepting his excuses as the truth.

It was the day before her death when she eventually found out. All of his skeleton came tumbling out of the closet, quite literally in some circumstances. She tried to run away, but it was too late. The peasant uprising had reached the depths of the castle; her father was dead but the mob was still bloodthirsty.

She would’ve liked to die peacefully, in her sleep at a ripe old age after a life well lived. Not bludgeoned to death by an angry crowd of people who had previously claimed to love her. As the life sapped from her body, her soul was trapped. Her non-corporeal form refused to move on, only watching as her home was burnt to the ground, only a few charred bricks remaining by the end.

Days, weeks, months passed, Ming wasn’t sure how long it had been. She barely remembered her past life, it all seemed so long ago. The months ticked into years and Ming had become nothing more than a bitter memory. She longed to move on, hating the constant feelings of confusion muddled around her mind. Death was as gloomy as life had been joyful.

As time ticked onwards, she fell further from the person who had been Ming aer Lyallan. She was an empty shell, a nothing person. Sadness soured and folk began to leave the places she often inhabited, claiming them to be cursed. None of their rituals intent on casting her out succeeded, they only made her enraged.

It took decades for her anger to mellow. She could often be heard howling through the trees during nightfall, upsetting all who dared take that path. But she burnt out eventually. Her fiery anger was replaced by a drizzly sadness as she took to moping rather than howling. No matter how hard she tried, she could never leave the realm of the living.

Looking back, she remembered how it all changed. She had flying across the countryside when she happened upon a heavily pregnant woman. The rain soon began to fall and the woman grew more panicked. Landing in front of the woman, she tried to guide her to shelter.

“Who are you?” the woman gasped.

“You can see me?” it took Ming a moment to respond.

    “Er, are you feeling okay?”

Their conversation derailed as rain turned to hail.

“Come with me, I know where you’ll be safe from the elements.”

The manor house had long been abandoned, but not so long that it was a ruin. Ming had scared off the nobles in the early days of her life as a spirit and nobody had ever returned.

    “What’s your name?”

    “Ming.”

“I’m Shaey. Thank you for your kindness Ming.”

Leading Shaey to the lavish and heavily furnished main bedroom proved more difficult than expected. Shaey collapsed a few steps into the house and Ming had to carry her across the maze of a house. Eventually, she laid her in the bed, leaving her alone for the night.

When she returned the next morning, Shaey was pale as snow and felt cold to the touch. She claimed to be burning up but Ming could barely feel any warmth coming from her. Childbirth weakened her further and she was barely able to care for her newborn daughter. Ming found herself foraging for food for hours on end, both for Shaey and her newborn daughter, Lena.

Shaey’s condition deteriorated as the months passed and one day Ming returned to find her lifeless body cradled around Lena. They young baby was asleep and at first Ming thought they had both died. Sadness overcame her and she wept for hours until Lena woke and cried for food.

Ming spent the night digging a grave for Shaey, they hadn’t known each other for long but Ming wanted to ensure Shaey not spend her second life stuck in the realm of the living. Too young to understand, Lena cried no tears as Ming placed the gravestone atop the pile of disturbed dirt.

Ming cared for Lena for years and they soon grew inseparable. They made the run down manor their own place and Ming found herself slowly feeling more and more alive. She cried tears as Lena finally left their home, off on her own adventures. She had grown so big and strong, now an adult. Ming hadn’t aged a day.

The first night without Lena was dreadfully lonely. Ming couldn’t sleep, instead wandering through the garden, scenting the flowers. She hoped she had given Lena a good childhood.

“Ming aer Lyallan.” A melodious voice sounded from behind her. Turning, Ming saw a blazing light and the outline of another being. It was The Goddess.

“You have proven yourself to be a kind and generous spirit, one of peace and love. Where once there was bitterness, you have sweetened. You have bloomed.”

Ming felt a strangeness overcome her body as bright yellow sunflowers erupted from her.

“You treasure life more than the rarest of gems.”

Bright blue crystals pierced her skin painlessly.

“I welcome you as the Diety of Clarity.”

A golden halo crowned her head, better than any tiara. Ming smiled, she saw Shaey’s smile reflected back in The Goddesses face.

    Her eyes were finally open.

    Freya ;;

    In a far off planet
    Universe unknown
It was there that Freya originally had her home.
    A perfect utopia
    Unmatched in euphoria.

It was here her flowers thrived,
    Soaked in perfect conditions
Her petals and gems held no inhibitions
Only dripped with zest and zeal
Her appearance itself an eye catching appeal.

Yet soon she was to face all the sadness that was deprived.

She was told that she must leave
That her growth was an infestation
That leaving would save her humiliation
For nothing in a Utopia ever dies
So she sought out a planet to fertilize

    Eventually she sought out Earth
The death it brought about, sadly refreshing
For here death and life were constantly meshing
Each force of light and dark constantly connecting
After all, not all things die, they simply need redirecting

She planted her roots in the belly of the land
Let all her love fester and grow
Into grass, into caves, into leaves and willow
Flowers drenched, dripping gold in her fondness
For the rawness of this planet could not be dishonest.

In this undergrowth of death and darkness and weeds
Among it you may find everything for which you bleed.
For she has learned April showers bring May flowers
And healing comes from more than just your powers.

    name ;; Izal
    "he/him"

For seasons I've roamed these fields
Mostly alone with only flowers to graze my hand
I think this is a place beyond time
For whenever I try to reach for my past or an outside land
      Nothing ever yields
I try to not get upset
To pretend, once again, that this paradise is not a jailhouse,
      that these fields, forever stretching,
      and the sky- neverending,
are not the walls that squeeze my lungs so tight
That I am left gasping for air
Suddenly, I cannot pretend that this is alright
      I am missing
      // What is missing? //

      The air is stagnant
The buzz of life is dulled
      My breath hitches
its as if I'm made of stitches- and each one is being pulled
      I'm wilting
      The world is tilting
      Onto my knees I fall
      There I breathe-
      in, out
      in, out
Life returns to my grove- but I know
      That its never paused
Even when I on the ground in a heap
      Wished that it would

I feel a hand on my shoulder

When I look up, I see a weary face
      A troubled soul
They kneel onto the ground next to me and whisper
      "I know,"

'This isn't right,' I whisper to myself
      'This isn't how things go."
I'm laying on the ground- among the flowers, among the crystals nestled in the dirt
Next to me is the soul, with a tired smile
      She doesn't say anything
      She's young, younger than I
And yet, I've never had a soul who entered my fields comfort me

      I apologize to her
This isn't how things go, I say
      See, I'm the monster
A siren who trills a sweet tune to entice those with troubles
      Promising an ail, a remedy

      Offering the relief of forgetting

She's quiet a moment, then laughs
"That doesn't sound like something a monster would do,"
I can't remember the last time I heard someone laugh
I can't remember much at all-
So I tell her about my blight
      About my plight
She understands more than she should
      and a comfortable silence reigns
And in that pause of words, she begins to speak her story -

      // Wait- //
      Creep closer,
      Closer,
      It's okay
      I know why you came.
The grief reflected in your eyes tells everything
A moment of peace, she begs, a minute without remembering
Sit with me, soul, and tell me your pain
      Plant me stories of truth
Water them with stories of love and hate, of passion and inaction
Feel that burden run off your shoulders like rain
Show me why that sorrow rims your eyes with dark circles
As you nurture your words, watch the petals unfurl
And when the tale has fully bloomed -
      // Please, go! //
      Snip it at the bud

Now it's me who tells your story
The words you've lost, now sung
At the top of my lungs
Pushed through the growing lump in my throat
      Past the tears that burn
And roll down, stinging like wasps

      But its too late

You haven't realized the mistake you've made, not yet
But that sinking feeling you feel
      Will become a familiar companion
You've lost something- something you should have held close
Even though it burned and stung like smoke in your lungs
Charring your emotions until you felt like a husk
But, dear soul- Esara, I hope you rest easy
I was that monster after all

I take the flower her story bloomed
And I tuck it into her hand
      She's dazed
      She won't remember me
      They never do
      I guide her gently,
      treading lightly
To where the edge of my gilded cage lies
She passes through and disappears before my eyes

Days later, I hear a rustle
I stretch and rise- I have a job
And as good or bad as I see it
      It's going to be completed
When I reach the crest of the hill however,
Its not a single soul I see, but three

      Esara, and two little ones
She sees me, and she grins wide
Not a troubled cloud in sight
Her eyes are tired, and her hair grayed
      "I remembered," she calls out
"And I'm here to tell you my story one more time, about after I strayed"

      "There was a sailor,
and her ship had crashed, her crew vanished,
and without a single friend, she entered the monster's lair
      Where she found a flower
The flower would help any traveler it came across
      The only cost-
      Your story would remain here
And grow and bloom without you
The flower thought it was a blight on every soul it encountered
      But what it didn't know
Was that it saved those weary travelers

      The sailor planted her story
And left, with a lighter heart
      And a promise to herself
She would gather more stories to plant when she returned to the start,"

She places a book into my hands
Between each page, a petal pressed
      I flipped through
      Hundreds of pages
      Hundred of stories
      And at the very end...

      "You are my friend."

832 words, and an uncompleted sketch hah
    sorry for the length!
      I hope you have a lovely day/night <3

      username; fernmoon
      name; lilith
      gender; female
      poem;
      i. it was strange
morning dew upon low leaves and few grasses
a voice wailed out in rejoice of the sun
the cold night would soon be withered by the light

barren landscape with a fren in its mist
seeking a song of long times passed
never to be heard ever again
a song of the longing to belong once again
many try to seek without any success

each paw saw the desert ahead
      searching, seeking, looking
      eyes rise to search
      searching, seeking, looking
body copy each move to search

      darkness overhead
      threaten to overpower
      darkness blinded her

      ii. working moments
      her paws are sweaty
      breathing shaky and heavy
      shocked eyes open

      a repeating dream
      echoing, echoing inside her
      that dream repeating

      a song; to be found
to conquered by its own mind
      to be her own tune

      it must be that dream
      a simple answer to it
      it must be that dream

      a rare dream to dream
      "destiny dream" some called it
      or a just a dreamshe

      the desert holds it;
her answer to the song dream
      her destiny dream

      too soon just too soon
a cursed song will soon be unleashed
      she'll be its guide

setting off; betting for new changes
she was off on an adventure and taking off to a destiny
a barren landscape and she'll be its fren

      iii. the first of many
vast landscape with nothing but the view like the last one
casted out hope faster each day
cacti could stack high with flowers in bloom
a sight that couldn't light hope

days went away as she sway throughout it all
paws scorched from the sand gnawing at them
screaming in a silent scream the filled an teeming

it was one fight that couldn't be won
a fight without the light of victory
she wouldn't taste the sweet taste of a wasteful victory

each day; may wish to head back
each day; only continuing to seek answers kept her at bay
each day; a fight to seek the light to answers or head home

not many changes in the dream appeared if any
anything or something would change but nothing did

      dream returned but change
      oasis was shown then darkness
      darkness end the dream

      iv. a curse or not
      greeted by rising sun
      waking moments and realize
      oasis from the dream

      desert sand kicked up
      excited by answers in it
      sand grains in the air

      not certain of it
      not open to false answers
      answers for a truth

      thick palm leaves in trees
      all in the distant oasis
      crystal clear waters

      the shore with a box
      strange thing without any answers
      opening up box

      the humming then song
      a cursed song; her destiny
      it was hers for now

      v. the changed her
      a gift from the curse
a voice to predict future events
      an oracle for now

      better than winning
better than anything else from it
      better than victory

      history knowing
now, being noticed for her skill

      now she achieved destiny . . .
      to become noticed

      a positive change
      from lonely to noticed
