Zverya; the outcome of Soviet technology's genetic
modification during the mid 20th century. Initially,
zverya were bred to become a workingdog breed,
during the creation and breeding of Soviet Dogs. In
the Red Star Kennel took place the enhancements
to working breeds, like the East European Shepherd
and the Caucasian dog. The experimenting resulted
in the numerous powerful, large and heavy Russian
dogs like the Moscow Watchdog and the Zverskiy. It is
unknown which military or guarding dogs had been
bred in order for the creation of Zverya, although
there is resemblence in their muscular structure and
behavior to that of a Caucasian dog or even a Wolf Dog.
The dogs became popular among Soviets after acco-
mpanying soldiery throughout the Zapad-81 Exercise du-
ring the summer of 1981.
