Longneck Name: Ryko
Longneck Gender: male
Longneck Rarity: Common
Story: [501/300 words]
Ryko woke up from a very restless sleep. The air was chilled, and he could hear the steady, deep breathing from every other member of the pack. It must have been the middle of the night.
He sighed. Sadly, this was a common thing for him since his body wouldn’t tell night from day very well- no set sleep schedule, restless sleeps, and going from constantly tired to always awake.
Ryko decided to go for a short walk. He stood up, feeling the cool stone of the cave beneath his paws. He could hear the sound of his nails scraping the gravelly floor, which almost seemed to echo. He made his way outside, and he felt the grass, wet and cool from the night dew. It dampened his fur, all the way from his paws to his foreleg.
He wanted to explore tonight, and yet he knew he couldn’t. He would get lost, or get hurt. He shook his head at the thought of how many times he had put his foot in a hole or bumped into a tree.
He took a deep breath and supposed he would just walk along the trails and see where it got him. It didn’t take but a few paces forward to find the sandy path that he would follow until he looped around to home.
Of course, it wasn’t long before Ryko, becoming lost in thought, was somewhat unsure where he was, not knowing when he had left the path. He sat down for a short moment. All he could do now was wander aimlessly and hope someone would find him.
“H-help..?”
Only the wind whistled a reply.
Ryko stood up, slowly walking in any direction, until he felt a cool rock underneath his paws. Had he made it back home? There were no sounds of breathing or light snoring. No. No this wasn’t his home. Yet, Ryko was suddenly quite tired from his hike. Maybe he’d rest here for now...
———
When Ryko woke up, he felt a fuzzy body pressed against him. Warm. Yet it was quite too big to be one of his friends at home.
He got up carefully and backed up to a wall. He could hear the bigger creature move around, it’s claws seemed to dig at the ground when it moved.
What had he gotten himself into?
Ryko could feel himself shiver nervously.
“I won’t hurt you.” The bigger creatures voice was deep and scratchy.
“W-what..?”
“Badger. Where are you supposed to be?”
Ryko sighed. He didn’t know really. “I got lost...” He felt like a baby being faced up against the badger. It was bigger, potentially dangerous, and he was shaking like a rabbit.
There was a long silence.
“Stay here for the rest of the night. We’ll find your home tomorrow.”
No matter how much he didn’t like the idea, Ryko did not want to get lost further. So begurgingly, he forced himself to curl back up in the large animals fur until morning.
Extra: cannot do art here, sorry!
Anything Else?: I know that this is technically over, but I just stumbled on the species and thought this one was adorable and didn’t see any entries so I just... thought I should try. If it’s too late anyway, that’s okay. I recently wrote a story for English on a blind character so this was much fun for me still!
