kalon name: Ryan
something they liked before it was cool:
Ryan found himself mesmerized as he watched the slender tools slide oh so carefully into the cooled mass of gelatin perched between his hands. Saturdays were his peace days, and when it came to relaxing there was nothing better than getting out his cake tools to make a beautiful new creation. The beginnings of the flower were small, barely more than a pinprick in the vast clear semi-solid of the base. Soon though they would be joined by countless more carefully constructed strokes of colored gelatin to form the flower that would sit center piece in his newest design.
With one tongue poked out and steady hands guiding the needle Ryan focused all his energy on perfection, grinning ever so slightly as the placement was a success. He took a minute to pause and scratch at his face, soothing all the tiny annoyances that seemed to prick up any time he was required to sit still and concentrate. It's funny how the body worked like that. With another petal placed in perfect harmony with the rest the artist sat back in his chair and threaded his fingers through the beginnings of his beard, ignoring the sticky tingling feel of slick gelatin tangling into the mass. His phone buzzed in his pocket and after a grumbling moment of arguing with himself Ryan broke his vow of no social media while making a cake and reached to pull the slender smart phone from his pocket.
It was an Instagram notification, some up and coming no body blog had uploaded a new video of them doing the very thing he was. Granted theirs was sloppy and doomed with disaster, but what more could you expect comparing his work to others? Ryan had been creating floral [among other designs] gelatin cakes for years, long long before they got popular. With a roll of his eyes at the shoddy craftsmanship of the new comer Ryan click his phone off and shoved it back in his pocket. Better to not think of sub-par work while trying to finish his master piece.
