it's common knowledge that if you see blue on yellow
in the waters you best be makin outta there fast.
nobody wants to risk a bite from one of the deadliest
marine animals, especially when the effects are so
painful and difficult to survive. poor gil wasn't born
with the venomous advantage of his blue-ringed
counterparts, but that doesn't stop others from
assuming he did-- only a fool'd risk it with toxins

that strong, anyway. it doesn't help that he can't be on land too long without feelin a bit dried
out to begin with, meaning he's spent most of his life pretty isolated from other longnecks.

he tends to try and keep it that way when he can, since breaking out of old habits is harder
than it sounds and change is scary and hard. when some fool does take a chance and try to
talk to him he usually tries to push them away, either threatening to bite them or ignoring
them entirely. the few that persevere through his stony exterior usually find that he's more
irritated by their efforts than soft on the inside, much to their disappointment. gil mostly
spends his days underwater, sleeping in a cave and hunting for increasingly difficult prey.

there are a few he can reach out to when he does find himself longing for a bit of company,
though it's pretty rare-- only a few particular personalities fail to get under his skin, so
he often resorts to conversing with the non-sentient wildlife around him. generally he's fairly
content to live his own life, not bothered by anyone and not bothering anyone.
