Describe a time your komo had to "walk on eggshells."
Steam warmed Bean's face, fogging his glasses and blurring his vision. He rubbed the back of his wet hand across them, clearing them carelessly before dunking his hand back beneath the sudsy water. Below the murky water, the coffee grinder winked up at him, catching some of the dim light of the cafe. Normally, this job was for the baristas, but Bean knew his way around a grinder better than anyone. His calloused fingers dipped around the sharp edges and into the tiny crevices, scratching away the day's worth of grounds. The acrid smell of industrial dish soap and dark coffee beans was altogether unpleasant as a combination, and Bean wrinkled his sensitive nose. Not a good blend, he decided.

The staff had gone home early. He wouldn't dock their pay, as he could hardly blame them for not staying around. It was more than the sour smell that was upsetting Bean. All this time, building up a retinue of trustworthy staff, teaching them and training them, only to disappoint them. He thought of them now, as he scrubbed vigorously at a thick piece of ground. Blake needed the hours, he was just starting his family. But Oliver had just moved here, he had no other means, wasn't that important too? And what of Mac, who'd worked here for two years, since the cafe's opening?
The looks on their faces when he'd told them about the cafe's finances, the state of things... he didn't want to imagine. He'd turned away immediately, dismissing them for the rest of the afternoon. They wouldn't see him upset, what did he have to be upset for? He'd seen this coming.

    ---

The streetlights were still on when Bean came in the next day. They crept through the blinds, covering the cafe in splinters of light that irritated Bean's yellow eyes. He flicked on the warm overheads and set about getting things ready. He threw a batch of croissants in the oven and heaved a bag of beans from the back for today's brew. Setting the load down with a quiet noise of discomfort, Bean padded over to the coffee bar. He slid into one of the stools, pulling his red hood over his head as he sprawled across the mahogany. Just a moment, just until the pastries were done.
Exhausted from the night before, Bean fell asleep.

Some time later, he woke to the sound of the entry bell ringing. A customer...? Bean bolted upright, yellow eyes wide with terror. The croissants! The brews, he hadn't even started grinding the beans, and what time was it? And who was...

He relaxed slightly, as he took in his surroundings. It must have been 9AM already, as the cafe was full of customers, and the scent of bitter coffee filled the venue. But...how? He hadn't told anyone to come in.
Behind the counter, Blake's sweet voice chimed as he took a tired client's order. At his side, Oliver poured frothed milk into a messy latte. And wiping the very counter he was drooling on, was Mac. "Did you have a good rest, boss?"

Bean blanched, unbearably embarrassed. "The...croissants?" He managed, voice husky from sleep.
"You mean those croissants?" Mac gestured to the pastry counter, where neat rows of golden treats lined each tray. "I got here just as the timer went off." Bean pulled his hood down.
"I'm so sorry...I-" He cleared his throat. "Didn't I tell you all to take the day off?" He cringed at how nervous he sounded. Had he forgotten?
Mac sighed. "I haven't taken a day off in two years and I'm not going to start now." He grunted. "Now, wipe the sleep out of your eyes and get up. I need to clean your drool, the customers are staring."
"Oh. Of course." Bean's voice was shaky, and he could feel wetness in his eyes. He pawed at them quickly, and sniffed, hoping to disguise his rising emotions. He couldn't help it really.
Even after all this, even after yesterday, they came in. He stood, unsteady on his feet, and stared helplessly at his cafe. It was a little bit beautiful, really.

Late to close since I saw only a few entries at the time of normal closing! Chocolate bunnies will go automatically to Merc and Waffle, but past this point I will only award bunnies if there are a minimum of 7 entries.

day 10
antonio had to grow when he failed seventh grade. his parents were angry, his friends were moving on, and his teachers had already been sick of him.

he twiddled his thumbs on the bus, it was the first day of school. it was time to get better; to move on with his life and show seventh grade who was boss this time around.

"hey, mr. richards," he said, looking the seating chart up and down. "hello, antonio." he got weird looks from the new seventh grade; they had likely seen him in the hall last year, something to them wasn't right.

and the first day went fine. he did what he was told, and he listened, and eventually, with hard work and dedication, got to move up to 9th grade when the year was up.

he had moved on, and it was time to get his life set straight.

Pogo says... no way on earth.

-------------------------

Everything grows in the spring! Tell us about a time your komo had to grow.

Pogo: "I had to grow when I was first born, otherwise I wouldn't be as big as I am now! Yup! Little me had a bunch of growing to do! Up, up UP I went! Not only in Spring, neither - I grew all year round! Made things faster. But now I don't have to grow anymore. 'Cauze this size is good. Any bigger and I wouldn't be able to hide in as many places as I can now! And hiding makes it easier to scare people. It's not nearly as much fun to just stand around and yell 'Boo' at people, because they just think you're weird. If you hide in a bush first, then pop out and yell 'Boo', they'll FLIP! AHAHAHAHAH!!! I like to hide under beds, under tables, down storm drains... anywhere I'll fit! That's why I chose to stop growing when I did. I'm good at making decisions like that!"

Sorry for going back and forth with all these changes! After thinking things through, I've lifted the 3 win per person limit to akomodate (get it) the number of entries. Since this is now in effect, I will lower the minimum # of entries needed per day to 5! Thanks for bearing with me, everyone!! Winners for days 4 & 5 are also posted.

Day 11:
Writing: Describe your komo's roots, whether that be their culture, family, or beliefs

Alice may not know everything about her family's cultural beliefs or whatnot but her family dose have one very strong belief and one kind of legend or story they tell the little ones. First let's talk about the story, it goes that a long time ago a member of the family had a mate the two were in so much love that it made even the moon jealous. Her ancestor loved their mate more then anything but after time the mate decided to leave them for another. When her ancestor found out about this they felt betrayed and heartbroken. The pain the felt from that was so strong and deep that it passed right on to their child who's heart shaped tail torn and formed this permanent broken heart shape which is this rare defect that has been passed down the generations.
Now the belief her family has is that Family is important, your family loves you no matter what and will always be there for you and to Never hurt family especially emotionally. This was probably influenced by the story but Alice's family is very close, they always see each other and want to catch up often on things that happen in her life. Which is all very nice and to some would probably be perfect but maybe if her family wasn't so big..

[ ] you do everything in two's. whether it's eating every meal with another person, or counting on both your hands, or tapping on something exactly two times per tap - you always do everything in two's.

you dont know why you do it, or where it came from. you've just... kinda always done it. it's just your thing, something that you do with no real explanation. it's gotten you weird looks before, questioning glances and confused expressions as you go about your day doing everything two times. as if just to be sure you really did it, but that's not why you do it. well, you dont know why you do it, but you know at least that that's not the reason why you do it.

it's more complex than that... or maybe it isnt. you dont know. you just know you like two. two is a nice number. it rolls off the tongue smoothly, it's a number that's never alone because it always has a friend, always comes in a pair. you can divide a bajillion different numbers and always get back to where you started; two. it's just a nice number. it feels nice, and sounds nice, and it's just all around nice.

sometimes you think it's because you're just kind of weird like that, and you believe in doing weird things. sometimes you think maybe you have a magic sense and you doing everything in two's is because you believe in something you dont even recognize in yourself yet. most of the time though, you think it's because you just dont want to feel alone. you want to believe that one day you will meet your pair, the other half that completes you, understands you, and appreciates you. a friend who would be there for you genuinely, like you would for them.

you have two moms, and your moms had four children, which divided by two is two, and one of them is you. you're the youngest, and also the quietest. you have friends, but you think most of them only be nice to you out of pity. you dont really talk to your siblings that much, but you get along well with them when you do, but there's not much connection there to be found except familial obligation, you think. or pity, but that could be your own thoughts blinding you from being reasonable and rational, and maybe you're just seeing what you want to see, what your brain thinks is real.

your family tries, but they dont really get it. then again, you've never really been able to explain it or tried, so they just kinda leave you to your own devices and support you from afar while you're in your own little world. you can understand though - if you were not you, somehow, you probably wouldnt want to get involved much in the internal affairs of what goes on in your mind either, frankly. sometimes you just wish you could explain how you feel, why you do things the way you do them or why you do them in the first place, but it's like the words get stuck in your throat.

you love your family, you're proud to be apart of it in fact, and you would happily do anything for them if you had to. but sometimes you feel like you dont quite belong. you feel like maybe that's why you do what you do. you dont feel like you belong, like you conform to everyone else's standards, so you try to carve out your own niche in vain.

you do everything in two's. you draw with two crayons at a time, you snap your fingers on both hands instead of just one, you eat with two forks even if you only use one of them, you double knot your shoe laces - you could go on. there's no explanation for it, it's just your thing. you dont need a reason, and you dont really have one. you're content though, at least, and that's all you could ask for really.

and maybe... maybe you dont belong, not yet, but you believe, no, you will find your place someday. you have time, you are patient, and there is a whole world at your fingertips. one day, you will find your place in this world, even if you have to carve it out of a diamond with your bare hands, and you will do it at your own pace. and you're content with that, because you know one day your time will come. you dont know when, or how, or where, but it will, and you will be ready to face it head on.
