A small, fluffy viscet played in the mud puddles outside her house in the small Tasmanian town. Her brothers laughed around her as they tried to make the biggest splashes and cover the others. She was having fun too, and her tail was simply soaked with muddy water. Then, in the bushes, something rustled. Her brothers didn't notice it. She cautiously approached the bushes, leaving a trail of muddy footprints. And that's where her memory ends.
Seeing that she was no longer with them, her brothers searched for her. They found her passed out in the bushes, and her oldest brother sent the youngest to get their parents. She was still covered in mud, and appeared to be unhurt, but her parents took no chances. They went to the hospital. She was given a clean bill of health, besides the muddy mess that she was, and went home. That's when the dreams started.

Odette looked around the lab that she'd be working in for the next several months, possibly even a year. It was spring at the south pole, which meant that she had until the end of summer to decide if she'd stay the full year. Some of her fellow researchers looked at her pelt in envy; even inside the base it was cold. However, she could handle the cold inside the base, so she wore minimal layers. She went looking for the gear she brought with her to set it up in her lab when she bumped into someone.
The voice alerted her he was an American, and that she may have stepped a little too hard on his boot. When he stood back up the first thing she noticed were his tusks. She hadn't met many viscets with tusks, so she was sad to admit she stared more than was polite. She apologized to the American and went on her way to go find her things. Then she noticed he was back. He told her where all of the new gear came into the base. She supposed she should ask him his name, and thank him for saving her potentially hours. Then, out the window, she saw something. She brushed off, because it couldn't be.
Time passed quickly as she went out with the rest of her team and got ice cores.Off in the distance, she swore that she saw fins. But that was impossible. Antarctica was a harsh place, even for viscets. There was little to no food this far inland, and definitely not enough to support a viscet. Fear blossomed in her chest. That night, she discovered that she couldn't escape that dream, not even here at the ends of the Earth.

She was a viscling again, bumbling through the bushes. But then they changed, becoming soft, and cold. She shivered. The cold went down to her bones, but she felt fine. The trees of her home were replaced with towering peaks of ice and rock. This cold desert was empty, except for her. She trailed her small paws against the ice, and marveled at its beauty. Then she noticed her paws weren't small anymore. She went towards some ice that had a shiny sleek surface. She was grown, and wearing only a light jacket, foot wraps, and a scarf. Her head told her that she should be hypothermic by now, but she felt fine. Something pulled at her, tugging her towards the icy peaks. She followed it.
Her footsteps were carried away in the howling wind that only grew stronger with each step she took up. Her feet were covered in small nicks and cuts by the time she reached it. Then, she noticed the soft glow coming from the cave. A sea green color. She followed it, ignoring that little voice that was screaming at her to turn back now. That if she took another step she wouldn't be able to undo this. She continued. The cave became inky black, but still that glow was there. Guiding her deeper than ever before. She felt, rather than saw, the cave open up into a large chamber. In the center, as if it grown from the floor, was rough hewn pedestal. On it lay the source of the glow. It was a simple thing; chain made of cold steel and a pendent of shiny-yet rough- crystal.
Fear gripped her, and she didn't know why. But the necklace called to her. Every step she took was punctuated by fear so strong that it hurt. And still she went. It took her an agonizingly long time to reach the pedestal; from either the pain or the cavern's size, it didn't matter. Her paws shook as she carefully picked up the necklace, and the fear retreated, bubbling beneath the surface of her conscious mind. She slid the surprisingly smooth chain over fingers. Then everything went dark. The fear came back with a vengeance. She looked around frantically looking for the way she came, but couldn't see it. The only light came from the crystal, and a pair of eyes that bobbed in the darkness. They were the same color as the crystal, and had their own soft glow.
Then she saw clearly the face that had haunted the shadows of her dreams since she was a child.
"I've been waiting a long time for you, Truth-Seeker."
She woke with a start. Odette was alone in her wakefulness, and was grateful for that. Then, she wrote down everything she could remember, because for the first time in years that particular dream had changed.
