when was a time they experienced unrequited love?:
She must’ve realised from the start, she must have. She must have blocked the feelings out, or ignored them, but she knew she was in too deep. She was usually a pro at this, stopping it from happening before it got too far, how could she have been so blind, how did she let this happen?
She clicked the home button on her phone again. With her hands shaking she tapped in her password and re-read the text, torture.
“Thank you, Veronica, you’re a great friend.”
They had a problem. Of course Veronica would help them out because she’d never leave someone she cared about lying in the dirt, but as soon she’d seen the text her heart fell, her eyes welled up and she realised then what had happened, she’d fallen in love.
Her chest ached. It was a mix of emotional and physical pain that almost made her writhe in agony. It was getting late but she couldn’t sleep, a lot of things were spinning around in her head, remembering how they had become friends. It was silly really. She had literally bumped into them making them drop their shopping. Somehow, they had managed to bond over broken jars and squashed food, and now they had been friends for the longest time. The pain of knowing that they will never love her back and that they would only ever see her just as a friend was almost too much to bear.
Veronica turned over to lie on her back and stared at the ceiling with phone clutched to her chest. Why must these things be so difficult? How could she let them ever be with someone else? She finally fell into a troubled sleep, hoping that when she woke up this feeling would be gone.
It wasn’t.
