my favorite part of spring is... word count: 210

shayla has always had a deep love for springtime. she loves the sickly sweet scent of honeysuckle as she strolls through her backyard, and the faint buzzing of bumblebees as they search for a fresh flower. she longs for the feeling of soft violets brushing against her ears as she lays back and gazes at the trees, her ears filled with the glorious sounds of baby birds chirping as their mother hangs a worm in front of them, and the rustling of the leaves as the squirrels chase each other. in the wintertime, she dreams about the sunshine sneaking through her cracked window and filling her room with liquid gold.

but her favorite part of springtime is that she’s able to start gardening again! she’s never had a thumb so green that she could plant seeds straight into the ground, but transferring tiger lilies and sweet basil seedlings to her garden still counts, right? she loves her plants dearly, each and every one of them. she sings lullabies and talks about her day as she waters them, or when she’s adding compost to her garden, or when she’s simply walking by to check the mail. her plants are her friends, you see, so she has to treat them as such!

springtime adventures... word count: 336

it’s just a wonderful mid-april morning. the air is warm and there’s only a slight breeze, and the birds are singing in the trees, and—the flowers, of course! shayla holds a wooven basket in her mouth as she sprints down the hill, only to jerk to a stop once she catches sight of a blooming tiger lily. the basket falls into the grass, and her freshly plucked flowers spill all over the place, but she’s too focused on the lily to even care about that right now!

she nearly trips over her paws as she makes her way over to the little bud. it’s still mostly green and shyly hidden away, but there’s a small petal drooping to the side, and as shayla looks a little closer, she can see the soft peachy pinks on the inside, and the freckled tips of the soon-to-be flower petals. she cautiously reaches out to touch it, because she’s never actually seen a tiger lily before besides the ones they sell in the village and the pictures in her science textbook, but that’s all. this is a real tiger lily, a real one!

it feels like time is slowed down and she’s frozen in this one moment—her paws inching toward the shy little lily and her eyes wider than the moon as the world spins around her and the flower seems to be a dream, dazzling and forever out of reach. she takes a deep breath and holds it in so her paws will stop shaking, and with a determination she’s never felt before, reaches out and squeezes the flower bud. it’s a gentle touch, and the bud is surprisingly soft, but then it starts to vibrate beyond belief, and suddenly—

a bee!

she falls back on her rump as the fat little bee pushes itself out of the tiger lily bud and heads straight toward her. she grabs her basket in a frenzy and nearly forgets her flowers as she tries to outrun the fury of that little honeybee!

The melting of the snow and the trickling of the water of melting icicles. "What a lovely sound." Kaladi thought out loud. "Its just such a soothing sound to hear."

Kaladi’s favourite thing about spring is the melting of the snow. She loves the smell of spring arriving and not having to deal with putting on winter clothes. She is and never will be a big fan of winter; she absolutely hates cold weather. Once all the snow begins to melt she can’t wait to run around in the warm sun and roll around in the green grass. Kaladi is a big fan of hiking. She loves to get out into nature and get her paws dirty. She is a huge traveller and never stays in one spot of very long. Kaladi’s goal is to hike as many pikes as possible before she gets to old. She doesn’t like to hike during the winter since it is both very cold and very dangerous. So spring is the beggining of her hiking season.

Kaladi is very laid back and just loves to enjoy life. She doesn’t let anything bring her down and sees the best in every situation. Kaladi is a very active young little goato(goat+komo). She loves the welcoming feeling of the outdoors. She never stays in one place to long and is always traveling. Kaladi is very friendly to others and always sees the best in people. She never relies on first impression of anyone. Though she is not very fond of company while she is hiking, she prefers more quiet time by herself.

Olwen is the definition of neutral good. She believes all things are created equal no matter what their crimes are. Turning a blind eye to such crimes can have consequences however. Others tend to take advantage of her lacking mentality to get what they want from her. Being on optimist, Olwen would never consider what bad her naturalness could bring and is often taken aback when one betrays her. Olwen is also incredibly loyal. She would stick by one's side to death if need be.

It's quite an odd job, really. Not many komos in the small town Olwen lives by have a home run honey bee farm! A big reason she loves Spring is because she can care for her thousands of honey bees she keeps under her care. Most komos would be afraid of bees, sure but Olwen has come to appreciate them for what they are. She understands that when they sting someone they are more afraid of you than you are afraid of it.

It's about a ten-minute walk to get to the town where Olwen's store is located. There, she sells honey and other home made sweets and baked goods. Her girlfriend, Azalea often helps out with transferring the products from their house to the small store.

The cool breeze was pleasant against her soft blushing cheek. Song birds sang their lovely melodies as new leaves rustle in the wind. Black and yellow honey bees worked busily to collect nectar and pollen from flowers to bring back to their nests. Olwen studied one of the bees with her green eyes as she landed on a nearby dandelion. The worker took off shortly later and headed back to her nest. Grasshoppers sat on blades of grass in the warm sun and caterpillars inched along the branches of trees in search of food. Rabbits ventured from their dens to feast on the new shoots of grass peeking through the ground. Glancing to her left, Olwen saw a mother deer and her fawn playing in the opposite side of the field in which she lay. Smiling softly, she stood up and headed back to her home. Spring was here at last.

Owlen's favorite thing about Spring is the abundant life and warmth it brings.

These two began as best friends as young komos. They never left each others sides and were there for each other the moment they called. Whenever Azalea went through boughs of depression, Olwen would be right by her side to mend her wounds. Their relationship became romantic in early adulthood, and they later moved in together. The two often go outside and seek out rare flowers and herbs. Other times they will hunt for herbs to make homemade soup with. Olwen usually does the cooking as Azalea isn't to great at it. Olwen adores her partner's good nature and is awed at her creativity. The two live in a mutual harmony and love each other endlessly.

Amazon is a member of Olwen's tight-knit friend group which includes a few others. Olwen met Amazon through Azalea, and they bonded rather quickly as they shared many interests. The three friends would often go traveling together but when Azalea and Olwen moved in together they didn't do it as often. They still meet up quite a bit and have a lot of fun together.
