Cedarpaw sat atop a stone jutting from the wall of the Pineclan camp. The bright Greenleaf sun was warming her blotched coat and she closed her gold eyes against the light; although she could still see its orange brightness. She heard some small voices below her and looked down to see the newly appointed apprentices skittering across the camp and following behind their mentors on their first day. She saw her own mentor, Mousestripe, trailing behind them and he looked up to meet her gaze. Knowing instinctively that he wanted her to follow, Cedarpaw hopped down and trotted over to the group. She fell in step at the side of the patrol. There were three new kits to train in the ways of the warrior, but the smallest little she-cat caught her attention.
The lilac tabby, Lavenderpaw, was probably only six moons younger than the elder apprentice, but she was practically half her size. This did not seem to bother her though, and she excitedly jumped about beside her mentor, question after question flooding out of her mouth. Once they were out in the forest though, she fell silent. She gazed around in awe of the greenness surrounding her. Cedarpaw looked up into the boughs of the mighty pines that protected her clan and remembered how massive they had been to her the first time she ventured out of her clans sheltered stone hollow. She was walking a bit behind the group and lost in thought, when a small frame appeared in her peripheral vision. She looked down to see the wide green eyes of Lavenderpaw.
"Hi Cedarpaw," she chirped, her tail flicking high in the hair. "Where do you think we're going? To look for intruders?....To fight some foxes?!" Her fur fluffed up in anticipation as she said this.
Cedarpaw stifled a laugh. "You think you could take on a fox, little fighter?" She asked her.
"With one paw behind my back!" Lavenderpaw hissed.
"Well, lets start with a mouse maybe," Cedarpaw smiled. "Or a leaf."
Lavenderpaw gaped at her in disbelief, swatting her with a small paw, before turned and snatching a leaf off the ground heroically and crushing it in her teeth. "Next!" she mumbled around it.
Cedarpaw's laughter was cut short by Mousestripe gently scolding the two apprentices, but they giggled under their breath at the back of the patrol and somehow managed to find ways to be together every day they could after that.

Mistydawn was always thankful of Sootstar for him finding her that one morning. He took her in, kept her safe and protected, he was her savior. And those eyes, those eyes, a fiery gold...
"MISTYDAWN! Hello?! Are you awake in there??"
Cloudstep charged her, knocking her flat off her paws. After regaining her breath, she glanced at the tom, eyes twinkling. He had caught her drifting off into space. Again. Guiltily, she started to shake the sand out of her thick fur, remembering now that Cloudstep was teaching her a new battle move. Cloudstep noticed too, laughing at her.
"Ohh, were you dreaming about your savior again. Oh! How he saved me! I think I love him!!!"
He mewed mockingly, imitating her. Mistydawn crouched down and leapt on top of him, growling defensively.
"Cloudstep! I do not like Sootstar! He is only a friend!!"
The second the words slipped out of her mouth, Cloudstep narrowed his eyes, throwing her off of him, paring her strikes with his own. Then, a thought came to his mind.
"So you like Sootstar eh?.. I can't wait to tell him that."
He taunted, and crouched down waiting... Mistydawn roared and leapt through the air, somersaulting, and landing on his back, knocking the air out of him with an oof. He had guessed right, and they both knew it. She stepped off of him, and sat back, cleaning herself.
"I thought you were my friend Cloudstep... You wouldn't dare tell him, would you?"
She mewed softly, looking down. He rose up, a small smile in his eyes.
"Of course not. You're my best friend Mistydawn, I would never do that to you.. But you should tell him how you feel, maybe you're not the only one who feels that way..."
She looked up, startled and grinned.
"Perhaps I will, but we have some more practicing to do, my friend.."
As the last words left her mouth, they charged forward again, two friends practicing their fighting moves until the sun dipped below the hills.
