when was a time they experienced unrequited love?: It was a celebration, but the ale tasted sour on his tongue as he devoured the next pint. He was on the second round, or perhaps it was the third? Not like he was counting. He’d go until the pain went away. The man sat huddled by himself in the corner table. Across the tavern was a livelier group, laughing and raising glasses in a toast. I should be over there, Crow thought bitterly. Truth was this seclusion was a self-made situation. He was alone because he chose to be.

It’s too hard to be close to a desire you cannot achieve.

He downed another glass. Blue eyes desperately tried to wander away from the dazzling smile brightening up the room over there. Trying not to wish it was his hand caressing that cheek was a difficult feat in its own. Suddenly the pain in his chest pounded harder as he met a beautiful yellow gaze for the flicker of an instant.

Growling, he got up to fetch another glass. Crow knew it was a bad idea to bring Quinn onto the ship. He has been through plenty of sword fights, but of course it would be love where he would meet his demise. This pain would surely consume him.

If one were to ask why he loved Quinn he’s not sure he could answer. Why chase someone who will never want you back? Why ruin oneself over a taken heart? There’s no answer to such questions.

But by the gods… when he sees a blush painting those cheeks, he wants nothing more than to be the cause of it.

So, he downs another ale and suffers another night. Sometimes, fate puts you on the sidelines, and he wouldn’t dare ruin the peace those two have by entering the game.

when was a time they experienced unrequited love?:

"Have you ever been in love?" As soon as she spoke the words her face flushed. "S-sorry, you don't have to answer that."

It was sometime before our morning classes when Andromeda and I always meet up before first period. We had decided to grab some coffee this time and were currently seated on a long stone bench in one of the quieter quads on campus.

My eyes gazed out over the grass before us. I had not been expecting that. Andromeda was the first person I met at the start of college. Neither of us had known anyone going here but we somehow bonded over our mutual humor and were now basically besties. I glanced at her face. I wouldn't have gotten this far without her.
"I have."

Her gaze fixed on me and she raised her eyebrows. "How did it feel?"

"Well... It was a pain."

"Why?"

I sighed. "They didn't love me back."

"Oh." She was silent for a second and her eyes focussed on the coffee in her hands. Finally she spoke.
"What do you do if the one you love doesn't love you back?"

"You keep loving them... cause its impossible to stop." I responded softly.

Andromeda bumped my shoulder with her own. "Sera, you sound so wise." There was a softness to the smile she wore.

I couldn't help but smile back at her; she does that to me. "I've had some experience with heartache."

"What happened?" Her eyes held a sympathetic look as she gazed into mine. I wanted to tell her.

"When I was younger I loved my best friend. We did everything together and I was content just having them in my life. But as we got older things changed. They moved on and left me behind. They became friends with other people while I didn't. By the time we went to high school we were no longer close." I explained. "All the while I still felt the same while they didn't. That really hurt. I had hoped we would always be together, but I guess you can't make people stay in your life if they don't want to."

I felt Andromeda's hand on my shoulder. "That sounds like a lot of heartache."

I scanned the campus around us. "true, but I think there's something beautiful in unrequited love."

"And what's that?" She inquired.

"It lasts the longest, but makes you a better person for the next people who walk into your life." I smiled at her.

She blushed and it was silent for a moment. Then she asked, "Do you ever regret loving them?"

I stared at my hands. "No. Never. I've learned from my pain and realized that those who don't make an effort to stay in your life aren't meant to be and getting over them leaves room for the right people; those mean't to be in your life." I smiled at her.

Andromeda smiled right back. Then she spoke and her words made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. "Well... I love having you in my life everyday and I want you to know you mean the world to me. I don't ever want to hurt you." Then she wrapped her arms around me in a comforting hug. I wanted to stay like this forever, but a buzzing from my phone brought us back to reality.

Andromeda jumped up. "We have class soon!" She took of speed walking away.

I stayed where I was lost in my head. "Hurry up we're going to be late!"

This girl had no idea what she was doing to me.

bao meaning praise, honor

chéng meaning sincere,honest, true

nickname: Aquila, from his military

academy days. Latin for "Eagle."

gender: cis male

when was a time they experienced unrequited love?:
Soft, pale light covered the garden, illuminating the prince’s muzzle as he sat before the fountain. He had spent many a night in this place; it calmed him when he found he could not sleep. His breath was quiet as the wind rustled the leaves of the flora before him. This was his happy place. This was, in a sense, his heaven. As he reached to cup a small budding rose with his paws, another kalon’s footsteps could be heard drawing near. Aquila’s ears perked ever so slightly, the young man looking in his peripheral vision to see who came near.

Just as he expected. A guard.

The castle had many soldiers patrolling day and night. His father, the king, had received a bad omen from his fortune teller, and as a result he increased security of the palace. To Aquila, it seemed quite nonsensical, but he wouldn’t tell his father how to rule his own kingdom. He could worry about that when his time came.

The guard drew closer, Aquila laughing as he sat up straight. He could feel the man’s eyes on him, knowing the next words that would come out of his mouth.

“Worry not about my business out here at such an hour. I’m enjoying the cool air of the night.” He turned his head to look at the other kalon, who met his stare.

“I’m well aware.” Aquila found his voice soothing. He’d been expecting him. He motioned him closer, a carefree smile on his face.

“Please, sit down.” Aquila smirked, hands resting on the stone bench beneath them. “I’m glad to see you again.”

The man returned his gesture. “It has been strange working for your father. I feel as though I’ve become lost in my job...” Aquila’s smile grew wider. It felt nice to see his old companion again.

“And what are you doing out here spying on me, hm?” The other man could only laugh, scratching the back of his head. “It’s my duty to keep you safe, your highness.”

“Poppycock. I’ve seen you walk past my garden countless times. Are you a fan of my work?” He cupped the rose he’d been touching earlier, plucking it from the bush. The man nodded.

“I’m glad to see you again. Truth be told, I have a question I’ve been meaning to ask you.” His eyes focused on the white rose in his hand, fiddling with the delicate petals. “Before you answer, I want you to think on it.” He glanced at the other kalon, who nodded once again. “I can’t deny that for some time, I’ve fancied you. I know that we come from two different worlds, and we've been apart for some time, but we can make this work.” Silence followed, and he could see quite clearly that his old friend was confused.

“My father won’t be a problem. I do want this to be discrete, however. Just for now.” He took a small breath. “When you’ve made your choice, leave one of these roses at my door. A white rose for yes,” he said, placing the flower in the other man’s hands, “or a black one for no.” He gave a soft grin before standing to leave, returning to his room for a good night’s sleep.

The next morning, he opened his door, his morning breakfast set neatly on a tray before him. He could see a stem protruding from beneath the metal dish cover, and lifted it swiftly in anticipation. He gasped, quietly, eyes transfixed on the wilted flower.

A black rose.

    The cove was quiet.
The beach was white and soft, the tide steady and whispering. The water, a vibrant, playful hue, lapped at the shores like a great cat's tongue, the frothing white edges leaving bubbles in the soaked sand. From the east came a wandering breeze, delighting in its discovery of the waves as it whipped about the ocean's surface. The palms, planted stolidly some thirty feet from the water's shifting edges, rustled in greeting as the wind's cool fingers tickled their leaves.
A seagull, gliding lazily overhead in the warm thermals, passed quietly over the white sand. A glimmer of white-and-gold caught its sharp attention quickly, picked out from the white sands of the deserted, peaceful cove.
The seagull landed daintily, wings tucked neatly against its sides, yellow beak darting from side to side as it examined the mass of soiled white fur. The pile was still; half of it was drenched, the waves washing over the darker side. Hopping closer, it pecked lightly at the oddly-shaped bundle, beady eyes seeking any signs of food.
A loud, raw gasp ripped through the silence of the cove like a gunshot, the seagull screeching in alarm as the white fur jerked and thrashed. The long white wings snapped outwards, and in a flash the seagull was in the air, no longer interested in the strange noisy thing on the beach.
Sand was flung into the air as the white thing breathed in patternless, choppy breaths, its limbs whirling in frenzied panic. The white, laughing tides continued to push and pull at the thing's fur, heedless of the ragged hacks that splattered pink-toned stains into the clean sand.
The coughs died down, the pink droplets finished, and with an uneven manner the thing rose, hair tangled wildly. Fresh blue eyes blinked into the sun, fangs framing the panting mouth as the thin tail swung listlessly.
For several minutes did the thing tremble without moving. The breeze played in its hair and fur, the trees whispered curiously, the seagull eyed it from its thermals. Still it did not move.
    "...How could you?"
The voice was quiet, hoarse from the screaming of the previous night.
Lifting its lowered head slowly, the thing continued to shake, its fangs bared against the spilling wind.
    "How. Could you?"
Fur shifted, and the thing began stepping towards the tide. "Why would you do this? All we wanted was to sail. All I wanted was to show him how wonderful the ocean can be."
Furiously, the thing curled its cracking lips, a row of white flashing sharply in the sun.
"He was so frightened! I was sure, so sure, I knew you wouldn't hurt him--that you--that you wou--that he wouldn't be harmed! I was going to change my family's lives, let them love the sea like I do!"
A sob crackled harshly through the air.
"Why would you take him from me?!"
And beyond the cove, where the waves were full and wide, where the broken bits of rope and sail still drifted in the current, the tides continued to laugh.

" She loved the sea. She liked the sharp salty smell of the air, and the vastness of the horizons bounded only by a vault of azure sky above. It made her feel small, but free as well."
    - George R. R. Martin

    "Hinatea, no!"
With a sharp jolt, the giggling kit was swung from the wet sands, edges of foamy surf splashing onto her paws as she squealed. The large paws of her father gripped her sides firmly as the water passed harmlessly beneath her swinging legs, and the grey kalon hauled her back from the shore as she struggled.
    "But daddy! Wanna go water!"
Still panting from his sudden sprint towards the shore, he allowed his head to drop and the tension to dissipate for a quiet moment, his tail drooping towards the sands as his small daughter wrestled against his hold. Behind him, the ocean lapped at his paws, and he shivered, taking a few quick steps forward.
"No, honey, you can't...go in the water."
Still squirming, the small kit let out a whine, her whip-thin tail lashing mildly against his chest. "But why? Wanna go water!"
This time the poorly-phrased question was ignored. Lifting his head and squaring his shoulders, the grey kalon began to pace steadily away from the ocean's edge, his jaws clenched uncomfortably.
The sound of birdsong was muted by the ocean's ambiance. The forest was thick, deciduous trees clustering on the grassy half of the border that marked the beach. He could hardly see between them.
Regardless, it wasn't enough. He'd have to move them farther inland.
"Daddyyy! No wanna go hoome! Wanna see mommy!"
For a long moment, all color drained from the world. His footing slipped as he staggered in the hot sand, his thoughts emptying as he stopped.
His eyes slid shut, a pained breath leaving his lips. His daughter was still.
    He swallowed.
"We won't...you won't find mommy, out there. She's never coming back."
Neither one spoke, and he continued to walk away, away from the water that took his half.

when was a time they experienced unrequited love?:
Sweat dripped from Theron’s forehead, his breathing was shallow and hard.

He raised his arms steadily and struck the knife through the monsters heart.

It let out a treacherous cry before going silent.

Be a hunter in the night. Do what it takes to make things right.

He was the leader of the Nighthunters, prepared to sacrifice everything for the people. He lead his team of five through hard and dangerous journeys to wipe out the Dream Monsters. They were monsters who traveled through dreams, lurking for the chance to strike. What was so different about them, was that they caused physical damage, if they killed you in your dream, you’d die in real life. They come in all shapes and sizes but one thing they have in common, is their bloodthirsty souls. It’s up to the two elite teams to protect the people, the Nighthunters and Dayhunters. Dayhunters traveled through daydreams, while Nighthunters traveled through dreams during bedtime.

He wandered aimlessly through the village, last night had been a rough one, he wanted to take it easy during the day. He took a seat on a bench beside a pond, fidgeting with his bandages. People were gathered here for their own little reasons. Picnics, walks, flying kites, kits playing tag, or just chatting.

He looked around him, at their smiling faces as the carried on with their day. He’d met every single one of them before in a dream, but of course they couldn’t remember him, in order to stay a secret, they’d forget everything as soon as they woke up. It pained him in to know that he saves all their lives at some time but was returned by nothing but ignorance. I guess it’s for the best, he thought sadly to himself.
