mikaela's steps were the only thing heard as he walked along a forgotten path to a town abandoned years ago. everything looked the same as how everyone had left it; houses crumbled to the ground, burnt pieces of rubble mixed in with the snow that covered the ground. he breathed out, his breath visible in the freezing air as he stopped in front of the familiar house. the nice white picket fence was splayed on the ground, snow cascaded across most of it. the small gate to it was gone now, and mikaela began walking forward again. once he reached the porch, his hand glided against the cold metal railing connected to the stairs, taking careful steps up. his eyes studied the red door in front of him, peering momentarily into the small window in the middle of it. his eyes went to the bottom of the door, noticing the ash still there. reaching towards the door handle, he turned it slightly before the door became ajar. mikaela took his first few steps in, eyes adjusting to the darkness in the house. he stood there for a few moments, taking in everything like he usually did when he came there before continuing through the living room. hand gliding across the leather of the burnt couches, he wiped his hand off on his pants before approaching the spiral stairs, slowly making his way up them. he didn't even need to look around to know where he was going - straight to his sister's room - where his older sibling was napping before the fire. and ultimately, she had died from the inhaling the smoke. pushing open the door, he took in a small breath before exhaling. it was always sort of hard for him to come back to this room where his sister had passed, but the two of them had a lot of great memories in there. dancing to her pop punk albums at two am when their parents were out for a few days, coming to her room when he needed someone to talk to after a nightmare, and plenty of other things. shedding his long jacket, he placed it in the middle of the floor before taking a seat. his eyes scanned the surroundings; the posters that were covered with ash, her bed, its covers hunched at the bottom of the bed. instantly he looked away from it then, closing his eyes instead and taking in a deep breath, exhaling it slowly from his mouth. scooting up a bit on his jacket, he laid back then, feeling his hair touching the bare carpet, but he didn't really care. it wouldn't be the first time his pure white hair would be stained with soot, and it surely wouldn't be the last time. after laying there for sometime, he felt himself leaving his body, and suddenly, he was looking down at himself. floating towards the door, he called out his sister's name; "naomi?" there was no response for a couple long moments, and mikaela feared she had left for good this time. "mikaela!" turning, he looked to her bed, where she was sitting up with a smile. "come, sit."
this is the only way he's able to talk to his sister. even though he travels to an earth location and spends a lot of time there, his favorite place is the astrological plane; where everything is finally okay.
