the rhythmic tip-tapping of the leaky shower head soothed owen,
her spiked fur was now settling back down on her neck. she wriggled
around in the bathtub, trying to move her soft constellation blanket
from under her tail. the slippery, damp bottom of the bathtub was making
her slide around. she tucked her long hair behind her ear and pulled the
blanket closer to her face, ears relaxing as she pulled out her notebook.
rows of empty, messily drawn music lines filled the cream colored pages.
she closed her eyes, humming quietly to herself. they were harmonious
melodies, colorful notes whizzing past her. in her mind’s eye, she imagined
a quiet field, grass so green and flowers even more beautiful than the
stars in the night sky, a tall kalon playing beautiful songs on a wooden
panflute. she opened her eyes briefly, scribbling notes into the lines and
humming along. the lead on the pencil slowly filed down, but she
barely took notice. her mind was in another place, one that wasn’t
here. owen’s mind raced with bright songs, slow, smooth graceful
melodies, quick, light, bouncy songs. her hand moved quickly over
the pages, expertly jotting down the beats. her foot thumped on the
edge of the bathtub, counting out beats of 4, 6, 8, a steady beat, in
time with the constant drumming of dripping water. owen’s hand finally
wavered, hovering over the page in hesitation. she closed her eyes again,
smiling as she found herself looking over the stern of a rocking boat. a tan
kalon, holding a violin, struck chords. wonderous melodies erupted from
the wooden instrument, wrapping around owen’s head, whispering from ear
to ear, making such sweet sounds she felt as though she should never leave.
but she opened his eyes, staring in delight down at the paper, hand racing
as she scribbled the notes she just heard. the quiet ocean song played in
her head, a tiny breeze behind her ears. the blanket covering her legs kept
her warm, and she felt her eyelids drooping. she scrawled out notes even
quicker, racing the drowsiness that was pulling her into sleep. her head
slowly lowered, the pencil fell from her hand, and she slumped down into
the mess of blankets and pillows she had filled the bathtub with. as he fell
deeper into a warm, cozy slumber, lovely songs, and an orchestra of
perfected notes swam around in the murky depths of her consciousness.
the music slowly faded, and ophelia’s eyes grew darker and darker,
until she was

there is a small, tranquil
part of the forest that kaito enjoys
spending time in. it consists of a
large boulder, facing a burbling creek.
two weeping willows frame the rock,
almost as if someone arranged it
that way. the gentle swaying of the weeping willows
and the quiet noises of the water slipping past rocks
put's kaito's mind at ease. he loves the squishy feel of moss
beneath his paws, the cool water of the creek, and
the quiet sounds of nature. songbirds chirp
in the morning, and in the evening an orchestra
composed of crickets and cicadas lull him into
a drowsy daze. here, he feels at peace, unbothered by
whatever may be bothering him at the
time. kaito often takes naps here, comforted by the
serenity of it all. sometimes he'll fall into a deep sleep
and find himself waking up to daylight streaming through
the forest, casting everything in a soft yellow glow.

you can usually find him
at this spot year-round, regardless of the weather. in spring and summer, kaito visits his spot almost every day.
he spends whole afternoons lazily basking in the sunlight, sprawled across the large boulder. when it rains, he curls up beneath one of the willows and watches the droplets fall, not minding the wetness of the grass seeping into his fur. in autumn, kaito dons a scarf and hat and trots down to his spot every couple days or so, enjoying the crisp fall air and the crunch of leaves beneath his feet. winter is when he visits his spot the least,
with the days getting shorter and shorter, but still tries to go once a week, usually on weekends. he puts on a thick wool cap, coat and mittens on to keep himself warm, clears an area of grass from the snow, and sits for a while, taking in the beauty of the winter wonderland.
