"No matter how busy you are, you must take time to make the other person feel important."
-Mary Kay Ash
Morahn was curling up in his bed when it hit him. Today was Valentine's Day.
He groaned inwardly, because somehow he had lost track of the days. He sighed and dragged himself out of bed to look over his careful preparations for tomorrow; the day he thought was supposed to be Valentine's Day. He knew his valentine would not be happy. He had promised her an elaborate day to celebrate them both, and he had let her down miserably. Looking over his plans, he made a few tweaks here and there, and went to bed, hoping it would be enough to make it up to her.
As he walked up to her he could feel her hurt over his mistake. Before they could start fighting, he showed her the bouquet and apologized immediately. He completely owned up to his mistake, and he watched as the look on her face softened. When he smiled softly, she smiled back. It wasn't perfect, but it was start. He took her to the river, where he had a basket set up for a picnic on the grassy riverbank. They watched the fish in the river while they ate and chatted away. Then, somehow, a game of hide-and-seek started. It probably began when he tossed a pebble, and went to find it again and stayed hidden in the brush. When his Valentine came to find him, he surprised her.
They hid in bushes, trees, burrows, under rocks, and once in the river itself. By the time the sun began to set, they were both laughing and content. Morahn felt that he had thoroughly made it up to her. When they walked back to their homes she gave him an odd look; a bit of a smirk with a mischievous glint in her eye. When he went to bade her goodnight, she said, "While this certainly made up for 'missing' Valentine's Day, I thought you should know that it wasn't yesterday. I switched out your calendar with an old one, Valentine's Day is actually tomorrow!" Then, with a laugh she and a hug she went inside, leaving Morahn sitting flabbergasted outside her door. When he went back home, he checked his calendar, and sure enough, it was an old unused calendar. He just shook his head and laughed, because that was one way to miss the Valentine's Day crowds everywhere.
