Extras 4 & 5 [Backstory/History] wrote: When Kotori was a kit living in a cottage in the country of Magae, life was very normal. When he was very young, though, a tragic event happened to him that changed his life forever. Shall we go on?⋯Kotori stumbled into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes from sleepiness. He opened the cabinet and glanced at its contents- and his eyes landed on a cereal box with the words Wizard O's printed on it. He picked it up and placed in on the kitchen counter, grabbed a bowl and poured some in. He grabbed a spoon and took his cereal to the table where he began to eat. Just a normal, boring summer day, he thought. Then his mother walked in, smiling at her son.
"Good morning Ko," she said happily. Kotori grinned back and then continued eating. She got herself some oatmeal and then joined him at the table. "Would you like to go bowling today? No magic, if you want," she asked between bites. "I know seeing adults do magic makes you jealous," she sighed.
"Sure, that sounds much more fun than just sitting on the couch all day," Kotori replied. He was about to speak again when his father stomped into the room, boiling with anger.
"What have you done?" He growled at Kotori, shaking with anger.
"I-I don't know," Kotori stammered truthfully.
"I know you did something. I got a call this morning saying that I am fired. And it was all because apparently the office was ransacked with 'my name was here' scribbled on the wall in crayon." He was spitting with anger at his son, and his mother jumped up in front of him.
"How would our son do this? He wasn't at the office! Why would he do that to your office anyway?" Ko's mother said, trying to stay calm.
"He went out on a "walk" yesterday for hours! Where else do you think he went?" He yelled.
"He said he went to the butterfly garden. He wouldn't lie to us," she replied, voice rising. Ko backed up a few steps, frightened by the unexpected argument. The ground started to shake and silverware and plates started dropping off of the counters and out of drawers. He didn't want to make his father any more angry, or something might fall on him. He ran out of the room and ran to his parents' bedroom, where nothing was hanging on the wall. He still heard screaming and shouting, and the rumbling on the house grew stronger with every sentence. After a few moments he heard a loud crash and the sound of both of his parents screaming. He bolted down the stairs and saw his mother laying silent on the ground, a cabinet having fallen onto her. His father stared at what he had done. Kotori boiled with anger and glared at his father.
"What have you done?" Kotori spat. "Get that off of her while I call the police."
His father began attempting to pry the cabinet off of Ko's mother while Ko picked up the house phone and called 911.⋯A few hours later Kotori learned that his mother had died from the impact of the cabinet's weight on her body. One of the corners had hit her head and damaged her skull, as well as the rest of the cabinet breaking multiple bones. Ko knew that he would never forgive his father and knew that he'd forever be spending his time out of the house at different gardens. As soon as he was old enough and had completed school, he moved into a small apartment building with roof access. He got special permission from the landlord to make his own garden on the top. His mother had loved gardening and birds. She would go bird-watching with her son any time they could, and Ko's mother's love had rubbed off onto him. The roof was much too high up to be a butterfly garden, but he could still make a flower garden. When he was tested in school for his type of magic, he found that he didn't need a wand to do magic- so he knew he had to be careful. He had Spiritual Magic like his father, and this was ultimately what killed his mother. He knew that he would never use magic again because of this traumatic moment. From time to time he unknowingly used his magic by wishing that his plants would be healthy and beautiful to honor his mother. His garden is a spectacle of the city and visitors often ask if they can see it. He happily lets others view his garden and even take certain flowers from it, and he knows that his mother would be proud if she saw this. He loves his garden and treats it like his family- and he has a feeling that someday he will open a gardening shop with all of the non-magical items you need to be able to grow a natural, non-magical garden.[835 words]
