longneck's name: Petunia
short story on why her skull and spine changed colours:
Petunia was your everyday Longneck. She liked making leaf crafts, playing with sticks, and chirping or squeaking whenever she had the chance. She liked splashing around in puddles the most though. One day while making her daily trip in search of leaves she stumbled across a puddle! She was so excited, as it hadn’t rained in a while, so she was thrilled to see such a site!
But this puddle was no ordinary puddle. It seemed to shimmer when the sun hit it in a way that she couldn’t explain. She watched it for a moment, turning her head in confusion. Maybe this wasn’t a water puddle?
She tapped her foot on the puddles surface. It seemed thicker than water. This only caused more confusion for the creature! She did not know what the substance was.
Ultimately, she decided that it was best to just avoid the puddle as a whole. Splashing around in mystery liquids wasn’t her favorite, splashing in rain puddles was!
Petunia waddled away to search for more leaves, and once she had found enough to get her through the day she waddled back home.
When she got to the little rock circle her herd had made a home, they all squeaked in distress! What had happened to Petunia?!
Her fur was moving around on its own, wiggling in a weird shaky fashion. The paw she had dipped in the puddle was glowing!
Oh this could not be good, not good at all.
The Longnecks continued to squeak in alarm. They did not know how to handle this.
As they sat there staring at her, something else began to happen.
The pieces of fur that were moving began to change colors to a purplish color. This scared the Longnecks even more. They began to shake and huddle together, like one might on a cold winter day.
Eventually night came, and the Longnecks relaxed a big. Petunia’s fur had stopped moving, her paw had stopped glowing, but her now purple hair seemed to stay the same as before.
They made sure that they slept far away from Petunia that night.
When they woke up in the morning, Petunia’s skull was the same color as her patches!
Poor Petunia, her little herd just couldn’t wrap their minds around this bizarre change and for the next few days they left her alone on the outside of the rock circle.
They wouldn’t even eat the leaves she brought back, as they were scared the same thing would happen to them!
A few weeks later Petunia left her herd and found a new herd! A herd of rare Longnecks who accepted her different coloring because theirs was the same way!
