......
A vainful knight in armor,
Who stood shining metal-clad,
Gripped a weapon from his mother,
And a horse passed from his dad.
He slowly approached the great tower,
And although the setting was of dawn,
Surely someone lay awake at this hour,
For the highest chamber’s light was on!
Our greedy hero dreamed only of pay,
Before his path soon lay obscured.
Surely nothing could stand in his way,
Post gruesome journey he had endured?
Yet he gazed upon a reptilian beast,
Coughing puffs of fiery breath,
And covered in scales -to say the least-
Though he saw nothing but a pest.
And so the swift blade he soon swung,
With intent to slay dead the foul lizard,
Until out of the barracks she flung;
The princess exhaling smoke like a wizard!
Out the castle the fair lady darted with a wail,
Jumping in-between the rude knight and the creature.
She bared fangs and our hero -did ever he flail!-
Stricken with terror at the woman’s new feature.
The foul beast was her sister, she went on to explain,
Displaying she was dragon as well with her claws.
And to think- royal blood our dumb knight could have slain,
And only on account of reptilian flaws!
The knight stood perplexed, truly shocked by the notion,
That one could share traits with an over-sized serpent.
Perhaps the mutation was result of a potion,
Possessed through a trade with a dishonest merchant?
The man slipped a giggle and a chuckled apology,
Only further agitating the cold-blooded girl.
He joked that her family had rooted from a safari,
In turn causing the creature to irritably curl.
But the knight still stood guilty of countless cruel kills!
So the princess banished the fool with the help of her kin.
He fled from the scene and took off for the hills,
Never to be seen by from the dragons again.
