Second Chance Shelter wrote: Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

username: Dinolil1
name: Pran
meaning: Breath
gender: Male
age: 5.5
fear (min 50 words!): Chromophobia, the phobia of colours; bizarre, odd and quite frankly ridiculous! Pran has a fierce aversion to colours of any type; wherever they appear in the spectrum. The reason for is because Pran is deeply worried about the things they add to make things so pretty, the chemicals that lurk hidden in their food and toys; and whether they are toxic or not. Pran, parents being a former test product, feels as though this phobia grew out of habit; out of the anxiety that bloomed in him whenever he saw the dazzling colours being shoved before him.
collar: A simple black collar, plain and as fresh as the day it was made.
Personality: Although something about him appears arrogant, Pran is cheerful and friendly, willing to make time for others and is extremely emphatic. He's well-known for his generosity and humility, drawing many near with his loving nature. Unfortunately, Pran can be far too chatty for the liking of others and ends up being so talkative that hardly anyone gets a word in edgewise. He can also be quite obnoxious and this is equally annoying for many. He is outgoing and an extrovert for sure, brave and courageous when facing adventures and is a cheerful tom through and through. Pran, however, can be very clingy and is known to be very dependent.
History: Pran was born of two former test subjects, who'd thankfully retired from the horrible regime and settled down to have their own litter in some dusty old barn. The pair were named Crystal and Leon, and did they load all their strife on the mewling bundles of fur! Talk of cages, needles and chemicals was enough to scare Pran early on and for quite some time, the young tom remained anxious and afraid of the world; as though mad scientists lurked everywhere to instill pain onto him! His eldest sister, Snowflake, took many opportunities to wind him up and talk about colours that could hypnotize you, and for heaven's sake, could eat you! She was truly a proper savage in his life!

"Stay."
"I need you more than you think."

"Hi."

- "My name is Delilah but you can call me Della or Lilah for short."

- "I was born a female."

- "I'm 4 years old in human years but I'm really 35 in cat years!"

"My fear is being abandoned like I was countless times before.
I was breed from a pure and beautiful pedigree and high stature and class yet I've come so far to be fighting for my life in a dirty alley. I never really found the love that I deserved.
If you want to hear my story, then please, hear me out.

Like I said previously. I was born into a very fancy and rich family and pedigree. My mother was a champion in various cat shows as well as my father, blue ribbon and gold medal winners. After careful thought out timing and prices, me and my brothers and sisters were born. Three girls (including me) and two boys. We were the greatest things that happened to both my mother and my mother's owner. We were little treasures. I spent most of my youngest days playing out in the courtyard of our large stone villa. It was such a beautiful site. To be very honest and sad to you, I don't even remember my mother's nor most of my siblings's names.

As we grew older, it was time for us to find homes. At first, I remember being devastated just like my siblings since our mother and her owner were our literal worlds. We weren't prepared to go but as the time drew closer, we were ready. I still remember being hesitant but I knew I wasn't going to be given away to just anybody. My mother's owner, a well-spoken and open-minded middle aged lady, got us all our papers, tested, vaccinated, trained and everything in between. She wanted us to make a name for her and my mother and me and my brothers and sisters were going to uphold it. It was my older and bigger brother that went to his first home...I think his name was Arthur maybe? Well, it started with him and the last one to leave was me. I was terrified but I do remember my mother licking and comforting me and saying that I should be brave about going to a new home.

I was first brought by a old, wrinkly looking lady that had two mushed-face cats (I found out they were Persian cats) and a little white and brown papillon named Majesty. Surprisingly, me and Majesty got along well unlike the two snob-nosed sister, named Ella and Elsa, who thought they were better than everything else in the world. I guess the only reason I got along with Majesty, besides her outstanding and lovely personality, was that she was no bigger than me and didn't two over head like plenty of other dogs I've seen before. I spent a good year of my life living Majesty and her owners as well as the Persian cats. Well, one day that all changed when I got resold to someone else. It was so sudden and frightening that I was being ripped away from my only known friend. I yowled and made as much ruckus as I could as I was put in a cat carrier and Majesty barked and made as much noise to try and stop our owner. But all cries were ignored.

I next found myself shipped off to some distant area in the suburbs. My new owner was a man who wanted to give me as a gift to his children. This new place was an ever-flowing river of experiences. They had five young ones between the ages of 16-5 that were always active as well as one that couldn't walk yet but crawled instead. It wasn't as fancy and nice as my two previous homes but this was going to be a nice way for me to get to no more about these human kittens. Their oldest girl, who was 16, and the mother was very nice and gentle with me. The younger ones were a bit of a wild ride but the oldest son, who was 10, got to learn to be gentle with me. Even though their household was a very interesting experience, I just couldn't handle all the noise and excitements. I knew I really couldn't stay when they brought home a dog.

It was a some sort of husky mutt-mix that they 'lovingly' named Bruce. He wasn't like my old friend Majesty. He looked like a bulky skyscraper and he wanted my neck as son as we set eyes on each other. I know the family was only trying to help and make us friends but the foul canine always tried snapping at me and I wasn't going to tolerate being disrespected by the ugly mutt. I honestly hoped everyday that they were looking for a new owner for me but I was always greeted with the, pulling hands of small children and the foul, hot breaths of an angry kenneled dog. After one day when Bruce broke out of his cage unsupervised and tried to get at me sitting on the kitchen counter, I knew I had to run away. I made my great escape the day when one of the younger children left the front door open. I ran like Bruce was at my heels.

I lived with the family for a year and a quarter. I wandered the streets for a bit but being a street cat was something I couldn't do. The first two nights, I dismissed my growing hunger but afterwards, I ate whatever was edible worthy. The first week of being homeless, I was nearly hit by six cars and chased by three dogs. I remember coming upon a house with a young man who was nice enough to put some water and a bit of canned tuna out for me all the while an older woman yelled at him, saying it'll cause to call over my friends and a bunch of cats would be on their porch. Funny thing was, I didn't have no friends. The winter was setting in a spent many nights sleeping by a close heat source and nearly getting killed by cars since I slept underneath them for warmth.

Fast forward about four months and I've seen Death's doorstep more than 100 times and my skin was starting to cling to my ribs. I had recently met a gang of feral cats that threatened me and my life but a burly and scarred ginger tom with a missing eye came to my rescue. He took me under his protective wing and taught how I should find an easy meal and how to hunt small animals. I mused him with my tales of what he called 'kitty stories' and he awed me with stars of how he gained his scars. His name was Roc and that was it. I stayed by his side for a while until one day the unthinkable happened. Roc was hit and killed by a car and just like that, I had no one but myself to fend for and no one to amuse or be amused with. I left that part of town when the feral cats got to violent for me.

I spent another month doing my best to survive on the streets and used all the survival tips Roc gave me. I eventually found myself in a neighborhood full of large houses. It was a sweet haven full of food that I could scavenge from. Most houses had their trash hidden away or out of reach but I was blessed with easy to reach ones. I spent a week hanging around the neighborhood until I came upon this one house. In it sat I cat that was near identical to me. Her fur was much more healthier and brighter than mines while my fur was matted in areas and filthy. Even though we shared the same blue icy eyes, her's seemed to be more full of life.
I remember when we made eye contact and I felt sick to my stomach since I was this ugly street cat sitting by her back door.

I turned to leave but the elegant she-cat walked through the crack in the door and greeted me. After a brief chat, I was astonished to find out that she was one of my sisters! Her name was Colette and she was pregnant with her first litter of kittens. I expressed my up-most joy pg meeting her again and congratulated her for her upcoming litter. For a while, I hang out with my sister and she helped bring me food and water. Oh, was it a joy! I stayed in her owner's backyard until she sadly informed me that her owners called the animal shelter and they were coming to pick me up soon. Again, I was devastated and felt abandoned but I wished her the best life possible and wished her kittens to grow up healthy and strong.

I decided that it was time for me to stop fighting and accept my fate. I saw them pull up to the house and march to the back and I sat patiently for them. They took me away from my sister and brought me to this new strange place. They did all kinds of tests and whatnot to me and they gave me my first bath in months. I hated taking baths when I was a kitten but now, I LOVED the feeling of the clean water against my fur and I didn't fight back. My name wasn't Delilah at first (I really don't remember my former name)
but the kind people at the shelter said it was an elegant name for an elegant cat like me.

I appreciate their kindness deeply and I hope they don't leave me and I really hope my new owner doesn't leave me either."

o sweet chili cheese this is the most word I've ever typed out for any sort of adopt comp :0

name: Anubis
gender: Female
age: 4
personality: Anubis is a quiet and solitary cat who enjoys silence. She is not an easy cat to get to know since she keeps her thoughts to herself. She believes that if she avoids contact with others, there will be nobody to lose. If you can manage to break her walls, Anubis a very kind and wise cat. She will give advice to those who need it and is a sucker for small kittens, even when they are constantly harassing her. Also surprising is her good sense of humor. Anubis picks up jokes from her owner and can often be heard telling and laughing at them by herself. Having a good joke handy is a sure way to win her favor.
fear (min 50 words!): Anubis has a fear of water, but not for the reason most might think. [obvi wip]

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

I fell in love with this beautiful cat! (I thought I'd try to do it from her perspective.)

username: lilpupin
name: The name's Mailie (May-lee)
gender: oh dear, couldn't you tell? I'm a female.
age: I've heard you shouldn't ask a lady her age, but I'm four.
fear (min 50 words!):
You know that feeling that you get when you're all alone in a room, and you hear something? Well, I've certainly never felt that way when I hear such a noise when I'm alone, but I've heard enough complaints from you humans to assume it would be a good comparison. Let's just say - and this is going to sound ridiculous - that I'm more for small talk. And when I say small talk I mean small words. I have two favorite words in the english dictionary, I and a. Want to know why? BECAUSE, LONG WORDS SCARE THE SENSE OUT OF ME! Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, I hope you understand how I feel, let me explain why. Actually, I'll have to back up for a moment. As you can see I've said a couple of words so far that could be described as long. Moment, actually, because: these may seem long. But not as long as others. Let me name a few, but with ought actually, well, naming them. (You see, I may scare myself too much and hide away, never to be seen or heard from again.) The -tologies, to start off. Now those are long words. *shivers* I mean just think about it! Those words are practically bigger than me! Oh, and I can't even begin to explain how I feel about that "Mary Poppins" Movie. Ugh, that terrifyingly long word in there, you know what I'm talking about. How dare they even consider putting that in the movie! (That was actually the reason my first owner gave me up, I ran up the curtains when that word was said and shredded them.) Now the reason they're so terrifying is- Oh, never mind. I can see that look on your face. You're thinking, how could a girl ever be frightened by such a silly thing! Well, humph! Fine, I won't try to explain! Just listen then. I just have one more thing to speak of and then you're free. Have you ever heard of or looked up what the "fear of long words" are called? Why, it's a cruel joke! Go ahead, look it up. No- NO! DO NOT SAY THAT DREADED WORD! Oh, what's that? You can't even pronounce it? Well, then I'll guess I'll be fine.

collar: a thin light blue collar with white swirls
